MLB Owners Unanimously Approve Athletics’ Move To Las Vegas

By Steve Adams | November 16, 2023 at 8:22am CDT

Major League Baseball’s owners have unanimously voted to approve the Athletics’ move from Oakland to Las Vegas, tweets John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle. The approval was seen as something of a formality, with little — if any — opposition from the sport’s other owners anticipated.

The Athletics’ current lease at the Coliseum only runs through the end of the 2024 season, which leaves plenty of questions about where the club will play its home games in the interim. Among the potential scenarios that have been discussed are sharing the Giants’ Oracle Park, playing home games at their Triple-A stadium in Las Vegas, or temporarily extending the current lease. The current plan, while not yet final, could see them split their time between multiple sites, tweets Bob Nightengale of USA Today. The Athletics plan to build a $1.5 billion stadium with a capacity of 33,000 on the Las Vegas strip, at the site of the Tropicana Casino. That new home, however, is not expected to be ready until the start of the 2028 season.

With the valuation of the Athletics’ franchise slated to rise following the move, Nightengale further reports that the remaining owners included a provision with their vote that team owner John Fisher would be taxed “heavily” on any sale if he ultimately strives to sell the club for an immediate profit. The magnitude of the tax isn’t clear, nor is the length of time for which he’ll need to retain ownership of the team before he is exempt from said taxation. In such an event, the amount that he’s taxed would be divided among the other 29 franchises.

It’s the first relocation of any Major League team since the Expos moved from Montreal to Washington D.C. in 2005 (and, of course, became the Washington Nationals). The move from Oakland to Vegas, while still not yet 100% official — hurdles remain to be cleared with the funding and construction of the new facility — will bring a 55-year run in Oakland to an end and leave Northern California as the sole territory of the cross-bay Giants.

The Athletics’ stadium outlook and potential relocation bid has been an ongoing source of drama over the past decade-plus, as the A’s have sought a move from their dilapidated environs in the Coliseum. Previous efforts to move to San Jose were protested by the Giants, claiming that to be an infringement on their territory. The A’s had similarly explored new facilities at various spots around the city, including a new stadium at the current site and, most recently, a new waterfront development in Oakland’s Howard Terminal neighborhood.

Whether those efforts were explored in good faith is debatable; Oakland mayor Sheng Thao has vocally disputed assertions from both Fisher and MLB commissioner that the Howard Terminal scenario was pursued to its fullest extent — instead contending that Fisher never had interest in remaining in Oakland and had been intent on a Vegas move all along.

Regardless, at this point in the process it’s largely a moot point. The move to Oakland is overwhelmingly likely at this point, marking the third recent loss of a major sports franchise for the city of Oakland, which has seen the NBA’s Warriors move across the bay to San Francisco and the NFL’s Raiders move to Las Vegas. The city of Las Vegas, meanwhile, has seen an influx of professional sports teams in recent years. In addition to the Raiders and the likely move of the Athletics, the NHL’s Golden Knights expansion franchise joined the league in 2017.

Heading into the 2024 season, A’s fans will be in an odd position — knowing full well that the relocation they’ve dreaded now looms and facing limited opportunities to cheer on the club they’ve followed for more than five decades (their entire lives, in many instances). At the same time, many will be loath to offer their money to further support an ownership group by whom they understandably feel jilted and betrayed. Beyond that, the team made little effort to field anything resembling a competitive product in recent years, tearing down the core of a team that went 316-230 from 2018-21 and made the playoffs on three straight occasions — including consecutive 97-win campaigns in 2018-19.

That slate of trades hasn’t produced any meaningful level of talent, and payroll has remained near the bottom of the league. Last year’s A’s flirted with a pace for the worst record in MLB history for the season’s first few months, and there’s no indication that ownership will approve any pushes to remedy the situation by allotting more resources to its baseball operations staff this offseason. It’s a bleak time for the Oakland faithful, as the book on their stay in the Bay Area is now on the cusp of closing with an unsatisfying and tumultuous final chapter.

A team should be in vegas. But new wave of expansion teams.

      Not this way.

Hopefully Oakland gets an expansion team.

Yeah Oakland definitely should get an expansion team since they didn’t support a legacy team, they should get a second chance with a brand new team. **end sarcastic remark**
Oakland is a dump, ownership is a joke. They should have demanded new ownership, then approved a move.

Ownership turned the Coliseum and attendance into a joke. Fans supported their team under the Haas ownership when they spent to obtain players. Fan base supports its team. Fisher drove the franchise into the ground to gain support for a move. Oakland raised close to 1B in public funding that is much more than the contested 395M Vegas raised. This move is all on ownership not the fan base. Moving from a larger market to a much smaller one makes no sense.

Would you support the athletics after all they done under the current ownership? Hint: youd be stupid to do so.

Yeah its the fans fault Oakland has jettisoned Josh Donaldson, Matt Olson, Matt Chapman, and other franchise icons through the years opting to rebuild instead of paying people.

Its the fans fault ownership spends as little as possible in evdry facet of the game. Extensions, scouting, free agency, etc.

New team in oakland = new ownership group.

Any expansion teams with the cities they would play in will be revenue sharing receiving beggars. They simply don’t have large enough markets. Except, maybe, Montreal. But I doubt MLB wants to go back there.

This. Lived there for almost a decade and the City took them for granted and never supported the team economically and they played in the absolutely worst stadium in America. It was literally a giant urinal. Community support was never great either. Oakland does NOT deserve another team until it can show it will both support it as a fanbase and economically.

@I.M insane, can’t speak to Baltimore as I don’t travel to the East coast. But Seattle is far from a toilet. It has its problems like all major cities but the per capital income is among the highest in the nation, there is quite a bit of corporate sponsorship available and the population in the city and the metro area continues to grow. Additionally the tv and radio markets extend into Oregon and the North western state that are growing rapidly. It’s a market MLB needs to be in and other sports leagues are figuring that out as well with hockey expanding there and the NBA likely to soon.

          1. Mlb knows we’re largely sheep and most fans that are left will become Giants Fans especially those in Sacramento and the east/north bay areas , and even if they do not there we’re not that many at this point to lose.

2.locals in Las Vegas love local products as much possibly more than other areas of the country. A product that is uniquely Vegas always does well there. That’s why the NHL team has done so well ( haven’t looked at how the raiders have done out of spite for mark Davis) but baseball in particular is a regionally supported sport, I suspect it will do very well in Las Vegas especially if there is any on field success at all

As someone that is totally not in the loop (I live in Atlanta) it seems as though Oakland has been trying to build a new stadium for the A’s for 20 years. For whatever reason it wasn’t accomplished. Of course the mlb owners are gonna vote to relocate. Both the Athletics and Rays situations need to be figured out so there can be expansion. I just know it’s time for it to be resolved. Actually should’ve been a long time ago. Also as a bystander, city of Oakland doesn’t look good with losing the Warriors, Raiders and now A’s. I tend to be siding with the franchises.

