Marlins Place Huascar Brazobán On Restricted List Due To Visa Issue

By Darragh McDonald | March 26, 2024 at 6:40pm CDT

The Marlins announced to members of their beat, including Craig Mish of The Miami Herald, that right-hander Huascar Brazobán has been placed on the restricted list. The righty has not been able to secure a visa to enter the United States and missed all of Spring Training. The club’s 40-man roster count drops to 39.

Brazobán, 34, has pitched 90 2/3 innings for the Marlins over the past two years with a 3.77 earned run average. He has a 26.4% strikeout rate in his career, 13.1% walk rate and 51.1% ground ball rate. He has earned 17 holds for the club in that time.

The visa issue is unfortunate for the righty, as he won’t accrue major league service time or pay for as long as he is on the restricted list. For the Marlins, it deprives them of one of their pitchers but it will give them an extra roster spot to use in the meantime.

Shocked it wasn’t because of an arm injury. That’s the style this year.

After 3 years of open borders and 30 million undocumented migrates coming over at will and nothing being done but DNS all of a sudden take that hard line stance on the baseball player lol.

So really he should play the lottery because 1 in 30 million is incredible odds lol.

You are aware that border apprehensions and expulsions have gone up during the current administration. In 2022, over 2.2 million apprehensions and expulsions. The high under the previous administration (all talk, no walk) was just a little over 800,000. But this is a baseball site and we should stick to baseball.

I believe he is on the commish’s administrative leave list. Think he is technically on the 40 man now but will go back on the list by Thursday.

Can the Marlins give Avi Garcia a free trip to Venezuela, then make sure to have someone snatch his paperwork while he’s there, then arrange for Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder to be the persons deciding if Avi is allowed back into the country to play for the Marlins.

Can someone explain how all of a sudden he may be having visa issues when he’s been in the states since 2013 playing baseball? Does this have to do with the fact that he may have committed some kind of crime, or is this just a mishap with paper work that’s taking longer to get straightened out?

He missed 2019 due to “visa issues” and was late to Spring Training last year because of “visa issues”.
After a full season’s worth of pay in 2023 he should have lawyered up and cleared the issues in time for this season.

    Per Craig Mish:

“Sources say his visa issue stems from an identity/age discrepancy from when he signed as an international free agent.”
