The Yankees are “aggressively” searching for a right-handed bat to add to their lineup, according to a report from USA Today’s Bob Nightengale. Nightengale adds that the club would “ideally” like that bat to be a third baseman, and goes on to suggest that the club is also interested in adding a starting pitcher.
The Yankees are off to a solid start this season, with a 30-21 record that puts them in the driver’s seat for not only the AL East but also a bye through the Wild Card round of the playoffs as things currently stand. Even so, that’s not to say the club is without flaws. Reigning AL MVP Aaron Judge anchors the club’s lineup, and with a .315/.439/.683 slash line dating all the way back to the start of the 2022 campaign it’s hard to imagine him slowing down any time soon. Standout performances from Jasson Dominguez and Anthony Volpe to this point in the year appear to be largely sustainable, and despite questions about Cody Bellinger’s slow start, Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s injury woes, Paul Goldschmidt’s elevated BABIP and the sustainability of hot starts for Trent Grisham and Ben Rice, that collective group seems likely to allow the club to continue producing at a high level at the plate.
If there’s a substantial question mark in the club’s lineup, however, it’s on the infield. Chisholm should be able to hold down the fort at second base when he eventually returns from the injured list, but Oswaldo Cabrera was hitting at a below average level at third base even before his likely season-ending ankle injury. DJ LeMahieu, Oswald Peraza, and Jorbit Vivas are currently mixing and matching around the infield with Chisholm on the shelf, but adding a right-handed bat to the mix who’s more reliable than LeMahieu (52 wRC+ in 2024) and Peraza (career 73 wRC+) would go a long way to solidifying the club’s offense.
Right-handed bats who can play the infield seem likely to be relatively few and far between on this offseason’s market, however. Perhaps Otto Lopez of the Marlins, Lenyn Sosa of the White Sox, or Amed Rosario of the Nationals could make some sense, but there aren’t a lot of obvious fits on clear sellers at the moment, especially if the Orioles aren’t interested in trading controllable pieces within the division. Plenty of teams could still plausibly fall out of contention before the trade deadline, but with two months to go until then the Yankees will need to wait a lot longer if they’re going to find an upgrade with a club like the Cardinals or Rangers that’s currently on the bubble of contention.
Fortunately, it’s a lot less difficult to find viable pitching help. The Yankees are relying on rookie Will Warren and journeyman Ryan Yarbrough in the rotation as things currently stand, so an ace pitcher won’t be necessary to upgrade the rotation. Sandy Alcantara remains one of the names getting the most buzz despite his struggles with Miami this year, but even someone like White Sox righty Adrian Houser could help raise the floor in the Yankees’ rotation and offer some depth while the club waits for arms like Luis Gil and Marcus Stroman to get healthy.
Of course, even in those cases it’s still early enough in the season that any sort of substantial trade is unlikely. The calendar hasn’t even flipped to June yet, and for the time being clubs looking for external solutions are typically best off scouring the waiver wire for potential additions to the roster given how rare blockbuster deals are this time of year. Orlando Arcia and Kevin Pillar are two right-handed hitters who have been let go by their organizations in recent days, while Kyle Gibson and Sean Newcomb are among the potential starting options who have recently been let go just within the Yankees’ own division.
Burke, Vargas and Booser for Schlittler and Arias. Make it happen Getz!
Nah easy pass on that one. Nice try on that one though.
Cap – Now hear me out …… let’s say it’s late July, Bregman is playing again and the Sox are out of contention ….. Bregman to the Yankees would be a win-win-win.
I get the Yanks want help sooner than that, but realistically most of the teams still have postseason fantasies ….. or at least want their fans to continue having them, which means it’s really difficult right now to find what they are looking for.
You do realize that’s Cora’s guy right and as long as he’s there Bregman won’t be going anywhere
Chase – Of course you’re right he’s Cora’s BFF but the only reason he accepted the 3-year deal was to earn the 6-year mega deal he was looking for. He’s opting out after this season and with Mayer, Campbell and another top prospect or stopgap they’ve got the infield covered. They aren’t gonna pony up for Bregman when they’ve got to spend big on extensions and pitching.
You’re probably right but I see them just getting the draft pick for him and letting him walk before a trade
Fantasy baseball.