This is how I know that you’re one of those “fans” that never go to games. They’ve been in the playoffs 6 of the past 12 years, and that is competitive.

Funny stuff. I don’t remember all those massive fan turnouts during the Charlie O owned years when Oakland was winning the WS.. finishing in 1st etc.. just about ever year from like ’70-’75. Oakland fans did the oppo and avoided the same stadium (Colosseum) while Charlie O’s mule was taking a dump around the playing field.

The one constant here is the Oakland Coliseum which I will once again state unequivocally is the WORST major pro stadium in all of America.. It’s a giant urinal. Anyone who states otherwise has not been there. The Giants ballpark was a Taj Mahal compared to that dump and drew non-baseball fans to the stadium. I had no problems getting the entire family to agree to go to Giants game regularly and most of them didn’t even like baseball and we lived in the East Bay. None of use were even Giants fans either.

Why shouldn’t; they? The majority of pro sports teams get financial help from the city at one time or another. Why? Because it’s good for the city and is good for employment and business. Oakland officials never got that message…

I agree that the owners/billionaires should fund their own projects. However, in this situation from the Oakland side, it is liberal politics that prevent(ed) the growth of the city and team. Come to Oakland and you will see. 3 consecutive Oakland mayors were asking fisher and/or Wolff to build housing for the homeless and 20% of the real estate deal to also include 20% low-income housing in this venture. Facts. no pre-conceived notion here buddy. a lot of guilty parties, Oakland libs are partly to blame. Dont get me wrong though, screw fisher, all the owners, kaval and billy bean too.

Those are complete lies and BS based on bad information presented in some of the biased, paid media serving the interests of MLB, John Fisher and Las Vegas interests.

MLB Commissioners Selig and Manfred and John Fisher created these problems for the Oakland A’s..

Multiple, acceptable New stadium deals were presented for the SF Bay Area and Oakland including: San Jose, Santa Clara County, Oakland, Howard Terminal by the Bay, even the Oakland Coliseum parking lot where a new stadium was to be built in the parking lot and the old stadium was to be torn down for parking.

Many of those proposed deals were PRIVATELY FINANCED BY LOCAL BILLIONAIRES IN SF BAY AREA.

MLB DOES NOT WANT PRIVATELY FINANCED VENUES SINCE IT EXPOSES THEIR TAXPAYERS SUBSIDIZED STADIUM SCAM THAT HAS BEEN RUNNING FOR DECADES.
IF AN OWNER CAN AFFORD TO BUY AN MLB TEAM, THEN HE/SHE CAN AFFORD TO PUT UP AND PAY FOR THEIR OWN NEW STADIUM.

IF AN OWNER IS TOO CASH AND/OR CREDIT POOR, THEN HE/SHE IS NOT QUALIFIED TO OWN A MAJOR LEAGUE TEAM
          PERIOD!!!!

SELIG, MANFRED, FISHER TURNED THEM ALL DOWN EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE MUCH BETTER THAN WHAT THEY SETTLED FOR IN LAS VEGAS WITH ITS SMALL LOT ON THE STRIP.

          First, your impression is incorrect.

          1) The Warriors stayed in the SF Bay Area.
Owner Joe Lacob built a New privately funded state of the art arena
for the Warriors in Downtown San Francisco.
The Warriors started in San Francisco.

Lacob built the Warriors into a dynasty with multiple championships.
Lacob offered to buy the A’s and do the same for the A’s.
:Lacob had a standing offer to buy the A’s for 10 years?!
Fisher and MLB Commissioners SABOTAGED OFFER FOR LACOB

          2) Raiders had other options in the SF Bay Area
Raiders were offered a “shared stadium” with the 49ers in Santa Clara in the Silicon Valley.
          Mark Davis turned it down.
The Raiders would be selling out in Santa Clara and making a lot more money than they make in LV
So, it was fault of Mark Davis and the Raiders.

          3) A’s Multiple Groups approached the A’s and MLB to buy the team, build a new stadium in the SF Bay Area.
Selig, Manfred, Fisher and the Giants sabotaged multiple viable deals for the A;’s in the SF Bay Area.

The A’s situation was created by MLB and John Fisher.
Former owner Walter Haas Jr(Levis) was breaking attendance records in the Oakland Coliseum where the A’s had 56K+fans for a few of their playoff games.
MLB AND FISHER ARE LYING TO THE MEDIA.

He should have hired some marketing whizzes and an expert negotiate more lucrative radio and TV deals.

Finley and the A’s were new to that market at the time.

          FALSE

Fisher is a Republican who donates to Republican candidates and causes.

You know the kind who was born on 3rd base and thought he hit a triple.

Fisher is a mooch who relies on “corporate welfare” from the fans
and he even mooches on his fellow owners relying on revenue sharing in the 6th largest TV market in the country.

Fisher demanded a 12 billion dollar project @ the Howard Terminal
Oakland lined up over a billion dollars in commitments and sharing of the costs.
Fisher could not qualify for financing.
So, at the last minute, after Oakland lined up all the approvals and permits
(the site was on the SF Bay and required more environmental and Coastal Commission approvals)
after the City of Oakland did everything that was asked of them and more.
then Fisher tried to ” move the goal posts” and ask for even more money form government officials?!

Then, Fisher pivots to a very tiny deal in comparison on the LV strip?!
with no chance at extra cash flows on the deal?!

This LV deal stinks like 3 week old dead fish.

That is because the former A’s Ownership stepped up and saved the SF/Tampa Giants from moving to Tampa in the early 1990’s.

The Oakland Coliseum has been a long running saga
like the fictional movie “Major League”
where the corrupt, incompetent Owner of a major league team
refuses to spend money tanks the team and the stadium
and hope to convince the press and other owners that the team should move from Cleveland to Florida.

SAME THING HAPPENED WITH THE A’s.
JUST ADD MLB COMMISSIONERS OFFICE INTO THE COMPLETE SABOTAGE PLOT

The A’s had Bud Selig’s former Frat brothers forced into the Ownership suite

when other, more competitive, more locally oriented, and better financed funded groups have sought to buy the A’s and build a stadium with private funds:

Examples include: Reggie Jackson bid in the early 2000’s backed by
Bill Gates, Paul Allen and James McCaw (Communications billionare)

Joe Lacob Owner of Golden State Warriors and builder of dynastic basketball team and privately funded new Arena for Warriors.
Lacob made multiple offers to buy the A’s and build a New Stadium with private funds either in the parking lot of the Coliseum and demolish the old stadium
OR Howard Terminal since Lacob has the cash, credit, connections and finances to get New Stadium deals done like the New basketball arena for the Warriors.

