MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred announced today that the Texas Rangers will host the 2024 All-Star festivities. The 94th “midsummer classic” will be held July 16th of that year.
This will be the second time the Rangers have played host to the game, though it will be the first at Globe Life Field, which opened in 2020. The only other time the club hosted was in 1995, at the Ballpark in Arlington.
“Major League Baseball is pleased to award the 2024 All-Star Game to the Rangers and the Cities of Arlington and Fort Worth, which presented a robust bid for All-Star Week,” Manfred says in the statement. “The Rangers stepped up under difficult circumstances and Globe Life Field served as terrific host for the 2020 Postseason, including the World Series. We are excited to once again feature Baseball’s newest ballpark on a global stage next summer.”
The next two All-Star games will be hosted by AL West teams, since the Seattle Mariners are hosting the 2023 contest. The 2025 host has not yet been announced, but 2026 will be in Philadelphia to coincide with the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Should have gone to Atlanta
Milwaukee-2208
No. Manfred won’t like Trump showing up doing the chop again lol
OIC2021
Especially since there were over 2 Miilion early votes in the Georgia mid-term . Manfred made it political and it’s an incontrovertible fact there was no voter suppression. Such a shame.
mj-2
No thanks. They had their chance and move it. We decided to force them to hand us a WS trophy in Atlanta that year instead.
Lanidrac
Hopefully they’ll get it in 2025, but yeah it would’ve made a lot more sense for Atlanta to get the 2024 game and Arlington waiting their turn until 2025 while also continuing the usual (although not always) pattern of switching leagues each year.
Curly Was The Smart Stooge
May I remind everyone, when Manfred took the AS game away from Atl., when Atl. won it all, Manfred disappeared from the Atl. WS award podium in record time, what a weasel…
Can’t stand his name no matter what he does…he’s weak…
Jgwi2az
How about Atlanta
Halo11Fan
Exactly, Atlanta needs to get the game back.
Georgia did nothing wrong. This was a political lie hack attack, both parties do it, and the commissioner should have ignored it.
VonPurpleHayes
beautiful stadium
etex211
Don’t worry, Manfred will find some whack job political reason to pull it from the Rangers.
RunDMC
I mean, it’s Texas. You don’t have to delve too deep to see the serious abuse of powers Abbott has going on. But sure, no income taxes!
etex211
Other than a serious lapse of judgement that put a bunch of bars and restaurants out of business during the covid hysteria, Abbott has done a fine job as governor.
bn3411
This is the funniest thing I have ever read.
RunDMC
Has the All-Star Game ever been removed for anything other than natural disaster, cancellation due to Covid/lockout?
If you’re going to cancel it, at least provide steps to give the city a chance at another one. Does that mean the city won’t get another All-Star Game?
It also opens a pandora’s box that does a city not have to have restrictive voting laws to be considered?
Whether you like it or not, MLB will always be aligned with politics (i.e. Jackie Robinson was more than a baseball player, etc.) — but it’s Manfred’s lack of communication, follow-up that deems on an abuse of power lacking no resolve than it does as providing an instrument for change.
Lanidrac
Are you calling World War II a natural disaster?
louwhitakerisahofer
It was a disaster, naturally.
Halo11Fan
The commissioner of baseball should not be subject to political partisanship,
Baseball should stay out of politics.
etex211
Halo, that’s exactly the reason I’ve ditched most pro sports. I’m still hanging on to both MLB and Nascar, even both keep trying to run me off.
JeffreyChungus
Same here man. There’s still a hint of sanity but both keep getting worse. If you like racing, check out Indycar or NHRA. Good entertainment and no politic talk from the people running it
etex211
I’ll be in the infield at TMS when the Indy cars return next April.
therock3823
The original commissioner of baseball was literally a federal judge. The Supreme Court gave baseball an antitrust exemption. Baseball has never and will never stay away from politics.
etex211
BTW Fletcher, I raced on dirt for 28 years. If you really like racing, look into a Flo Sports subscription. It’s money well spent. There are Late Models, Modifieds, and Midgets on there practically every night of the year. You also get every night of the Chili Bowl.

friend of mine years ago used to own a Busch series car. Would go to Daytona whenever he/his car ran and back then? Stay down trackside. It was wild times then.