Chase – Bregman would land a haul at the trade deadline. There would be no reason to keep him if they are out of contention, which looks even more likely after coming within one run of losing 3-of-4 at home to the lowly Orioles.
You’re not getting a haul for half a season of a player. He if got traded he would 100% opt-out.
Bregman? Oh wait…..
No chance.
What would a serious and fair return be to the White Sox for Houser and Sosa if they were to do a package deal? Not expecting anything huge but I’m not that familiar with the Yankees farm.
Schlittler, but why would the Yankees need a Right handed bat, they crush lefties. Goldschmidt is hitting .500 against lefties, Bellinger is hitting .400, Judge has an 1.182 SLG against lefties. Id think they’d add a lefty bat at 3B.
The White Sox can have LeMahieu for him.
Dodgers in 4!
@DarrenDreifortsContract
The Motor City Kitties in 3.
Better. Dodgers spent over 6 billion dollars since 2000 trying to win championships and have a Covidship and a regular one to show for it. They’ve also pushed 1 billion dollars into future obligations so anything short of multiple championships will be equivalent of buffalo bills of the 90s.
I loved that Bills team. Bledsoe was awesome. Loved the Dolphins and Marino too. Simms not so much.
Bledsoe? I think you mean Jim Kelly, who was indeed pretty awesome.
Drew Bledsoe was a QB for the dang Patriots. Ok now my adled brain is remembering correctly thanks.
He went to Buffalo after the Patriots
WadeBoggsWildRide, One of my favorite ESPN commercials had Chris Berman teaching a college class on nicknames. He asked a male student for the nickname for Drew Bledsoe. The guy came up with, “Drew Bledsoe much he needed a blood transfusion”. Wrong said Berman. A female student raised her hand and said, “there is no nickname for Drew Bledsoe, to which, Berman replied, “correct”.
Did he ever win anything? Always putting up 300 yards and losing.
Philip Rivers before Phillip Rivers.
Big yardage, bigger losses.
Why worry of the money? Fans said the same thing about the Yankees, Ohtani Japanese money alone will make them crazy money.
Oh I was thinking Atlanta Braves of the 90-early 2000s
“Better. Dodgers spent over 6 billion”..
Just so you know, Forbes estimates the Dodgers will add over $2B in additional revenues due to the presence of one Shohei Ohtani.
I’m guessing you don’t quite understand the economic principle of “spending money to make money.” Look it up sometime.
You may find it interesting, because in business it’s not what you spend that matters, it’s what you make on the money spent.
and all the shark tank estimated that ring would not be worth the investment and the breatheometer would be.. Mcdonalds did the same with chipotle.
Estimates are guesses at best. My company estimated we would increase revenue by 500m in 5 years based on projections for our division and i dont think we hit 100m because well things happen. Their estimates probably assume that Ohtani will be cy young level as soon as he returns too which not many 2nd TJ pitchers comeback to either have long careers or successfully as far as i have heard. Eovaldi is the only one i can think of so far.
I don’t think the Dodgers expect Ohtani to be CY level when he returns to the mound. Ohtani has only gotten CY votes in one season, 2022, when he finished 4th. But he averaged a 3.0 pitcher’s WAR, per BBRef, in his 5 seasons pitching for the Angels, which, along with what he does with the bat has tremendous value.
I too love wasting money not getting what I paid for mlb fan.
Celebrating revenue and profit for an organization in a discussion about baseball is silly.
Is the point of baseball to make money or win championships? If you’re celebrating a team making more money instead of their baseball accomplishments you’ve already lost the argument.
It helps if you are in the Los Angeles market. Not sure that it works in Cincinnati
You re only off by 13 years, when you assume they ve been trying to buy championships. You also might want to look up their annual revenue, it has went up with their payroll.
Ultimately MLB is a business and the Dodgers have done quite well bolsterimg their revenue.
Lastly what you call a Covidship, every team played the season under the same rules. So everyone had an equal shot at winning. Do you next want to try and diminish championships won in even years?
stevetheump.com/Payrolls.htm#2004payroll
Yankees were ahead of Dodgers bulk of the years since 2000, fyi…
So point of baseball is revenue not championships. Lmao dumb.
