Major League Baseball announced the starting lineups for the 2025 All-Star Game this evening. The starting lineups are determined by fan vote. Starting pitchers and reserves, which are determined by a combination of player vote and the league office, will be announced on Sunday evening. Each team will eventually get at least one All-Star. 13 teams had at least one starter. The Dodgers and Tigers — the respective league leaders — were in front with three selections apiece.
The game will be played at Atlanta’s Truist Park on July 15.

Good for my boy O’Hearn what a wild ride he’s had to get to this point.
“MLB Announces 2025 All-Star Starting Hitters”
So MLBTR.
All position players are to be seen and judged on their hitting….particularly their hitting statistics. That’s all that matters.
Team wins don’t matter.
There are so many crummy teams in MLB this year – particularly in the AL. Games are impossible to watch anymore.
The analytic/statistic virus has affected almost all MLB FO’s. Just a few teams still play baseball. It’s rotisserie league for real.
The players just care about pushing their brand. The FO’s just care about making every ballpark into Disneyland.
No one cares about the fans. No one.
Hey listen, I see the point you’re making here and I get it. In my opinion the all star game is about rewarding outstanding play for the players (whether we agree with some of the fan voting or not) and allowing the fans to see all of the best players (hopefully) in one spot jumbled together across two teams just to see what happens. Do I think fans should have a say in said voting process? No, not really. We have a tendency to play favorites hence the fan label. But as long as its a glorified scrimmage and some arguably deserving folks are getting the nod. I wont complain about what is essentially a for fan experience. Mainly I only tune in for the homerun derby but thats just me. Long story short in my opinion, the fans are voting for all of the position/dh players yes? Pitching gets determined by the players and the commissioners office correct? So if you’re getting the absolute best pitchers to go against, better choose the best damn hitters you can find, defense be damned in a scrimmage lol.
No, team wins should not matter at all. Why should a player be punished for being stuck on a bad team? This is not basketball, where one superstar can make a team a contender.
Rockies have the least amount of $ allocated into an analytic department in the whole MLB. Look how that’s working. Team wins don’t matter for all star games because it’s about the players. It’s to reward PLAYERS for outstanding play (most of the time) no correlation to team stats. No one cares about the fans? The fans literally get to decide the starters of the game based off their votes as a whole.. There’s no way possible the fans could be MORE involved.
Samuel
There are so many crummy teams in MLB this year – particularly in the AL.
=====================
I have no idea what you are onto here. There is more parity today than 25 years ago. Right now, we have 6 teams below .450. In 2000, we had 8 teams below .450. That’s the nature of the numbers. Not every team can be above .500.
IRT the AS game, it’s just entertainment. If the fans ignore defense in their voting, well, that’s the way it’s always been. “HR hitters drive Cadillacs” was a saying a long, long time ago.
Great point, Joe.
To add onto that, I think the technology and scouting has improved to the point where these front offices are essentially in an arms race with one another, constantly making adjustments in an attempt to keep up. The result is relative homogeneity in the standings and improved parity (not brought on by artificially introduced pressures, as in basketball). This, I believe, indicates baseball is at a relatively healthy point.
Moreover, I think it explains why we have recently seen teams that are inexplicably awful in consecutive years (2024 White Sox, 2025 Rockies). When the organization is behind the curve, it really shows given how most franchises have kept pace with one another
@ Samuel
“No one cares about the fans. No one.”
No one cares about fans with your attitude. Fixed it for you.
Lindor over Elly and Turner is certainly a choice.
I can understand Lindor over Turner, but it should have been De la Cruz. But that’s what you get when the fans decide. There’s far more Mets; fans that Reds’ fans.
Bingo.
The National League certainly has some good shortstops with Lindor, Turner, De La Cruz, and Abrams. No doubt some others, as well, like Betts when he plays the position.
SS is the only position Mookie Betts has played this season
That still just blows my mind, maybe even more than Ohtani being elite at pitching and hitting.
An MVP, First-ballot tracking, championship right fielder is willing and ABLE to play shortstop on the best team in baseball as he’s approaching his mid-30’s.
Like we’ve seen power hitting corner outfields being able to play first base and sometimes third, but for that level of player to just go out and play shortstop is insane.
Mookie hurts his ability to start the all star game by being such an excellent team player.
Jean Matrac
but it should have been De la Cruz.
=============================
Lindor has a slightly better OPS+ and is a much better fielder.
JoeBrady,
BB Ref has both with a 125 OPS+.
Compare their respective Statcast pages:
baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/elly-de-la-cr…
baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/francisco-lin…
And you can see that, yes Lindor is the much better fielder, but you can also see that it still should have been De La Cruz.
Every year people say someone over Lindor and by the end of the year Lindor is the best shortstop in the NL and it’s not usually close.
You said it yourself, end of the year. We’re going off first half stats to which Lindor is currently inferior to de la Cruz and Turner.
de la Cruz – 3.2 WAR. Turner – 2.9 WAR. Lindor – 2.8 WAR. Stop acting like this is the crime of the century. The difference between them all is negligible. Lindor is a fine choice.
Oh no, here comes the WAR worshippers to whitewash all the other relevant stats…
… but not the right one. Elly is the most exciting player in the game today. Lindor is fine, but I’d take Trey over him too.
to whitewash all the other relevant stats…
=================
Lindor has a better OPS and is a better fielder.
Are hitting and fielding no longer ‘relevant stats’?