MLB: Bud Selig and Manfred and John Fischer REJECTED THOSE DEALS AND MANY OTHER VIABLE STADIUM AND OWNERSHIP DEALS.

Clearly, Manfred and Fisher had decided to move the team to Las Vegas at least 2 years ago and were just lying and stroking Oakland Officials all along.
The Blame goes to MLB and John Fischer.

If the Baltimore and Seattle desperately needed new stadiums and the cities refused to budge on funding, I’m sure MLB would entertain a move for those franchises as well.

I went as an Astros fan before the SSS. It was nice then (Seattle). In the post-SSS era, fans are uglier to me than extreme political outliers are to their opponents. Maybe someday that will change…

@ckc- Every time Houston is in town, I sit around Astro fans because you guys have traveled well since 2019. I’ve heard fans get heckled lightly but nothing that crosses the line. The only time I saw something excessive was in the street after a game when drunk Mariners and Astros fans went back and forth about the M’s not making the playoffs in 2022 (which we ended up doing, although guess who started that argument with s*** talking) and it never escalated to violence. My guess is you’ve talked a little crap back or you’re sensitive about minor heckling. Going to T-Mo is nothing like visiting an away stadium as a football fan.

Zero chance that Oakland would get an expansion team. It doesn’t make sense for a multitude of reasons, but most importantly, for growth of the sport. MLB wants to grow their product, and Oakland isn’t a smart fit. Expansion will be into new markets.

Why should the city budge on funding after decades of watching the team enter rebuild after rebuild? What evidence does the city of oakland have that with a new stadium ownership would put a better product on the field?

Padres got a new stadium back in 2006ish and that didnt result in spending to put a better product on the field.

Its like people have the memory of a fish cause they seem to forget A’s trading franchise icons like Donaldson Chapman Olson etc.

Considering the birds lost 110 games that season and you went in September is the reason. In 2021 total attendance at the yard was just under 800k so around 9k per game. Obviously the rebuild had something to do with that. In 2022 it was just under 1.4m around 17k per game. In 2023 it was just under 2m around 24k per game. Good for 21st in the league. Baltimore will support a winner.

          FALSE AND MISLEADING INFO

City didn’t chase any teams away.

Warriors built new stadium in SF with private money
(The team is still a short BART ride away from Oakland)

The Raiders were offered a shared stadium with the 49ers in Santa Clara like SOFI in Inglewood shared by the Rams and Chargers.

Mark Davis (Raiders) is showing in LV that he cannot manage a hot dog stand.

A’s Multiple offers for New Owners and New A’s stadiums in SF Bay Area
ALL SABOTAGED BY MLB AND JOHN FISHER.

FISHER HAS ACCEPTED A MUCH SMALLER, VERY TINY LAND STADIUM IN LV
MORE INCOMPETENT OWNERSHIP, MORE CORPORATE WELFARE AND MORE REVENUE SHARING WELFARE FROM MLB.

ENJOY YOUR $30.00 HOT DOGS AND $35.00 SMALL BEERS.

PURE LIES AND MLB/JOHN FISCHER PROPAGANDA

Oakland approved multiple viable stadium deals for the A’s
that were rejected by MLB and Fischer.

Warriors stayed in the Area with a New Arena a 20 minute drive from the old Arena.

Raiders were offered a “shared stadium deal” with the 49ers in Santa Clara that would have generated many more fans and sell out crowds for the Raiders @ Levis Field in Santa Clara.

It works for the Rams and Chargers @ SOFI .

It works for the New Jersey Giants and New Jersey Jets at the Meadowlands.

New York LOST 2 FOOTBALL TEAMS to New Jersey
          (Jets and Giants)

          2 MLB FRANCHISES
          (Dodgers and Giants)
(Move MLB HQ out of NY since it must not be a good city for baseball)?!

And 1 or 2 basketball teams to New Jersey (one came back to Brooklyn).

But, “the sky is falling narrative” from some who are pushing an agenda
          and their own hypocrisy.

The Las Vegas deal is much smaller than any of the deals proposed in the SF Bay Area and Oakland’
and will produce less revenues, require revenue sharing and MLB waived a 400M relocation fee for A’s to LV?!

FROM A FINANCIAL STANDPOINT, THIS LAS VEGAS DEAL IS A BIG LOSER OCMPARED TO THE SF BAY AREA DEALS.

          IN OAKLAND:
Howard Terminal Deal ( a 12billion dollar deal)
          Oakland Coliseum Parking lot deal
(build new stadium and tear down old Oakland Coliseum)

MLB & SF GIANTS DELIBERATELY SABOTAGED DEALS outside of Oakland in SF Bay Area to force A’s out of SF Bay Area in order to create a monopoly for the SF Giants in the SF Bay Area

BLOCKED COMPETITIVE BIDDING FOR OWNERSHIP OF A’s

Reggie Jackson A’s Icon and Hall of Famer, African American)
(with financial Partners Bill Gates, Paul Allen & John McCaw BLOCKED FROM BUYING A’S BY BUD SELIG..
Selig pushed “Insider Deal for his White Fraternity brothers (Wolfe and John Fischer) .
Fischer was allowed inside track to by the team after Wolfe retired.
          AN OPEN COMPETITIVE BIDDING PROCESS
WAS BLOCKED/RIGGED 2X in favor of Bud Selig’s White Fraternity Bros?!

INSTITUTIONALIZED RACISM BY MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL:
          A TEXTBOOK EXAMPLE

Golden State Warriors Owner Joe Lacob BLOCKED FROM BUYING TEAM.
Lacob has 10 year “standing offer” to buy the A’s and build new stadium with private funding in SF Bay Area.
Lacob successfully built dynastic Warriors and New basketball arena with private funding in SF.

Lacob was BLOCKED by Bud Selig, Manfred and Fischer from owning the A’s.

MULTIPLE VIABLE DEALS ample financing in Santa Clara County/Silicon Valley BLOCKED BY MLB AND SF GIANTS.

Bud Selig admitted, publicly, that Santa Clara County territory GIFTED BY A’s to SF Giants to SAVE GIANTS from moving to Tampa in 1990’s was a “TEMPORARY LOAN”.
According to former A’s Owner Walter Haas Jr (Levis) and Bud Selig who had conversations with Haas at the time. Haas expected the Santa Clara County/Silicon Valley territory gifted to the Giants to be RETURNED TO THE A’S after the SF Giants built their new stadium.