Yeah not everyone had equal shot at the Covidship. East coast teams due to climate weather and other factors experienced far grater impacts of Covid than western teams did. By far and away eastern teams experienced more out breaks more interruptions and lost more players due to covid rules and regulations than their western counterparts parts.
It’s nice to believe it was an equal shot. It wasn’t. Not even close. It completely ignores reality what happened that season and goes against logic itself to suggest equality was anywhere close to Covidship.
Congrats on winning it but players opting out players being ruled ineligible due to covid symptoms due to being exposed to covid due to outbreaks due to cities experiencing high number of covid cases isnt a
Typical season and shouldn’t be treated as such ever.
But please tell us any other season where a player showing up with a cold or flu made other players ineligible impacting outcome of games for one or both teams. We can wait while you fail to find such an example where it actually happened.
Yes the point of MLB is absolutely revenue and profits. It’s a business first.
Take out flu and insert TJS are any other injury(s). Every team went into that season with same rules from their wins, losses, and chance took over.
No the point of baseball is to win championships. So your entire argument is flawed from the get go. You watch 162 tiger games hoping they made more money today? lol sure you did.
Hey tigers lost 21-0 but least they made money today. Winning!
Ugh tigers won 5-2 but lost revenue today ugh!
Sure you definitely think that way lmao
One problem with your analogy and it’s a big one that completely undermines your example making it silly.
Gerrit Cole getting TJS didn’t make max fried ineligible to play.
Gerrit Cole having the flu doesnt make
max fried ineligible cause fried was exposed
Gerrit Cole having covid and exposing fried made fried and others as close contacts even if they didn’t have covid.
Nice try though. Wanna try again? You do see the difference right? Right?
Name 1 season where players showing with cold or flu made others ineligible to play the game impacting outcomes. Still waiting. TJS didn’t even meet the criteria and was a horrible comparison on your part.
You are truly naive if you think the point of MLB is to win championships. It is and always has been a business first.
And that chance of Fried being out due to Cile was chance that every team pote tally could face.
Again those were rules that applies to everyone prior to them having an impact.
So you watch games only if tigers make a profit and don’t like games when they lose a profit? Yeah no you don’t.
Rules applying to everyone doesn’t mean everyone was affected equally and in fact they weren’t affected equally cause healthy players were ruled ineligible if they were a close contact more often for easy costs teams than west coast. East coast teams were impacted more for things out of the control like covid hit spots happening more frequently on East coast
You don’t seem to understand that very well. You don’t seem to understand a lot of things very well.
You want to say it’s a Regular ship like any other so I dared you to find a season where cold or flu made healthy players ineligible. You’ve the to do that.
I’m sorry your TJS example sucked. Find a better one.
If watching numerous games on year Tigers have made a profit and have not won a championship.
And YES by all means the Tigers exist as a business for the purpose of generating revenue and creating a profit. MLB is a business, that is without a doubt an absolute truth.
Just like with injuries and the rules governing them, not everyone is affected equally.
You are saying what you fail to grasp. I’d type it in crayon but that’s not an option.
LMAO, you explained in the beginning sentence why my TJS was relevant yet you can’t grasp how it applies on any given year.
Did the Braves do without Strider and Acuna for much of last year?? Yes, obviously they did. Most other teams did not lose their top position player and pitcher. That is what is called chance, it did not diminish the entire 2024 season.
And I do not care what you dared me. The 2020 season started with same rules for every team. That is an absolute fact. Any chance happenings from there happened after the teams started playing under those rules. Those are facts that have not and will not change.
tell us any other season where a player showing up with a cold or flu made other players ineligible impacting outcome of games for one or both teams. We can wait while you fail to find such an example where it actually happened.
Yeah you don’t celebrate profits and mismanagement of money. Thats not how baseball is played lmao. Maybe brush up on rules of baseball.
TJS impacts 1 player not other players
Covid made healthy players ineligible
Bad analogy is bad. Continuing to use bad analogies after you’ve ben told it’s bad for obvious reasons makes you look silly.
No I don’t celebrate profits or revenue. But I understand the MLB is a business and first and foremost they operate and exist to make $.
