Angels Reinstate Jose Suarez From Injured List

By Anthony Franco | September 11, 2023 at 6:17pm CDT

The Angels have activated starter José Suarez from the 60-day injured list, per a club announcement. Gerardo Reyes was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake in a corresponding transaction. The move brings the 40-man roster to capacity.

Suarez is back for the first time since early May. The 25-year-old southpaw has battled shoulder discomfort for the past few months. Even prior to the IL stint, he was having a disastrous start to the year. Suarez was tagged for a 9.62 ERA over six outings, striking out only 17.1% of opponents while walking over 12% of batters faced. It’s certainly not what the Angels had envisioned from a pitcher who allowed fewer than four earned runs per nine in each of the preceding two seasons.

From 2021-22, Suarez turned in 207 1/3 innings of 3.86 ERA ball. He posted nearly average strikeout and walk marks and generally looked the part of a stable #4/5 starter. The Angels were counting on the likes of Suarez, Patrick Sandoval and Reid Detmers to form a strong enough rotation to supplement their top-heavy lineup.

Obviously, the team’s hopes of competing have evaporated. There’s little benefit for the Angels in getting Suarez back for this season, but he’ll be able to make a few appearances going into the winter. He’ll be eligible for arbitration for the first time and is controllable via that process through the 2026 campaign.

Because this is what the team’s starting rotation needed.. another high ERA pitcher. I guess if his issues were his injury and he can get back to recent success, then that’s at least something..

Cue the Suarez injury by Sunday…

I saw Arte in West Hollywood and he refused to walk anywhere but under ladders while holding a black cat. Tough scene.

Nightengale says they will move Trout if he wants to be traded. How much money is Arte willing to send to increase the prospect package? That’s what will really matter in terms of return.

Imagine the haul the Angels could’ve got for Ohtani and Trout a few years ago.

It was Nightengale. Unless he is directly quoting Moreno from a press conference, just figure the opposite of what he said is what is actually true. So Trout will be an Angel for life.

I don’t assume anything anyone says is true or false. I’m not that foolish. I treat all these rumors the same, fun to think about but I don’t care what happens at the end of the day. I’m not even an angels fan. You can judge the likelihood, I’d rather consider the possibilities.

Too many years of reading Nightengale. Seldom is one of his rumors true so I just assume that unless what he said is verified by a couple other sources that he made it up just to get clicks.

Manfred. Trout never publicly said he wanted to be traded and that report has the same value if it came from me.

It’s pretty much worthless speculation. And some people wonder why I have an issue with reporters?

Although we don’t really know, the story about Trout most likely emanated from the team(Moreno), which suggests to me the Angels may want to rebuild and move on from Mike Trout.

Listening to Rojas, no such thing was said. If Trout wants to get traded, of course the Angels will consider it, that’s not exactly news.

Trout is such a fan favorite and a great revenue source for Arte. He will never trade him especially when attendance is down.

This whole site is speculation about MLB trades. Why do you guys even show up if you see speculation as worthless?

Because this site is based on data, and when it is speculation, they clearly say so.

But this was dumb speculation. If Trout wants out the Angels would consider trading him….duh!!!

          Based on what?

But yes, if Trout wants to go, the Angels would consider trading him.

          Again….duh.

No one is talking about it though.

I seriously doubt Trout will ever ask to be traded
Nor would Arte actually trade him.
It an article written to stir up interest. The reporter was doing his job. To gain viewership.