It’s too bad they’ll probably have the lid closed during that game. Would be nice to have it open for the game.
EricTheBat
this will have some major repercussions on the trade market
theathlete
There’s a great ballpark in Baltimore that hasn’t hosted the game since 1993. Manfred should be over his hatred of the Orioles since the MASN thing has been resolved. I don’t know if the Orioles have submitted requests to host it but 2024 would’ve probably been a really good year for them to host, hopefully it goes to them in 2025 when their team should be pretty good.
ilikebaseball 2
Cubs haven’t hosted since ’90 from one drought to the next.
AmericanRedneck
Current Baltimore resident here…have you been to Baltimore recently?! Hard pass.
God Help Us All
MLB Owes Atlanta
Four4fore
That would require Manfred admitting he was wrong, so no.

Good for Arlington.

Giving the All-Star game to any city in the state of Texas is a slap in the face to the victims of Uvalde and their families!
etex211
You’re blaming the entire state of Texas for the actions of one mentally deranged kid?
sascoach2003
I would actually think that it would be an awesome way to honor those victims. I suppose it’s like everything, though, perspective.
luca brasi
Major league baseball, giving the All-Star game to any city in Texas is a slap in the face to the victims of the Uvalde shooting and their families. Now that moron Abbet can’t say baseball has no problems with us giving assault rifles to 18-year-old morons.
Halo11Fan
You’re joking… right Luca. I can only hope so. Because no one is that insane.
Well, I hope no one is that insane.
sascoach2003
It’s a baseball site. Regardless of how you feel about it politically, it is going to happen. You have the option to not watch the game. Save the political talk for political forums, we discuss baseball here. Thanks. Have a great day!
AmericanRedneck

Tampa needs to host an All Star game. The stadium might be half full for that event.
Rsox
Honestly, MLB has been punishing the Rays fan base since their inception by denying the team the opportunity to host an All Star Game. The stadium may suck but is the game for the stadium or the fans?
Lanidrac
MLB has been punishing itself ever since they put not just one but two MLB teams in Florida, where most of the population consists of senior citizens (most of them on fixed incomes), poor immigrants, and people who don’t live there during most of baseball season.
citizen
ugh no. they already had the bubble playoffs in texas.
Atlanta.
BOSsports21
Is my math wrong, or is the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 2026, not 2025?
Lanidrac
Yeah, and 2026 is when they’re getting the All-Star Game in Philly, while 2025 is TBD.
Bledcam
All politics and Atlanta aside, I’m happy to see the hometown team get an All-Star game. I’ll pick up some merch for once and may even make the trip down there for the game. Hopefully, Atlanta gets one soon, politics aside, the city and fans deserve one.
sliderwithcheeze
I’ll host 2025 in my back yard
Perksy
I miss the previous stadium, ballpark in Arlington. Much nicer on the outside and inside. That one look like a true baseball stadium.
SocoComfort
Yea the new stadium looks very generic while the old one had character. Also that new stadium in Miami kind of stinks especially since Jeter took some of the cooler unique aspects away.
etex211
I went to three games in the new park in 2021. I never got the same major league feel I got in the old park. I didn’t go to any games this year. I made the decision that the new park just doesn’t deliver the the proper bang for buck for me.
Perksy
That’s good to know. I don’t why they couldn’t just renovate the old one. Like you both said above it had character and a special ballpark feel to it. They even used it for that movie the rookie.
oz10
You know they used it for the movie the Rookie because that is the actual stadium that it happened in, right?
oz10
I don’t miss the heat though. The new park is great stadium once you are in your seat and watching the game. it lacks any appeal away from the actual viewing and playing surface.
AmericanRedneck
Hopefully I can go to this game, unlike having the rug pulled out in the ATL, I canceled my MLB.tv after that bonehead move. I pray they don’t make it political again, people watch sports to get away from that nonsense. PLAY BALL! ATL should get a ASG ASAP, IMHO.
biffpocoroba
Bochy stability.
jacl
It’s about time. I went to the one in 1995 and will also go to this one. I do think All star games should be played outdoors though.
Central Valley
Complete and total bullsh!t that Atlanta got screwed out of the All Star Game. I’m not even a Braves fan either.
brucenewton
Jays should host in ‘25.
mjones650
For all these comments about “get baseball out of politics”…it already is political. For example, a stadium announcer saying “please rise and remove your caps as we honor America” is political. If someone chooses not to do so is also political, but because it is disrupting a dominant narrative, it is the only choice people recognize as political. And there is precedent for moving the game. The NFL did this to AZ for the 1993 Super Bowl, moving it because they were one of the last states that refused to honor Dr. King’s birthday as a holiday. Voters passed legislation honoring it and they were awarded the game in ’96.
Georgia has major issues right now. The Voting Rights Act was gutted by the supreme court and states like GA have been using that to create more barriers to voting. It made sense to bring awareness to that issue by moving the venue.
Sports and politics have always been intertwined and it’s important to have these platforms as a way for thoughtful discussion.