Every team starting the 2020 season did so under the same rules did they not? YES they did. Any But this, but that thereafter means nothing.
Just like you fail to accept MLB is a business, you fail to accept that the 2020 season started with every team having the same rules. Anything that happened thereafter was yet to happen but they accepted playing under those rules.
And because you tell me something in your opinion(opinions are not facts) is bad is irrelevant to me. Because I do not agree with your opinion and have presented fact opposing them in no way makes me look silly. Your disregard of comprehending facts on the other hand…..
Mlb is a bunch of games played where rules say the team that scores the most runs win and the team that wins it all is the mlb championship team
MLB wins/losses isnt decided by revenues and whoever made the most money isn’t champion.
Hope that helps.
The rules of baseball are irrelevant. Without profits and revenue MLB would cease to exist. MLB and it’s franchises are legal business entities. They are required to file taxes and are bound by all rules are government has as it pertains to businesses such as them.
That is reality. MLB teams exist and the owners bought the franchises to turn a profit. Fans hope their teams will win a championship(s) bur that in no way changes the fact they are businesses.
Being under the same rules doesn’t mean they were affected equally.
Eastern cities had increased COVID out breaks meaning eastern teams had higher risk of players being exposed and impacting their games players and breaking said rules
Imagine being like “it was totally fair!” While literally half the league had increased risk of being in violation of the rules due to circumstances out of their control, I.e cities they played in having higher number of covid case.
That’d be like umpires calling low balls for my team not low balls for your team and you saying damn the catcher needs to do a better job framing! Yeah no you’d be livid at the ump whine and complain about the obvious discrepancy between calls be honest here.
We are talking about championships namely Covidship and the one the dodgers won last year lmao rules of baseball are perfectly applicable here
You are an absolute imbecile. MLB is a business as are each of its franchises. They are treated as such by the government and must adhere to all laws which supercedes any rules they choose to govern their product which is the game of baseball.
At the top of that structure is MLB the business..
You can’t disprove anything I said so you resort to name calling. Your defeat is accepted.
Come up with better arguments and analogies that aren’t easily disproven.
Teams do not exist for the sile reason of winning championships. The MLB and its franchises do however exist to earn revenue and try to profit off said revenue.
And again the rules of 2020 were established prior to the season being eyed. How they affected each team came down to chance after the fact. Any amount of crying by individuals such as you will not change that.
MLB is about winning games that’s what baseball is. Winning games. You don’t win a Covidship or championship with revenue.

Please show me where the baseball hof shows players career earnings as qualification for entry to baseball hof

Baseball and all of its franchises are legal business entities in the United States of America and Canada. That is another fact.
Here feed you estrogen driven primal urges to have the last word….
Revenue doesn’t win games
Revenue doesn’t win covidships championships
Revenue doesn’f qualify mlb players for the baseball hof
Pretty sad that even a World Series win can’t get rid of your Yankees Derangement Syndrome.
I think Dodgers Derangement Syndrome is more prevalent and persistent than YDS.
What does that opinion have anything to do with him having YDS?
They are 31-20, not 30-21
31-21 and dropping
32-20*
Arenado and Fedde still make a lot of sense. But the Cardinals have more leverage now, so they are going to be willing to eat even less of that contract. The Yankees should have made the move in the offseason.
Arenado’s OPS is .577 over his past 30 games and his contract is getting any prettier. The Cardinals have zero leverage over the Yankees, or any team for that matter
Areando is playing great defense and yes his contract actually does get “prettier” he makes less money the next couple years.
It doesn’t matter. No plans to trade him at the moment.
You have no plans to trade him. I assure you, the Cardinals would still love to move him.
I assure you they are not looking to deal him right now. Watch the games. Watch what’s going on. He’s making game changing plays daily and the crowd can see it. He’s not going anywhere.
Arenado is not the same defender, I would say he isn’t hurting a team by playing there but his defense isn’t a plus anymore
You are wrong Mariners fan. Last couple years he wasnt as good this year he’s been excellent.
The Yankees are looking to a right handed bat. It’s a bonus if they play 3rd, but they can pivot to 2nd and move Jazz back to 3rd if needed. Arenado is not a bat at this stage of his career.
Chisholm does not belong at 3b.
