Re: Braves 2025 rotation — they also have Hurston Waldrep, who, IMHO, would not be all that surprising to see him leap over AJSS on the prospect depth chart this season. Not many teams have a 2023 All-Star SP healthy and starting the year at AAA (Elder).

Will Adolis Garcia continue using steroids in 2024?

Chicken In Philly?
What? Sure, buddy. In the meantime, MLB loves suspending top prospects.

Florial may never be a good, or even league average hitter, but the bar to replace Straw’s hitting is in HeII’s boiler room. He is arguably the worst hitting center fielder in the league. Straw ranks last among CF’s with 800 PAs over the last two seasons in the following stats: Slugging%, OPS, ISO, wOBA, wRC+. He also ranks bottom 5 in batting average and OBP.

Would you buy an Obvious T-shirt if Garrett Cooper makes the team out of camp that says “Hangin’ With Mr. Cooper”
I hope he makes the team so I can just customize an obvious t-shirt
rememberthecoop
No.
Next question?
rememberthecoop
But I might buy one that says “Remember The Coop”
Logjammer D"Baggagecling
You can now customize your own shirts on there. So go for it Coop.

It’s fair to say that Jackson Jobe seems unlikely to be up in 2024. But, after seeing what he did to the Twins last week, I’m thinking he’s very close. On any other team, he would be up no later than the ASG. The Tigers are deep at pitcher, so if he doesn’t come up before roster expansion, it’ll be because he was blocked.

Pham would get more boos from Padre fans than Trevor Bauer

@1:03; Maybe AJ likes Jurickson over Tommy because of age factor? 36 vs 31. Also, k rate a factor? JP is in mid teens, TP in mid 20s.

Steve, it’s kinda obvious that Hicks signed with Giants because they agreed with his desire to start. They didn’t do it to be weird/cute as you responded in the chat. Again, Hicks wants to start and Giants were likely his best opportunity to do that. 4yrs/$44 mill is a great contract for a quality starter. Of course that’s to be determined but he never has had a LEGIT opportunity to start. His first 2 years in the minors he had great success starting. I just wonder why you have already decided it won’t work. But “weird/cute” seems pretty off base.
goob
@claude I agree with this 100%. It’s Steve’s take here that seems “weird/cute” to me – and I really enjoy and appreciate his knowledge and opinions on things.
Although ST doesn’t prove anything, the early results with Hicks as an SP look encouraging. But if it doesn’t play out that way, the possibility of the Giants instead having a lefty set-up/closer throwing smoke for the next few years seems like one hell of a potential back-up plan. Nothing weird or cute about that
claude raymond
I like what Adams typically writes as well. BTW, Hicks is a righty.

Oops…Thank you for the correction.

As a Cardinals fan, all I can say is be prepared to be disappointed. Hicks will make you drool with the easy velocity and heavy downward movement. But he will break your heart with spotty command, lackluster preparation, and constant nagging injuries that keep him out longer than expected. I’m with Steve. When we traded him last year, I was glad to see him go.

Agreeing to let him do it is weird/cute. As you mentioned, other teams didn’t want to let him…because he can’t even stay healthy as a BP arm.
claude raymond
1984, what a dumb and thoughtless post. It helped them sign him. Hicks has pitched well but its spring. And he hasnt looked either weird nor cute. 1984. Great book. You. Not notso great.
Jean Matrac
1984, Why is it weird/cute for the Giants to try with Hicks, but it isn’t for the Braves trying the same thing with Reynaldo Lopez? Or the Padres with Michael King?
Sid Bream Speed Demon
Lopez has done it and stayed healthy, plus he said when he signed that he didn’t care what they had him do. The Padres have done it successfully with Seth Sligo, so maybe that’s why there. The Giants often turned starters into openers in the past, not the other way around, and Hicks has never stayed healthy.
Jean Matrac
Who’s Seth Sligo?
Just kidding.
Whether Lopez had done it before is irrelevant, But if he had success as a starter, why did he get moved to the pen?
There are tons of guys that transitioned from reliever to starter, Derek Lowe, Adam Wainwright, C.J. Wilson, Chris Sale, among many others.
Staying healthy is a different issue. It may work out, and it might not. He might be able to stay healthy, and maybe he won’t. But, the point was, characterizing the attempt to use Hicks as a starter, as weird/cute suggests bias.
And if it doesn’t work out the Giants have a fire-balling set-up guy.

I’ll be honest between his answer to this question and his answer to a later question about giving Zaidi credit I get a feeling he may not like the Giants very much
Jean Matrac
Gmen777, I thought the same thing, but I actually think Steve misunderstood that question. I could be wrong, but I thought the questioner was referring the wrong-headed belief that Zaidi can’t land top FAs.
Gmen777
I personally read it as him being dismissive of Zaidi’s offseason and saying he got lucky that Soler, Chapman and Snell fell into his lap

Jazz Chisholm showing how classy he is in recent interview, mad at Miggy Ro cuz Jazz overslept a team meeting then saying Miggy Ro isn’t a good athlete? What a turd. Hiw boutique taking some person responsibility for you effing up

I don’t believe that Steve even looked at q’s from before the chat.

Mentioning the Cease trade(grading it) made me think of the “Cano, Diaz trade to the mets.” Hmmm, what do the M’s have left from that trade?
NYCityRiddler
The same thing most people on this site have to offer. Nothing! Ahahaha!