SF Giants stadium was not built in Santa Clara County(the whole reason for the territory gift to get Giants new stadium in Santa Clara County and save them from moving to Tampa). SF Giants new stadium was built in downtown San Francisco.
          I
Cisco Field Deal in downtown San Jose was blocked by Selig and SF Giants

Santa Clara Great America deal by amusement park (where 49ers later built Levis field) blocked by by Selig and SF Giants

This entire process with the A’s have been a complete F-UP and DUMPSTER FIRE CREATED BY Selig, Manfred, Fischer, the SF Giants.
It WAS NOT THE FAULT OF OAKLAND, SF BAY AREA OFFICIALS OR THE FANS.

Big PR Coverup by MLB, the SF Giants and Fischer of the A’s.

This whole A’s stadium situation is loaded with LIES, FALSE STATEMENTS, BACKROOM UNDERHANDED DEALINGS BY BUD SELIG, JOHN FISCHER, MANFRED, MLB
IN FORCING A’S OUT OF SF BAY AREA TO Create monopoly for Giants.

Oakland has a higher murder rate, but murders are a tiny portion of crime. I would rather walk around Jack London Square at 2 am than the Strip and if a new stadium is built the neighborhood will as well. Look at what happened in San Diego when Petco was built. East Village and the Gaslamp was not a nice place to be at night before that happened.

Why should a team be in Las Vegas? It’s the smallest market by far. The largest industry is prohibited by law from participating in any way. They cannot buy tickets, luxury boxes, or advertising. They can’t sponsor a patch on the sleeve or get their name on the stadium.

They will be building the smallest stadium in baseball by far. Few people come to Las Vegas for sporting events. They couldn’t sell out F1. The Raiders who presented the same argument about build it and they will come from far and wide are among the lowest in attendance in football and the lowest in out of state tickets sold. Baseball in Las Vegas is doomed before it even begins.

I don’t really see how moving from the Bay area market to a much smaller one makes you more valuable in my opinion.

But whatever. I’m sure some Vegas residents will care, but it will be more of a road trip destination for opposing fans. Good luck filling that place on a Tuesday night in April vs any non premier franchise.

Smallest TV market in MLB. a real estate complex deal for ownership laundered under a shroud of “poor attendance”. When an owner flat out refuses to invest in their team, the city, and the fans then INTENTIONALLY sabotages the payroll and roster to leverage a move the league should step in and force a sale not reward them. This is going to change baseball for the worse in a huge way going forward and mark my words, Cincinnati Baltimore KC Milwaukee etc. are all watching this unfold.

Blah blah blah hyperbole hyperbole blah blah more hyperbole blah blah more hyperbole blah.

Crap. Essentially the same thing happened in St Louis with the Browns and a few other places and franchises, the teams relocated, and life went on.

Still other franchises such as the Brooklyn Dodgers, New York Giants, both Washington Senators, and the Milwaukee Braves grabbed opportunities to move to greener pastures, the teams relocated, and life went on.

Ironically, the Kansas City A’s did the same thing when they moved to Oakland.

Teams relocate and baseball survives. No need for hand-wringing and screaming catastrophe and bloody murder.

The true irony here is all the clowns making the argument about Oakland having homelessness and crime. Have you ever heard of Las Vegas before?

I mean, people do that already: travel to see their favorite team on the road. Now you can make it a Vegas trip. Last I checked, people still travel to Vegas in the summer. Has nothing to do with the quality of the A’s team.

In my initial post, “their” means the visitor’s team. Not their as in Vegas’ team. But I guess reading comprehension is hard for some.

Are you kidding me? You can take the Acela from NYC to Boston for $114 R/T in 3.5 hours, catch an afternoon game. and be home the same night.

Even a non-stop to Vegas is 6 hours in the air each way and another 4 hours in airports. That is going to set you back $400 R/T or more. The taxi to and from the airport isn’t free either. Then there is the 2 or more nights of hotels.

          The
Warriors stayed in the SF Bay Area and are only a 20 minute drive from Oakland.
Warriors Owner Joe Lacob who built a dynasty and a new Warriors Arena
has a 10 year standing offer to buy the A’s and build them a New Stadium
(Howard Terminal or Oakland Coliseum site).

Selig, Manfred, MLB, Fischer and the Giants have sabotaged all viable deals in SF Bay Area for the A’s.

Raiders were offered a “shared stadium” with the 49ers in Santa Clara.

It works fine for the Rams and Chargers # SOFI in Inglewood,.

SF Bay Area IS A REGION THAT INCLUDES OAKLAND, 12 COUNTIES AND 7 MILLION PEOPLE.

Any team that can’t sustain at LEAST 18,000 fans per game on average over a set amount of time (3-5 years), should be moved. I know it’s not that simple logistically, but it’s great in theory!

It is their job to prevent the theft of public funds by wealthy individuals.

I spend very little time in the comments section during the course of a year due to the fact that it suffers from the same disease that almost all social media sites share.

The site itself is very well run and offers a ton of value to those of us that are addicted to baseball. The vast bulk of the commenters, however, are rather useless, and oftentimes worse than useless Which isn’t to say that there are not quite a few rather good ones on here, and they should not be painted with the same brush. It is just that it is not worth wading through the garbage to find the hidden value most of the time so generally I just stick with the site itself.

You, Blue Baron, are a part of the diseased portion. Which is a shame, in a way, as clearly you possess a certain amount of intelligence and knowledge. Oh, not nearly as much as you believe, but not negligible anyway. Back in the day, college and pro players signed agreements to not gamble to protect the integrity of the game. Also, last century, players could easily gamble with a simple phone call to a bookie, so not much different than today. Gambling was banned then, now pro sports encourages players gambling. Sad to see it.

I say the blame is 100% on Fisher. Oakland (and Alameda? County) stood up more than anyone to an owner. Fisher could build it himself, he just wants local government to subsidize his billion dollar toy. Manfred specializes in I’m-gonna-screw-local-government-into-subsidizing-the-cost-of-the-team’s-stadium Law. That’s how he got the Commissioner’s Job

At some point when an owner of a business entity is threatening to leave if you don’t compromise on a deal, you need to play ball or see them take off. Oakland had 3 pro teams a few years ago. Now they have zero, because they are stubborn. All that tax revenue out the window.

Raiders moved because of Fisher. Read what Mark Davis said about it.

The Warriors moved 15 minutes away. Not exactly abandoning the Bay Area.