Arenado is just as good as Suarez with an OPS 100 points lower because he’s a good defender. But it doesn’t matter he’s not available.
Cards – You exaggerate. He’s 4th in DRS, that makes him good … not excellent.
Don’t be a homer ;O)
Cards – Nobody here cares whether Arenado is in a relationship, all that matters is how good he is at third base …. on the baseball field that is.
Cards – How can you argue about a player whose name you don’t even know?
It’s not “Areando”, it’s “Arenado”.
He’s owed $31 mil combined the next two years. That’s pretty reasonable
Arenado’s luxury tax hit is still $25.5MM each of the next two seasons even if his actual pay is going down. That’s the number that matters the most for a team like the Yankees that is up against the highest luxury tax penalty. His production doesn’t warrant that contract anymore
Did you watch the game today? Team is playing great and Arenado is a big reason why. It made sense in the offseason but things change. This team looks like it can contend now.
I agree the team is playing great. But I still think they should stick to their stated goal of giving playing time to young players. Saggese looked good to start the season and Jose Fermin has done absolutely everything you could ask of him. And of course, there is Gorman.
Trade the vets, move Donovan to 3B, play the young guys at 2B, and continue to build for next year. Whatever we achieve this year is a bonus.
They will do as little as possible due to the weird management transition they committed to.
Gorman probably needs to go. Been a huge Gorman fan from the day we drafted him but he’s not a good fit for the roster.
Arenado is going nowhere

A couple months ago I would have agreed with you. But it appears the transition is complete. Bloom is calling the shots while Mo handles the press and enjoys a little farewell tour.
They will make a move if the stars align and Arenado agrees to a trade.
Let’s hope. Can’t run any organization without a head. Or two heads.
Since his hot start, he’s slashing just .212/.275/.356/.631 over the last 38 games and 160 PAs. If he’s a ‘big reason why’ they’ve been playing well, then he must be like prime Ozzie Smith out there with the glove. If he keeps this up (and his advanced numbers suggest he will*), his OPS+ will end up in the 80s and his WAR around 2. Cards should trade him ASAP while he still has some value.
*nearing career lows of EV, hard hit %, and line drive %. His Statcast page ain’t pretty.
He’s been playing AMAZING defense fella. You found all those offensive stats find some defensive ones i am sure they will agree with what I am saying.
Cards – You need to actually watch the games, not just follow the scoring in some app. Get a subscription to MLB.TV, it’s the best way to watch a lot of games. Then you’ll be able to accurately rate Arenado and other third basemen.
Amazing defense would be of more value if he played SS, or one of the other up-the-middle positions. But at 3B, a corner position, hitting is more important. This season he’s averaged less than 2-1/2 (2.41 actually) chances per game. No matter how great the defensive play at 3B is, a guy can’t have that great an impact on less than 2-1/2 chances per game. Especially considering that most of those are probably routine that most 3B guys make.
The Giants have Chapman. You don’t think defense at 3b matters?
The Giants had Chapman in 2024 and they finished in 4th place in the division, 9 games out of the last WC berth, with an 80=82 record. Chapman is probably the best defensive 3B in MLB, but that defense didn’t help the Giants a whole lot last season.
It’s helping this season right?
Wow. 2.5 per game !
How many does a shortstop get ?
Actually, I made a mistake. Last season Arenado averaged 2.7 chances per game. Willy Adames, last season with the Brewers averaged 3.4 per game.
Of course, there’s more to it than that. Arenado led the league in DPs 8 times, with his career high of 44 in 2018, averaging 0.29 per game. Last season Chapman led the league with 34 DPs, 0.22 per game, Adames averaged o.41 DPs per game. But Ezequiel Tovar led MLB last season with 113 DPs, for o.72 per game.
And assists per game for 2024 should be looked at as well: Arenado 1.93, Chapman 1.90, Adames 2.0, Tovar 2.79.
That’s right DonOsbourne…..
The Cardinals have all of the additional players the Yankees need to win the World Series.
And —- John Mozeliak is wanting to move all of the Cardinals best players —-before he leaves —- for nothing!!!
Mozeliak has proven over the past 5-8 year —- the Cardinals he trades to contending teams for nothing prospects —- at the trading deadlines become Series MVP’s after they got away from Mo and his Philosophies!!
