Mets To Select Jonathan Pintaro

By Anthony Franco | June 24, 2025 at 11:15pm CDT

The Mets will select right-hander Jonathan Pintaro onto the MLB roster, reports Will Sammon of The Athletic. They’ll need to make corresponding active and 40-man roster moves.

Pintaro, 27, has been pitching at Double-A Binghamton this season. He has started all 11 appearances but hasn’t worked a traditional rotation workload, usually going around four innings. He has posted good rate stats, striking out a third of opponents against an 8.8% walk percentage. The Mets had just promoted him to Triple-A on Tuesday but evidently decided they needed him on the big league staff instead. Sammon notes that he’s expected to pitch out of the bullpen, presumably as a low-leverage long reliever.

A product of Division II Shorter University in Georgia, Pintaro went undrafted in 2022. Once he gets into a game, he’ll become the second player in school history (after 1980s reliever Bob Long) to appear in the big leagues. Pintaro began his professional career in the Pioneer League before catching on with the Mets via minor league contract last June.

He combined for a 2.68 ERA with more than a strikeout per inning across 74 frames between three levels to begin his affiliated ball career. Baseball America ranked Pintaro as the #25 prospect in the New York system over the offseason. BA called him a potential depth starter and/or swingman who succeeds by varying hitters’ timing with a five-pitch mix.

Aggressive move by Stearns, hope the kid can make the jump. At 27 years old it’s his time now.

The Mets need a lot, they need a new bullpen (keep Diaz and Butto), a real 3b ( instead of trying to piece it together) a CF (Taylor should be a 4th OF).
Offer Colorado a package of Mauricio,Alvarez and Tidwell for McMahon and Jake Bird.
Baty to the Angels for Jo Adell.
Sign Robertson, Riley and Will Smith, cut Castillo, Lovelady and send Brazoban down.

They needed a lot since day 1, Mets fans just continued to say the sky wasn’t falling and accepted their inflated win record as norm. Outside of Senga, they really don’t have pitching

If Senga is coming back soon, with him, Holmes, Peterson and now Montas they should bring up 1 of the young pitchers at least until they see what happens with Manaea, I don’t want to see Blackburn or Megill starting again and put Canning in the BP

Holmes is throwing more innings than he ever has, and that’s starting to show. I’d be concerned about him going forward. Manaea is the guy they need back the most.

Exactly my thoughts on Holmes. Could not have said it better. Peterson is in the same boat as I think he has only topped a 130 innings on a couple occasions.

Peterson only topped 120 innings… and that high WHIP he has can’t be trusted

Stearns the boy genius, probably will have to trade some young prospects to get some pitching and another bat?

You’re so right; Holmes and Peterson are awful, as is Diaz.

You are wrong on both accounts, Peterson has the same pitch mix as Max Fried, he doesn’t quite have the velo, he doesn’t get as much on his breakers, but he pitches in the same way that Fried does and it’s an effective arsenal.

Holmes has been real good, Sinker, Cutter, Change up against lefties has been an effective approach. He has been good at avoiding the big hit in his righty / lefty matchups, pitches around a lot of lefties but has the sweeper and the slider against righties and gets a lot of K’s.

Two front line starters, both will be good for a while barring injuries.

I just don’t trust them down the stretch. They haven’t exactly pitched more than 100 innings. The issue is more of longevity, especially with Holmes.

The problem is Mendoza; if that doesn’t get changed then all this is just rearranging the deck furniture on the Titanic.

What other business would put a guy in charge with no prior experience after spending billions of dollars.

Oh, wait he sat on the Yankees bench just like Rojas; remember him?

If by rules you mean it makes everyone and everything worse, I guess you’re right. NYC is turning into another marxist hell hole. After decades there my cousin and others are fleeing because it has turned so bad. Crime is up and it won’t be long before the tourism dries up.

    Key problems:

We have never had a dh that worked since dh became a thing. We need a power hitter at dh. A dh that doesn’t bat ninth.

Vientos has to come back solid. No question about that.

They need a center fielder who can hit, not just field.

We need a starting pitcher or two that can pitch beyond 6 innings every time so the bullpen is not blasted every single game. Brazo and reed pitch every night. And it has destroyed them.

We forget that minter was our big arm in the back of the pen and we never replaced that. Nunez has been a huge disappointment.

Once manaea is back, Holmes needs a month IL stint to rest (dead arm). Be off all august, with the heat and then start ramping up again in September.

Blackburn needs to be gone immediately.

One of the real kid pitchers has to get a shot.

Not full panic yet but 100% concern with this roster and play. Hitting has been terrible all year. Shake something up there with the order or coaches or something. Bats have to pick up the pitching now!

@findingnimmo “Shake something up there with the order or coaches or something. Bats have to pick up the pitching now!”

Shake something up there and FIRE Mendoza.

Really it took him 3 batters, and the bases loaded to figure out Brazoban didn’t have it after you have rode him all year and we all know he is spent!

Then you bring in DFA pickup Castillo! Enough said. Mendoza is a joke just like Rojas was. Get a REAL manager

Nice analysis by the way; you were spot on with your list

I live out in Angel land and Adell is no CF and a bad outfielder and other trade talks involving Gilbert; our only hope in CF for the future. crazy.
