Brewers Reinstate Wade Miley, Jesse Winker From Injured List; Designate Jon Singleton

By Mark Polishuk | June 17, 2023 at 11:46am CDT

The Brewers announced four roster moves, including the activation of both Wade Miley and Jesse Winker from the injured list.  Miley was placed on the 15-day IL due to a lat strain on May 17, while Winker has been on the 10-day IL since May 28 due to a cervical strain.  To create space on the active roster, the Brewers optioned right-hander Tyson Miller to Triple-A and designated first baseman Jon Singleton for assignment.

Miley inked a one-year deal worth $4.5MM in guaranteed money to come to Milwaukee during the offseason, and the veteran southpaw has delivered a 3.67 ERA over 41 2/3 innings.  Miley’s 40.4% grounder rate and 10.3% barrel rate are both significantly worse than in recent seasons, though it’s hard to yet make any big projections given the small sample size of innings.  The lefty has made up for those numbers with a borderline elite 5.3% walk rate, as well as his customary good work at limiting hard contact.

Miley will start today’s game against the Pirates, and his return brings some more relief to a Milwaukee rotation that has been hit hard with injuries.  Brandon Woodruff will still be out until at least the All-Star break and Aaron Ashby will miss all of the 2023 season due to shoulder surgery, but with Miley now back on the mound, the Brew Crew are at least a step closer to their initial first-choice rotation.  Adrian Houser will be shifted to the bullpen, leaving Miley, Corbin Burnes, Freddy Peralta, Colin Rea, and Julio Teheran as Milwaukee’s current rotation.

Winker was another offseason acquisition, picked up from the Mariners along with Abraham Toro in exchange for Kolten Wong.  The trade hasn’t worked out for either team to date, as Wong and Winker have each badly struggled with their new clubs.  Winker has looking to bounce back from a relatively disappointing 2022 campaign in Seattle, yet the 108 wRC+ he posted with the Mariners is far above the 60 wRC+ (off a .204/.315/.231 slash line) that Winker has delivered over his first 127 plate appearances in a Brewers uniform.  There’s still plenty of time for Winker to turn things around, as perhaps the three weeks on the IL both healed his neck problem and might serve as a fresh start to his 2023 season.

The Brewers selected Singleton’s contract from Triple-A earlier this month, and he hit only .103/.188/.138 over 32 PA.  While an underwhelming slash line, just making it back to the big leagues for the first time since 2015 marked a personal victory for Singleton, whose battle with marijuana addiction took him out of baseball entirely for three seasons until he launched a comeback in the Mexican League in 2021.  If Singleton clears DFA waivers and the Brewers outright him to Triple-A, Singleton can choose to become a free agent, since he has been outrighted off a 40-man roster in the past.

The good story of John comes to an end! I wonder how many Innings Miley can go. I doubt more than 3 -4. He did not Strech out much in The Minors. I also wonder how much more time we give Winker? He was horrible prior to his most recent injury. Solid ML career until Seattle and injuries!

Winker is the type of OF that Milwaukee always seems to have; a pull happy, one trick pony with horrible defense. His upside is a few walks a week.

Winker is the team’s DH. Maybe the Brewers can get a 600+OPS from the DH position that haven’t seen this year.

Singleton only played in 11 games in a platoon role. That’s hardly enough time to evaluate a player’s return to the major leagues.

Guy has come a long way from where he was. Honestly he may be more important to the Brewers at AAA mentoring the young players. He has really took to doing that with the young players. Talking to them about managing life in general. Been proud of him in what he has done in life.

Those are the scientists. Now that NORML has been publishing real studies that repudiate the propaganda the world has been fed for 100 years.
It’s absolutely and category NOT an addictive substance. Period.

Why should consequences be a factor? Weed was only made illegal as a racist agenda by Harry P. Anslinger. Not because of the facts about it.

And no one is unable to stop using it cold turkey at any time with no side effects. It’s a wholly non addictive substance and you’re just quoting right wing, religious, paranoid, fearful lies and propaganda.

          Because you’re an idiot.

How much of a connection is there? I’ve heard of temporary psychosis, but what is the approximate likelihood of a disease like that the result of doing cannabis on the regular?

Have you ever met a stoner that wasn’t paranoid? The link between Cannabis use and psychological disorders is fairly prevalent

And we’ve found the most moronic guy on the internet at last!!!

As a Master’s in Biology, who has studied psych and anthropology extensively, I can assure you that correlation does not equal causation.

Of course psych IS a wholly bogus field of study designed to oppress the lower classes and keep them in a slave state.

However, people who do have issues with the fascism that is ‘straight’ society TURN TO weed and other drugs to numb the pain of that.

If you’ve been following the ACTUAL RESEARCH (and not bogus, statist, far right wing university studies such as perpetrated by Stanford(), you’d know that this is the only drug anyone should ever put in their body in anything other than life threatening conditions (I’d use diabetes as an example, but cultured insulin is not a drug per se, as in chemical compound, but a natural substance encouraged to grow organically).

Weed users also have a whopping 25 IQ points on non users, who tend to be about 6 to 10 points BELOW the now normal average of 104. Virtually all are in or near the genius range with virtually none below that range.

          Like you.

ZERO connection. Correlation does not equal causation, one of the fundamental principles of both science and logic.

People who have issues with society, TURN to weed to cope.

The fact is they average 30 more points in IQ and see through the BS that is psychology and polite society and don’t want to fit into those fascist paradigms.

It’s also well substantiated that it shrinks tumors, resolves glaucoma, IMPROVES lung capacity, creativity, has NO addictive qualities and is also associated with more athleticism (and does not cause the laziness or lethargy once claimed: see: every rock musician who put out 20 albums and toured 250 days a year).

What you mentioned is the only thing and it’s unbelievably rare and seen in cases like that of Lee Perry (who simply smoked so much every day that temporary became permanent, but stopping for even a month would have resolved that).

It’s honestly better than any man made chemical–ALL toxins, with less than 1/100th of 1% of ever reaching a market–which aren’t designed so much as thrown at a wall to see what sticks (and most don’t even work, as seen by the revelation last year that depression drugs have always been wholly fraudulent because they knew all along that depression had no connection to serotonin).

But of course sports brings out the right wing, sanctimonious and religious types who want to demonize something not just safe, but WHOLLY beneficial, out of fear, superstition and an inability to understand science.

There is NONE. Schizophrenia is almost wholly genetic, with environmental factors such as homelessness contributing.

Weed DOES NOT cause anything. Like hard drugs or alcohol, it’s what people TURN to in order to cope.

And this particular drug happens to ameliorate symptoms of psychosis from this disorder and things like PTSD.

It’s the only good drug on earth (all pharms are poison and should NEVER be taken).

Trust me. Like most who have used it, I have 50 IQ points on you.

          And a Master’s in biology.