(Most recently — Ask the Dodgers how much they liked getting Tommy Edman).
What about the Arozarena trade? Doesn’t look so bad anymore does it?
Edman was hurt at the time of the trade. The Cardinals made a similar trade in moving Bader for Montgomery and that worked out great. Do you remember that champ?
17dizzy, Off the subject, you must be about my age. My first experiences with MLB baseball was watching The Game of the Week, with Dizzy Dean, and Peewee Reese. I wasn’t living in a ML city in the 50s, and it was my only access to baseball on TV. I loved how Dizzy finished every half inning: “No runs, on one hit, no errors, and one man left on base, and the score after one-half inning of play, the Cubs zero, and the Cardinals coming to bat” e.g.
I don’t see how Arronado would be un upgrade over Peraza. Plus Arronado costs so much more and NY would be stuck with the worst of his decline. Nope.
Ranger Suarez for Devin Williams
Given that Alvarado’s suspended for 80 games and the postseason, this could make some sense. The problem IMO from the Phillies perspective (and I’m not a Phillies fan) is Nola’s injury/ineffectiveness, and Williams recent turnaround.
After scrapping plans for Nola to throw off a mound this weekend, he’s definitely going to be on the IL more than the 15-day minimum. Sure, trading Suarez opens up a spot for Painter. But if Nola remains out for a significant period of time they’d still be forced to go with a bullpen game every 5th day. Joe Ross is *definitely* not the answer, and using Strahm as a starter like they did in 2023 hurts the pen. If Nola continues to be ineffective whenever he does return, if the Phillies have traded Suarez, that’s an even bigger problem.
The Phillies would also be trading for Williams as his value is getting higher. This deal might have been easier a month ago.
Williams has recently tossed seven consecutive scoreless innings, His whiff rate is 90th percentile, his K rate is 82nd percentile, the control is getting better, and opponents are (still) flailing at the Airbender. If I’m the Yankees, I also ask the Phillies for a presumably MLB-ready infield prospect like 2B/3B Otto Kemp in the deal.
Austin Riley & Chris Sale
Okay sure the braves randomly decide to trade 2 strong players when they are still contending
AA would definitely make that move!
Me and you have a totally different definition of the word contending.
.809 OPS. Thank goodness Bellinger is a slow starter.
Robert, White Sox.
Careful what you wish for.
Dick Dangler. Be careful with that Dangling Dick!
None of the options given from obvious sellers are worth giving anything up for.
Eugenio Suarez of the D-backs sell. I wanted him in the offseason
Yeah he’s a great fit. And the D Backs have enough infielders they won’t want to sign him after 2025 so he’s as good as gone if they are out of it.
The Yankees have learned from Josh Donaldson and DJ lemahieu, they don’t need another aging infielder
Especially one as streaky as Suarez, he’s a 600 ops bat that is disguised as an 800 ops bat
Lol his OPS is what it is it’s not magic trick. He’s a free agent after 2025. Playing good this year. His age doesn’t matter.
A half season rental wouldn’t be the end of the world. They need something better than what they currently have, and he would provide it.
I don’t think the Yankees would want to use Suarez
I love geno he’s also a great with good vibes only but he kind of looks like mark reynolds right now where he strikes out over 200 times when he’s cold
Funny enough, Miguel Andujar could be an option as well
Gallen and Suarez for Spencer Jones, Will Warren and Ben Hess.
It would take more than that to get a decent pitcher
Probably add Lombard to that too
Yankees want to improve the rotation so your idea is for them to trade a talented cost controlled starter for a worse starter that’s about to be a FA.
👍
If you just want to look at 2025 stats then Kelly would be a better bet. But Gallen has been the better pitcher in the past so obviously the idea would be he bounces back.
I have a feeling the D’Backs have been on the phone taking note on what they could get in a deal right now for Gallen, Suarez, Gurriel, Kelly. They have to find some steady playing time for Lawlar that or trade him in a deal to get them some more top help in the bull pen, because what they have now is not working at all, numbers show they are rank at or near the bottom of bullpens. This season is wasting away little by little, to many one run games that are showing up in the loss column.