Oakland approved the Howard Terminal site. Got Fisher hundreds of millions in infrastructure costs paid for. Paid for the EIR and to defend multiple lawsuits against building the ballpark at Howard Terminal. The Governor signed a bill to expedite construction at the Howard Terminal site. Fisher was to get control of a $12 billion development. Then with a couple weeks left, Fisher asked for $600 million more taxpayer dollars. He knew full well that California law required a process of public meetings that could take 6 months before a vote could even be taken.

Now he is moving to Las Vegas where there will be no development to capitalize on, The most fans they will ever be able to have in the stadium is 22k less than the biggest crowd in Oakland in the last 4 years.

San Francisco voters rejected numerous ballot initiatives requiring massive corporate welfare subsidies of the Giants and 49ers.

Privately financed deals were made for new Giants and Warriors facilities in San Francisco.
A’s and Raiders were offered privately financed stadium deals.

MLB IS COMMITTED TO SHAKING DOWN THE TAXPAYERS TO PAY FOR A NEW BUILDING FOR THEIR PRIVATE BUSINESSES.

MLB AND TEAM OWNERS WANTED TO “SOCIALIZE THE RISKS”
AND “PRIVATIZED THE GAINS AND PROFITS”.

Should the government be forcing taxpayers to subsidize/pau for new buildings for private businesses?! private

I don’t think Oakland can win.

Give Fisher his money, and they’re accused of ignoring their infrastructure and public issues.

Don’t, and they’re anti business and not willing to do what it takes to keep a team.

And now every owner of every sports team has the playbook to leverage cities for free money or walk. But somehow capitalists are suddenly ok with handouts, as long as they’re getting them.

It’s pretty pathetic that we’re rewarding a team with a new stadium that is in the exact same location with the already known traffic issues, who couldn’t draw 20k for a playoff game, and yet let’s yank a team out of Oakland because they didn’t play the give the billionaire his handout at the expense of public infrastructure game.

Oakland actually supports their team when the owners are willing to put out a good product.
      ==========================
Do you people even look at the numbers?

Over the past 12 years, they’ve made the playoffs 6 times, which is better than average, and have averaged less than 18,000. No one goes to the games. Of their 17,759 average attendees, most of them were probably fans of the other team.

I’m a RS fan, and we have it good, but that’s because the fans go to every game, even when we are not in contention.

If you don’t go to the games, you don’t deserve a team. That’s all there is to it.

Maybe you need to look at the numbers. Prior to 2021 when Kaval literally told fans NOT to come to games, the A’s were around 20k in attendance most years this century. They outdrew The Marlins, Rays, Pirates, Orioles, and White Sox this century. All while playing in the biggest pit in baseball that was built in 1966.

I understand your comment about TB. But how is Oakland supporting their team? They average 773,000 fans the three seasons.

Heck, 7 of the last 12 seasons have been winning baseball. Six post season trips. They cracked 2MIL in attendance once since 2006. Doesn’t sound like support to me.

Hard to match a pre-approved $12 billion waterfront development that is larger than any in MLB today.

Bet Vegas, Nashville, Charlotte, San Antonio, Indianapolis, Omaha, OKC, a second Boston squad, a third NY squad, Columbus, would all be better spots than Oakland and there’s probably more to add. Oakland fans had their chance and found better things to do than support the A’s.

I don’t think it’s too much to ask that as a taxpayer I get some input as to stadium issues when a portion of my tax dollars are being used to fund the construction and renovation of these places.

Call me a stupid socialist, but taxpayer dollars are used by private entities to transport goods on roads, our money funded the creation of the internet, GPS, etc.

Both of them got to build a new stadium in more or less the same spot. Some move across town. Issue here was Oakland was stuck there with the Giants having claim to the rest of the territory and the local govt wouldn’t help them out. Only choice left was to leave

You really need to give it up. They won 86 games in 2021, and were one game out of the playoffs as late as 9/27 when they went into Seattle and got swept.

And they were 29th in attendance. If you are 29th in attendance in a good season, in the middle of a great playoff run, then you have no shot at surviving.

This one is actually kind of funny. On 9/20, they were playing .550 ball, good for the 10th best record in all of baseball. They had a 4-game series with Seattle, and they drew 17,000. If they drew 17,000 a game, that would be incredibly small. But they drew 17,000 for all four games, in total.

          That’s beyond pathetic.

The A’s gave up the territorial rights to what is now Silicon Valley in a deal to keep the Giants in SF. That really hurts.

CA is a bad state for business in general and Oakland has even more fees, taxes, and regulations of their own.

A combination of diminished revenue plus higher taxes and operating costs is a bad one.

Oakland is not bad at all.
Like most cities, there are good and bad areas.

I have even flown into their airport that has better weather
        and less delays than SFO,

And, it has a BART train station right near the Coliseum
very convenient for A’s fans all over the SF Bay Area.

You can find bad parts of any CITY in the US if that is all you are looking for:

Detroit, Cleveland, Chicago, New York,, Atlanta, Miami, St. Louis
all great sports towns with bad sections also.

If it’s a messy divorce, then the City of Oakland (or whatever County, whoever owns the stadium) should refuse to extend the lease for any amount of time less than 30 years, and the A’s can be homeless for 3 years

Everybody has a price. And yeah, the Oakland stadium lease rate should go up a nice 30 to 50 percent. Maybe put in a local charitable contribution clause to the deal too. Might as well try to get something out of that dying stadium and help the people.

I mean, even if they don’t do a temporary lease to keep the A’s there for a few more years, the A’s will still find a place to play until than. They’ll hardly be homeless. It’s just a matter of whether Oakland wants to keep their team a few more years or not.

The Coliseum Authority already refused to renew the lease. Said it costs 4 times more to hold the games than the current lease pays them.

The A’s are going to be homeless after 2024. The new stadium will not be ready in 2028 as first thought because they are in the midst of a lawsuit and cannot start the process until after it is settled.

Not only has the Coliseum Authority said no, the Giants have said no, and the MLBPA said they were not likely to approve playing in the AAA stadium.

I am sure they will find someplace because MLB will strong arm someone. It just won’t be in the Bay Area.

They didn’t make the playoffs for 14 years (I was there) and they had a loyal fan base because the Kings are too far from the bay and we had nobody else. The A’s have made themselves the little brother to the Giants for years now and that’s the issue. You have to remain somewhat competitive in long stretches unless you’re the only thing in town (looking at the brewers and reds here)

It’s like any other business. If people don’t show up it’s going to be really hard to make it work. Oakland put a pretty good product on the field for a long time. They have a crappy stadium that needs massive renovations or to be replaced. I went back and looked at their attendance and even in their hay day of the late 80s it wasn’t great. It stinks for the dedicated fans but you can still root for them in a different city. For 20 years I’ve lived 1500 miles from my team. Mlb package, yearly trips, and online shopping. Problem solved . I don’t think it’s the end of the world. Maybe they can actually bulk up the payroll going forward.

