131 Players Reach Free Agency

By Maury Ahram | November 6, 2022 at 9:13am CDT

As announced by the MLB Players Association, 131 MLB players have officially reached free agency this morning. This list, including names like Aaron Judge, Jose Abreu, and Edwin Diaz, excludes players such as Jacob deGrom and Carlos Correa, who have until November 10th to decide on their opt-out. The Dodgers lead the list with ten free agents, headlined by starter Clayton Kershaw, while the Mets and the Yankees each have nine free agents. Conversely, both the Diamondbacks and the Marlins have no free-agent decisions released today.

Broken down in Mark Polishuk’s 2022-23 Offseason Preview, all eligible free players can officially file for free agency today. However, players who file for free agency are only able to negotiate with their current team. Before the free agent market officially opens on November 10th, teams and players must make decisions regarding club options, opt-outs, mutual options, and qualifying offers. The trade market also re-opens opens today.

A complete list of 2022-23 MLB Free Agents can be found here.

I read it the same way but then I see it says “reach” not “elect”. Today is the day and they have reached the point where they have the opportunity to “elect”.

A large portion will show up Monday.

Sorry Sox fan but Abreu is gone. Heck, there is a better chance that the Cubs sign him. Sox have Vaughn pegged at 1st base next season.

Sox fans need to put sentimentality aside and think logically. There is no room on the roster for Abreu, Eloy, Vaughn, and the other 1B/DH types on the roster right now. After the last three fruitless years. Sox fans should be ready for a roster “facelift”. Frankly, I’m sick of watching this team as constructed.

      My wishlist for the Sox:

      1) Acquire Judge AND Correa

      2) Move Tim Anderson to 2B

      3) Slot Vaughn in at 1B

      4) Eloy at DH

      5) Trade some combination of Moncada and the top 10 prospects for an assortment of mid players who can fill in everyday, including a sure-handed 3B, an everyday catcher and extra OF.

They were given the gift of Tony LaRussa and still finished .500. If they failed to win under his guidance, tutelage, and expertise, they have zero chance. Without KC, they are rightfully cellar dwellers.

I don’t think Barbara Eden can get you one of 1).

I think the Sox are going to do a lot of running it back minus Abreu. Moncada has no trade value with the $40 million+ owed too him and they need to keep Montgomery and Colas. Plus, trades aren’t Hahn’s strong suit. He’s only made one that’s working out for them right now.

Better hope for a couple Cueto-like minor league deals and a lot of bounce back.

I see Verlander going to Atlanta. They have a real good team already, and they could use a big arm to separate themselves from everyone else. He’s from NC, he obviously wants to win if he’s going to keep playing into his 40s, and Atlanta doesn’t like doing long-term deals, so it’s a great fit. I don’t see deGrom being a better investment than Verlander, even with the age difference. deGrom seems like a ticking time bomb of injuries. Every start, you have to hold your breath that he doesn’t break.

There’s literally no difference between AL and NL anymore. There’s no more unbalanced schedule, and the DH exists in both leagues. Why would he care?

Judge stays. Diaz stays. Kershaw stays. deGrom heads to Texas. Correa to the Cubs. Abreu goes somewhere random like the Twins or Marlins. You’re welcome.

How about Abreu to the Astros to replace Yuli and Mancini? He can Share 1B/DH with Alvarez and be on a contender. They don’t like long term deals, which he wouldn’t need

I see Abreu going to the Marlins. They want a big bat without having to pay Judge-level of money and Abreu can’t ask that much due to his age. Plus there is big Cuban community in Miami…..

If we can eat Rendon’s contract there is a chance. If he is healthy he can be a lot better than JD. Yankees have the deepest pockets in baseball, it’s time to start putting that to use.

I see that the “complete” list doesn’t include Michael Conforto… Also, I believe Chris Bassitt and the Mets have a $19M mutual option with a $150K buyout. That option’s lower than the QO, so he’d certainly decline it and take the small buyout regardless of whether he accepts the QO. I’d hope he would but he’ll probably test the market.

I think with Canario getting hurt, first base will be less of a priority for the Cubs (move Canario to the 60 man and put Mervis on).

I’m not sure if they attack the top tier of the short stop market… it will be interesting. I think they will with Howard missing all the year and Hernandez not developing as well as they hoped (yes still young but lots of concern).

I’d love to see the Cubs get Bellinger if he is non-tendered. One year deal, gives us insurance for Davis and again, with Canario being out adds to the need.

I think the Cubs, again with Mervis, should target JD Martinez to DH… again, a guy who can be had on a one year deal… wouldn’t hate Abreu on a two year deal here instead.

Verlander 1/45mil… is going to be hard for most teams to take on.. (most contending teams).. I think he makes sense for Phillies or Mets tbh… and I hate that as a Padres fan.. but SDP probably landing Senga as it looks for more of a 5yr add to its rotarion. SEATTLE makes a ton of sense for Verlander as well

As a Padre fan I agree that Verlander at 1/45 is a hard no. 1/30 – I’d go there.

Need to keep Suarez and Martinez more than we need a 1 year hope he stays healthy and performs another year and cost a lot type of guy.

Give me a Heaney/Anderson/Bundy – a few more options, for my 4/5 spot.

I think JV re-signs with the Stros for 2 years $42M/yr. He’s won 2 Cy Young’s, 2 WS’s with the Stros and has a tight relationship with Jim Crane. Plus no state taxes in Texas and at latter stages of his career the high chance to go to additional WS is what will count ( along with the $$$). The Stros have 7 starters including the kid Hunter Brown so if they re-sign JV it allows them to deal a starter like Garcia or Urquidy for another bat ( probably OF or 1B).

If Kate tells him that she wants to move out to LA for advancing her career, then JV will go to the Dodgers. Astros (still favorite) or Dodgers for JV, I think. JV isn’t Tom Brady. He will listen to his wife.