Judge has already accrued 4 bWAR, goodness gracious!
Best hitter since bonds and if you don’t count him then best hitter since Willie mays
I take judge over Griffey, Schmidt, Brett
Just ask the Sacramento Athletics for Jacob Wilson. Problem solved.
Why would they deal for a right handed bat when they have Stanton coming back, DJ so far is swinging a good lively bat, Jorbit and Peraza bring youth and defense and need more at bats! What would you mess that up Cashman. Definitely need another starter but this idea that there is a right handed batting third baseman out there that’s a big improvement is not realistic. If trading for Sandy Alcantara is a possibility I’m in even though he doesn’t look close to what he was. Pitching wins and the Yankees need more of it and continue to roll out defense and athletic young players rather then trade for an older guy who’s on the downswing. We have DJ, we don’t need another.
Stanton isn’t that good and always a healthy risk.
Lemahieu isn’t goof anymore too old.
Jorbit and Peraza need at bats? I doubt it.
The picture with the article really shows the sheer masculinity of Brian Cashman. Even while standing he looks like he’s sitting in the cuck chair at the local motel 6. And is upset about the local food delivery options.
That’s deep.
Why do teams still pitch to Judge?
Gathering data for the postseason.
Maybe call the D’Backs who knows maybe a Gurriel, Gallen package say maybe involving Williams and prospects. D’Backs have nothing in the back end of their bullpen.
Suarez would be the guy. Then perhaps a starter like Kelly or Gallen.
How about a hometown reunion of sorts
S Miller

Graceffo
3 former Cardinals and Gorman is from Arizona
Nolan Gorman and Gordon Graceffo have very little value
What do you think those 3 from the Diamomdbacks are worth?
Zac Gallen if he were made available could be the top starter available in seasonp. His era is high but his hits/9 and k/9 are almost exactly where they have been the previous 3 seasons so I fully expect that to be better going forward.
Tons of teams would blow the offer of Gorman who stunk last year and has been worse this year and a mid prospect (Cards #16) out of the water.
Gallen is a rental who is pitching poorly. Gorman is a bounce back candidate and from Arizona. I think the value is pretty similar.
Fans: Nolan Arenado
Front Office: Chris Taylor
Actually: Giancarlo Stanton
Hate to be that guy. 31-20 not 30-21.
Call the Dbacks. For Suarez and Gallen, both FA, and Dbacks can make Lawler the everyday 3B and keep Nelson in the rotation. Everyone wins
The right handed bat is going to be Nolan Arenado. The hold up to a trade — as it’s been for months — is Mozeliak’s reluctance to pay down the remainder of the veteran 3rd baseman’s bloated contract.
Look for a combination of Dominguez and Vivas to head to “the Lou.”
Jasson Dominguez? I don’t think Arenado is being dealt but if Dominguez is available I will drive him to the airport myself.
The main reason for the Cards to trade Arenado is to dump the salary. Why would the Cards eat a bunch of it? He still has value, they don’t want to just get rid of him. And the Yanks aren’t trading Dominquez.
This is the dumbest sounding trade predict ive ever read. Yankees arent going to move a 117 OPS+ for a 95 OPS+ by giving up on their top prospect in half of a year
The crack in the Bronx must be really good.
Not sure what youre implying here, but if youre implying the Yanks should trade Jasson for Arenado and take up that contract to boot youre out of your mind
I don’t think the Yankees need a pitcher or at least not until they solve 3rd. Warren has looked very good recently and Gill, Brubaker, and Stroman are all supposed to be coming back. Since Hal is not looking to blow out the payroll put your money into a righty who can play 3rd.
Gallen and Suarez for Gil could make sense.
It’s the typical Nightengale fluff. Jazz will also be back in about three weeks.
Jazz doesnt fix the two holes in the lineup and he bats left handed so not sure how that negates the need for a right handed bat
@Begamin
The Yankees’ offense is fine. They lead the MLB in OPS, OBP, HR, and are 2nd in runs scored. In pitching, 6th in ERA, 5th in FIP, and 2nd in SO/9. They should keep the prospect capital to address any position of weakness at the trade deadline and that shouldn’t be the offense. No team is giving up an impact offensive player at this point of the season without a premium return.