Owning a baseball franchise is a business. This is a business move. And the right one ! They are instantly worth 10’s of millions more than in Oakland.

Also, it’s a long term winning franchise – so what are they going to do with all that extra money once everything is in place ? Invest it into their product which is good for the sport.

Extreme tanking is another smart business move. The most important thing a team can do is draft well. So just as long as the right scouts are in place to identify top of the draft talent – this franchise will be back as a force well before the decade is out.

The smartest thing MLB could do would be to use the A’s as a test franchise for possible new expansion locations in 2025, 2026, and 2027. Get six possible cities and have the A’s be their “home” team for half a year. See how the markets would work with having an MLB franchise. MLB could compensate the A’s by giving them an extra share of “expansion fees” when the inevitable 31st and 32nd teams join the league. I think it would be cool to see the Nashville/Charlotte A’s in 2025, the Oklahoma City/San Antonio A’s in 2026, and the Portland/Salt Lake City A’s in 2027.

That’s an interesting idea, but it’s probably not going to provide true insight. Like Oklahoma City supported the Katrina Hornets in 2005-06, and now they’re last in NBA attendance demanding 95% publicly funded arena because they’re bums and it’s an unviable market

I’m confused. I admit, I haven’t followed this story that closely but I thought they wanted to move the team because the city of Oakland wouldn’t build them a new stadium.
But now they’re laying out their own money to build a $1.5 billion stadium in another city?
Why couldn’t they build their own stadium in Oakland? I’m asking a legitimate question.

For those of you that don’t know California as a hole is in major decline. I go to enough Oakland athletics games that I am invited to VIP parties. Oakland is crime ridden; homeless everywhere. The current location of the stadium and the proposed other locations for the stadiums in Oakland won’t have drawn fans. You go off the freeway for either the stadium now or proposed locations in Oakland and it is wall to wall homeless people; scary looking people everywhere. Not a safe area.

Only stadium I have ever been to where usually at least one police officer is carrying an exposed ar-15 style rifle at entry gates at night because of the violence that could occur.

In general California is losing people because of the the high crime; the high tax; the condition of living. We lost about 300,000 last figures shown. I am sure less baseball players live full time in California than 10 years ago

The athletics will be going from a crime ridden city; over taxes state to a state with no state tax. It will make it easier to sign free agents and the players won’t have to pay a huge income tax.

This is a great move by Oakland

It’s not a move by Oakland.

Oakland wants the A;s, and the city was proposing a multi-billion dollar plan for the Howard Terminal Stadium.

You’re cutting excuses for a greedy businessman who did everything possible to drive the organization into the ground and out of Oakland for years.

Have you seen what their payrolls were over the last 15 years?

This is the Giants fault plain and simple. No way should they ever have been allowed to claim a City like San Jose, with a metro pop of 2 million and which is 55 miles away from San Francisco, as “their territory.” This ultimately doomed the A’s as Oakland’s viability as a baseball city has declined immensely over the past 30 years. San Jose has a rabid sports fan base and was the perfect relocation spot (only 35 miles from Oakland.)

A’s gave their territory share of 50% to Giants to save Giants from moving to Tampa.

A’s Owner Walter Haas Jr acted “in the best interests of baseball according to Bud Selig.:.

But, the Giants messed up deals in San Jose and Santa Clara County
and pivoted back to SF stadium deal.

Former A’s Owner Haas stated that the A;s expected their Santa Clara County territory to be restored
after the Giants stadium was built.(Selig has confirmed this fact).

MLB Commissioner Bud Selig stabbed the A’s in their backs.
A’s Owner Haas even got together with Dodgers Owners to
rally the votes to block the Giants move to Tampa.

Selig and Manfred and the Giants BLOCKED THE A’s from getting their Santa Clara County territory back and torpedoed multiple A’s stadium deals
for Santa Clara County including: Cisco Field in downtown San Jose
and an A’s stadium near Great America Amusement Park in Santa Clara
near where the 49ers later built their new stadium.

I grew up in the Bay Area—spent years starting in the 60s and thru the 90s going to A’s games—for you old timers, remember Hot Pants Days?–yep, the name describes the event–if you dont know, you should google it.

Anyway, i saw Oakland as world champs and as world chumps, depending on the year-have been to many other stadiums like Baltimore, NY, Houston, Pittsburgh, Philly, SF LA, Anaheim , and i can say, without doubt, that even 20 plus years ago, the Colliseum was absolutely the worst stadium i had ever visited-

I laugh when i see comments from others who have never stepped foot in that building, who comment that it cant be that bad–trust me it was then, and have heard from friends who go to games now, it is way worse—-and with the non working bathrooms leaking into the dugouts,, the seats that are broken, cracks in the concrete, not to mention the parking lot is pothole city—i can understand why they want to move–not saying Fisher is not greedy or is not a bad owner, he is–but the stadium itself is a disgrace —
Maintaining the stadium over its life was never a priority–

The fact of the matter is that even when the A’s were good, fans simply were not coming to games. The A’s have actually been one of the better teams over the past couple decades and they constantly rank near the bottom in attendance. Here are some of their best seasons since 2001 and where they ranked among other teams in overall attendance despite having the largest stadium by capacity:

    2001: 102-60, 19th in attendance
    2002: 103-59, 18th in attendance
    2003: 96-56, 17th in attendance
    2004: 91-71, 19th in attendance
    2005: 88-74, 19th in attendance
    2006: 93-79, 26th in attendance
    2012: 94-68, 27th in attendance
    2013: 96-66, 23rd in attendance
    2014: 88-74, 24th in attendance
    2018: 97-65, 27th in attendance
    2019: 97-65, 24th in attendance
    2021: 87-76, 29th in attendance

    A) Fisher is a cheap and stupid owner.

    C) The City of Oakland is a supportive partner for a new stadium.

If this is all true, there should be a new owner and new team in Oakland by tomorrow, and a new stadium in three years.

It’s no different than what happened in Montreal earlier this century.. For years, MLB and ownership did all it could to sabotage a the fanbase’s interest and then claimed lack of fan support necessitated a move. Having said that, it’s a valid queston whether Oakland is a major league city–it’s only the 45th largest city in the country and only the 7th largest in California, per Wikipedia–and whether the Bay Area is really big enough to be a two-team market. The Bay Area is smaller than both Greater Houston and Dallas-Worth and not much larger than DC Metro (even WITHOUT Baltimore), Delaware Valley (Philadelphia), Greater Atlanta and Southeast Florida (Miami) isn’t all that far behind. All of those are one-team markets.