They lead in those categories because Aaron Judge is going absolutely nuclear. Please dont mistake that for depth. Grisham is likely to come back down to earth, and after the Yanks stop getting cupcake matchups to feast on hitters like Volpe will probably regress to back league average. The lineup once again is incredibly top heavy and you saw how that played out come playoff time. The series to keep an eye on is the upcoming Dodgers one, that will be the true litmus test of the offense, not the Athletics in their bandbox, Colorado with their thin air and lack of defense, or the upcoming series against the Angels.
Is it a bigger need than pitching? No. But is Jazz coming back filling the need for an actual 3B who isnt an automatic out? No. He fills the need for DJLM to go back to the bench
Let’s agree to disagree. Who would you propose to acquire that fits the bill and which prospects would get shipped out?
Well its obviously still a bit too early to see who exactly is available and im not in opposing GM rooms with their scouting reports of Yanks prospects so its not exactly something I can evaluate for you. A dream scenario would be Arenado and Helsley for any combination of guys in the farm not named Spencer Jones or Lombard but I not gonna hold my breath on that happening nor can I weigh in on if its even possible because we have no inside info
So you want to add Arenado’s $27M and Helsley’s $8.2M salary plus pay 110% tax when the team already have two excellent closers in Weaver and Williams? That doesn’t make much fiscal sense when Arenado may only be a marginal improvement at 3B. That’s hardly a dream scenario. Prying Jose Ramirez from Cleveland would be it but that will never happen.
There’s also the issue of Arenado’s NTC and giving up valued prospects which the farm doesn’t have much of. The Cards currently are in 2nd place and one game out of a WC spot.
Hey so its not my money nor am I worried if the Yanks can afford it… so yeah i want that. Yanks need pitching help and elite bullpen arms are important in the playoffs so yes even though theres Weaver and Williams its a big add. Teams are way less likely to trade their ace relative to elite bullpen arms btw. But did you forget how automatic games were after inning 6 with run DMC? I also like how you in the same comment talk about how much of a burden itd be for the Yanks and then insinuate they would need to move their top prospects for it lol
And I’d like to reiterate, its too early to tell whos available as its not obvious what teams are going to be buyers or sellers. You seemed to miss that part when I mentioned Arenado.
jerseyjohn, I agree except I don’t think the Yanks should be expecting much from Stroman when he returns.
Jean: Completely agree Stroman is unlikely to do much. I’d rather count on him for 5 and fly than Carasco or Charlie Liebrandt though.
Edmundo Sosa in Philly should be an everyday player. But we love him in Philly so you can’t have him unless you pay him.
Nightengale doesn’t even bother anymore to cite “an anonymous source” for rumors. Straight up pulling things out of his butt.
He heard it from a team executive, he pinky swears!
Then it must be all true! Sorry, Bob! Your move, Heyman.
First half world beaters but a tired team by September. Same thing every year.
bruce – Do you know who the Dodgers played in last year’s World Series?
Since you have a lot of players that are experienced, how about another broken down player like Trout. Fit right in.
What a garbage article. The Yankees are not bringing in another infielder until DJ proves beyond any doubt that he can’t perform again. Not great in his return but if he can stay healthy then there is no reason he can’t have a Javier Baez like revival.
There is no reason for them to get another starter with Gil coming back. Warren is in the rotation to stay, look at his recent performances.
Some fans are always going to whine. Let the young kids play like Peraza and Vivas (and Pereira) but let’s also trade for an impact 3B. Last time I counted, there are 26 roster spots and 9 fielding positions.
Pick me!!!
– Hunter Renfroe
What do you think it would take to get Mackenzie gore from the nationals??
IMO it’s time for Pereira to come up. It’s now or never. Say good bye to Stanton and DJL do whatever it takes.
Watch the Yankees make a very Cashmanesque move and call his buddy in PITT to grab some combo of IKF or K Hayes and Heaney or Keller depending on what they send back.
IKF and Heaney make the most sense. Both on expiring deals for not too much money that fill a need.
Arias, Beeter and Brenden Jones for Ryan McMahon, The Rockies are one of the only teams that IS already out of it, he’s good enough to make a difference for us but not good enough to cost a ton.