Not surprising but a little surprising that the owners voted unanimously to put a team they already didn’t like paying revenue sharing money to in a market that guarantees they will be paying them revenue sharing for as long as that exists.

Unfortunately for A’s fans we all knew this was inevitable. Lack of fan support it partly to blame though. Yes the “Al Davis Memorial Dump” as Peter Gammons used to call is a horrible stadium and a penny pinching miser owning the team certainly didn’t help, being bottom third in attendance when the team has been competitive literally half of the time since 2001 helped facilitate this today.

The city fathers of Oakland have got to take some of the blame for the leaving of the Warrior’s, Raiders and now the A’s. When a city loss all teams in the matter of 4 to 5 years there is something wrong with the city not being able to negotiate a deal with at least one of these teams. You can’t just blame the owners of these franchises, yes, they are into making a profit, but what company is not. Never seen a poor man open a business. It is the city goal to bring business into the community. It brings in tax dollars, tourism and a sense of normal life. Oakland is far from what it used to be.

So far the Nevada courts have said no to allowing state funds to be given for tax credits although the process is far from done and could take a year or more to wind itself through the courts. The court cases will slow starting construction by at least a year so no new park until 2029 at the earliest. Its not going to be a fun few years for the gypsies known as the A’s.

    Fisher gets rewarded by:

    1) An increase in franchise value;
    2) A monetary payment from MLB for securing a new, permanent location;
    3) Being a guaranteed revenue-sharing recipient for as long as he owns the franchise by moving to a smaller media market. No one goes down in market size unless the financials are in their favor.

MLB’s revenue-sharing system means a team can totally collapse as Oakland has, not have to worry about attendance, and still make a profit. I’m not arguing against revenue sharing; I’m arguing there’s no penalty for not attempting to win while having the other 29 owners (and fans) pay your bills. Not sure why the other owners go along with this system of reward without penalty.

Bc it’s a zero-sum game in baseball’s monopoly and all 29 team need the A’s. What big market teams say for optics publicly about revenue-sharing is not how they feel about it. They’ll all gladly continue to pay Fischer to lose including the Yankees.

Baseball will not return to Oakland. The city should have paid the shakedown. I know it was a shakedown, but what are you going to do? I say that as a Sonics fan. I wish we had just paid the shakedown and kept our team. Now, every time a team wants a new arena, they threaten to move to Seattle to get the shakedown money from their City. Oakland might be used similarly, but MLB is gone.

This DISGRACEFUL VOTE BY 29 of 30 WHITE BILLIONAIRES IN THE OLD BOYS NETWORK will be STUDIED FOR A LONG TIME AS A “TEXTBOOK EXAMPLE OF INSTITUTIONALIZED RACISM”

Institutional racism, the perpetuation of discrimination on the basis of “race” by political, economic, or legal institutions and systems. Institutional racism reinforces inequalities between groups—e.g., in wealth and income, education, health care, and civil rights—on the basis of the groups’ perceived racial differences. Institutional racism became a particular focus of scholarly investigation in the 1980s, especially in the United States according to online dictionaries.

Oakland A’s Icon and Hall of Fame African American, Reggie Jackson, was blocked from buying the Oakland A’s by Former Commissioner Bud Selig.
Did Reggie have the financial backing to buy the A’s, build a stadium and keep them in Oakland and SF Bay Area?!
YES Reggie’s FINANCIAL PARTNERS included some of the RICHEST MEN IN THE WORLD:
Bill Gates and Paul Allen of Microsoft and John McCaw(McCaw Cellular. They later sold it to AT&;T for $12.6 billion in 1994)
    facebook.com/thehowardsternshow/videos/reggie-jack…

    cbssports.com/mlb/news/reggie-jackson-claims-bud-s…

Bud Selig forced a sale of the A’s to HIS WHITE FRATERNITY BROTHERS
    (Lew Wolf and John Fischer).
Bud Selig and other MLB Owners made sure that the A’s stayed in the Ownership control of the White Old Boys Billionaire’s Club, that is clearly apparent).

Bud Selig also sabotaged an agreed to Sale of the A’s to Joe Lacob who now owns the Golden State Warriors, built them into Champions, built a New Home Arena for the Warriors with private funds in Downtown San Francisco.

“Well, according to Golden State Warriors owner Joe Lacob, he would already have built the ballpark at Howard Terminal if his deal to buy the team from former A’s owner Steve Schott hadn’t been rejected by then-MLB commissioner Bud Selig in favor of his friends John Fisher and Lew Wolff.”

Warriors Owner Joe Lacob also says he had a standing, open order to buy the A’s and build them a new stadium in Oakland FOR THE LAST 10 YEARS.
HE WAS BLOCKED BY MLB AND THE SF GIANTS
    IN MAJOR ANTI COMPETITION ACTIONS.
BASEBALL SHOULD NOT BE A MONOPOLY.
    COMPETITION SHOULD BE ENCOURAGED.

CONGRESS (THE US SENATE) Should open ANTI TRUST HEARINGS ON THE MLB AND THE OAKLAND A’S SITUATION ASAP!

VOTE TO REVOKE MLB’S ANTI TRUST EXEMPTION TO PROMOTE FREE COMPETITION.

Bud Selig also blocked the A’s from building their new stadium in multiple proposed locations in Santa Clara County, San Jose, Silicon Valley.

Bud Selig admitted on the record that former A’s Owner Walter Haas Jr (Levis)
had GIFTED PART OF THE A’s territory “in the Best Interests of Baseball”
to the SF Giants to SAVE THE GIANTS FOR THE SF BAY AREA AND TO BLOCK THE GIANTS MOVE TO TAMPA IN THE EARLY 1990’s

Bud SELIG ALSO ADMITTED, ON THE RECORD TO THE PRESS, that former A’s Owner Walter Haas Jr (Levis) had ALWAYS EXPECTED MLB and the SF Giants would GIVE THE A’S BACK THEIR SHARE OF THE SANTA CLARA COUNTY/SILICON VALLEY TERRITORY after the SF Giants built their New Stadium in the SF Bay Area. Former A’s Owners Haas considered the transfer of the A’s Santa Clara County territory to the SF Giants to be TEMPORARY like a “BRIDGE LOAN” TO KEEP THE GIANTS IN THE SF BAY AREA.
The Idea was for the Giants to build their new stadium in Santa Clara County/Silicon Valley after the SF Giants had NUMEROUS FAILED PUBLIC BALLOT INITIATIVES TO BUILD A STADIUM IN SF.

For whatever reasons, the SF Giants decided to built a privately financed stadium on the
SF Bay in downtown San Francisco with PRIVATE FUNDS.

So, the entire reason for the A’s TEMPORARILY CEDING the A’s share of the Santa Clara County territory to the SF Giants NEVER CAME TO PASS. THE GIANTS NEVER BUILT THEIR STADIUM IN SANTA CLARA COUNTY.

BUT, SELIG AND THE GIANTS THEN SPENT DECADES SABOGATING THE A’S FROM BUILDING A NEW A’S STADIUM IN SANTA CLARA COUNTY TO CREATE A MONOPOLY FOR THE GIANTS IN THE SF BAY AREA.

WOULD LOVE TO SEE BUD SELIG AND GIANTS OWNERSHIP IN DEPOSITIONS UNDER OATH IN A MAJOR LAWSUIT AS TO HOW THEY SABOTAGED THE A’S VIABILITY IN THE SF BAY AREA FOR DECADES.

In other Major Cities with 2 major league franchises: LA Dodgers-Angels, NYC Yankees-Mets, Chicago: Cubs=White Sox the TERRITORIES ARE SHARED EQUALLY.
HOWEVER, BUD SELIG THEREAFTER, CONTINUOUSLY BLOCKED THE A’S FROM REGAINING THEIR SANTA CLARA COUNTY SAN JOSE SHARED TERRITORY
FOR THE A’S TO BUILD A NEW STADIUM THERE.
THE 49ERS BUILT THEIR NEW HOME, LEVIS FIELD, IN THAT AREA.
WITH BART AND ALL THE FREEWAYS, THE A’S COULD HAVE BUILE THERE STADIUM THERE TOO WITHOUT MLB AND SF GIANST INTERFERENCE.

Joe Lacob (Warriors Owner) “Standing/Open Offer to Buy the A’s and build a New Stadium in Oakland/SF Bay Area si.com/mlb/2022/07/10/joe-lacob-standing-offer-pur…

“How might their fate be different if they had an owner such as Joe Lacob, who has enjoyed four championships in the past eight seasons as primary owner of the Warriors”?

THIS VOTE IS A TRAVESTY AND A SLAP IN THE FACES OF AFRICAN AMERICANS, PEOPLE OF COLOR AND WOMEN WHO HAVE BEEN INTEGRAL PARTS OF SUPPORTING MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL FOR A LONG TIME.

IF IS LOOKS LIKE “INSTITUTIOANLIZED RACISM”, IF IT SMELLS LIKE “INSTITUTIONALIZED RACISM”, IF ITS AFFECT IS TO PERPETUATE INSTITIONALIZED RASCISM, THEN IS PROBABLY IS “INSITUTIONALIZED RACISM” BY MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL AGAINST THE OAKLAND COMMUNITY, AGAINST REGGIE JACKSON, AGAINS OTHER, QUALFIED AFRICAN AMERICAN OWNERSHIP GROUPS AND AGAINST THE PLAYERS AND THEIR FAMILIES.

THE EVEN BIGGER DISGRACE IS THE INSTITUTIONALIZED RASCISM OF MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL FOR DECADES SABOTAGING THE OAKLAND A’S ECONOMIC VIABILITY AND A MAJORITY MINORITY CITY RUN BY MINORITIES AND WOMEN.

MLB IS STRIPPING AWAHY THEIR OAKLAND A’S THEY SUPPORTED FOR 50+ YEARS
TO PERPETUATE INSTITUTIONALIZED RACISM, THE VIRTUALLY ALL WHITE OLD BOY BILLIONAIRE’S OWNERS CLUB IN TAKING A LESSER FINANCIAL OFFER TO BUY THE A’S TO KEEP IT WITH BUD SELIGS WHITE FRATERNITY BROTHERS, BLOCK IT FROM AFRICAN AMERICAN OWNERSHIP, RIP IT AWAY FORM A MAJORITY, MINORITY COMMUNITY IN OAKLAND WHOSE FANS SUPPORTED THE TEAM AND TURNED OUT IN BIG NUMBERS WHEN IT WAS RUN BY COMPETENT OWNERSHIP.

REMEMBER FORMER DODGERS OWNER FRANK MC COURT?!
ISN’T CURRENT A’s OWNER JOHN FISCHER THE POOR MAN’S VERSION OF
    FRANK MC COURT?!
DIDN’T MLB FORCE FRANK McCourt TO SELL THE DODGERS FOR MISMANAGEMENT OF THE TEAM AND MISUSED OF TEAM REVENUES?!

Will MLB WILL CONTINUE TO SUBSIDIZE THE WHITE FRANTERNITY BROTHER WITH MLB OLD BOYS CLUB, S ‘SPECIAL DEALS NOT AVAILABLE FOR QUALIFIED AFRICAN AMERICANS LIKE REGGIE JACKSON?!”

LIKE REVENUE SHARING IN A MARKET THAT DOES NOT REQUIRE REVENUE SHARING WHEN IT HAS COMPETENT OWMERSHIP LIKE WALTER HAAS JR (LEVIS)

MLB should force Fisher to sell the team to competent baseball owner(s) who know how to put together an administration and team that will be successful in Vegas. The money and crowd will be there and it will become a very attractive area for players looking to build a winning team.

Most cities have rich and poor areas.
That is one of the flaws of our economic system.

SF Bay Area has a yearly GDP of over 577 billion dollars.
Nevada has a yearly GDP of only a few hundred million dollars.
      LV TV market =42nd
SF Bay Area TV market =m 6th.

With the right ownership, like the former Owner Walter Haas Jr (Levis)
the A’s broke attendance records for the playoffs with over 56,000 fans for a home playoff game.
If the competent, well funded owner invests in his players, puts a competitive team on the field and marketing his product (the team) then the fans will come.

Sewage system pretty bad in fan restrooms and in the clubhouses, entrance bridge to the stadium from the BART was full of people selling counterfeit team items, and the place wreaked of pot smoke. That was 20 years ago so I can imagine how it is now. Fisher should be forced to sell to team to responsible baseball owners who will invest in the team and make LV a successful environment.

Getting beyond the arguments about Oakland …

If I were an owner, I don’t see how I could have voted in favor of moving to Vegas given the current details. No valid renderings of a stadium. A site that, while in a showy location, is an impossible footprint for a baseball stadium. A climate that will require a dome to accommodate fans in any sort of comfort, which will just add to the footprint. Unrealistic attendance claims for a stadium that have smaller capacity than any current stadium. It just seems like a complete mess, and will virtually lock in the A’s as unable to financially compete with their rivals.