Ok bub, now you’re just being delusional. Elly has the better OPS, as well hits, HR, RBI, SB, BA, OBP, SLG. Are you a Mets fan perchance?
RS fan. OPS+ takes out Elly’s home field advantage.
More like a joke. But the large markets always get their way.
Let’s talk about the Oakland A of West Sac starting at short for the AL. Is the AL that weak at SS?
Baez over about 25 other AL outfielders is pretty wild if you ask me. Who in the office pool had Javy Baez 2025 All Star?
One of the worst contracts in recent history!
Copper hill – Not so fast… that contract is still in the midst and could be redeemed very quickly in the postseason. Baez was injured and now he’s not and it’s pretty obvious he didn’t just forget how to play.
@TBV I 100% agree
I guess I’m confused. He’s hitting well, playing gold glove defense on a division leader, and is comeback player of the year. Seems he’s pretty deserving?
If it’s starting CF for the AL team, Buxton and J-Rod have had a better numbers in the box.
It’s more about ballot stuffing than who’s having the best season at a given position.
Both are on miserable teams. Baez is playing a new position. It’s an exhibition game and he’s a great story. If he was having an awful year it wouldn’t even be a conversation
J-Rod is barely over replacement level. When will you folks realize J-Rod isn’t as good as you think he is?
I can understand saying J-Rod’s bat is overrated, but if we’re going to reference replacement level … he’s 3rd in the league in fWAR among center fielders, 2nd in the league by bWAR. Barely above replacement level would be Myles Straw
What are you talking about? Julio Rodriguez has a 3.6 WAR which leads all AL CF.
2nd in baseball in bWAR behind only PCA who is in the NL.
The whole AL team is looking weak. Gleybor Torres? Javier Baez? Any Oakland A? I can’t believe this is Cal Raleigh’s first go.
Saw this coming after his surgery..great story!
@falconsball1993 I should have worded my original post better. What I was going for was I’m surprised he won the voting. Everyone wrote him off years ago and the fans could have voted for Trout or something (like Acuna in NL) when they haven’t played for a good portion of the year, yet Baez actually gets the votes and the starting nod.
Tip of the cap to Gleyber Torres, he changed his approach at the plate and transformed into a different hitter. More walks than strikeouts!
He just needed a change of scenery!
Tip of the hat to Harris, the Tigers POBO, for signing Torres. I hated the move at the time, but it has worked out. Hopefully Keith will be able to handle 3B.
Baez is having his first decent season in years, but starting in CF for the AL All-Stars? Come on.
Pete – Yeah, he played a phenomenal CF for a good chunk of the season and he has been a very productive hitter playing on the best team in the league.
I’m happy for him.
Gleyber actually used the same approach in 2023 with the Yankees and saw similar success. I feel like he was pressing in 2024 for more power and thus lost that approach.
Gleyber’s problem, much like Gallo, Volpe, Jazz, etc, is very much Gleyber. Completely selling out for pull power and can’t hit anything else.
Now, could it be the influence of good coaching and accountability (Hinch) versus the coddling and “A-for-Effort” acceptance of mediocrity (Boone)? Yeah, I think that’s a part of it too.
Pull power wins games, though.
Hammering, absolutely right….. when they actually connect. It’s the Yankees hitting in a nutshell – score 12 runs or can’t score at all. Problem in the playoffs is that the pitching is much better, so they don’t often get the homers.
Clip, I tell people all the time with certain guys it’s a between the ears problem too. I saw it a lot in the minors, especially with pitchers.
Some guys never get past that. Good coaching certainly helps if the player takes to it. Sometimes just a different voice does it.
Good on Armstrong!
Betts has a higher WAR on fielding. Lindor has the better bat, this year.
And everyone really knows Betts isn’t even close to a fielder as Lindor at shortstop.
“everyone”
lol
baseballsavant.mlb.com/leaderboard/outs_above_aver…
Well tells you defensive stats are not the greatest measurement and need to be worked on. Nobody in this world would start Betts at shortstop if Lindor was on his team. You can say whatever you want but you know that it’s true.
Lindor is a great ball player.
Happy now?
He is a great player. Will probably end up a top 5 shortstop of all time. Betts is a great player. One of the best outfielders of all time.
Try to keep up with current reality.
Or maybe Betts has just been a better fielder this season.
Of course they wouldn’t but that’s like saying the New Orleans Saints wouldn’t start Taysom Hill at QB when they have Drew Brees. (Not a 1:1 comparison, but the point stands)
Lindor is a shortstop. He’s played the position his entire big league career going on 11 seasons.
Betts was drafted a second baseman, came up as second baseman, and moved to the outfield early in his career.
One is a shortstop by trade and the other is an infielder-turned outfielder-turned infielder again.
Wonderful amount of talent! Gonn be a good game.
Vlad and Acuna lol.
Who would you pick over Vlad as a 1st baseman in the American League.
Yandy Diaz.
Jonathan Aranda on the Rays
I’ll say this about Vlad, anytime you take nearly as many walks as you strike out, you have my attention. I’m trying to remember the last great player to retire with more walks than strikeouts, I know Chipper Jones (as a fellow 3rd bagger one of my faves) did, but its increasingly rare if not damn near impossible to find guys who walk more than they strikeout.
Todd Helton is a slightly more recent member of that club.
Good ole Todd “Highway to” Helton, The Toddfather, one of my favorite players and definitely my favorite Rockies guy, which is wild when you account for guys like Walker, Castilla, Galarraga and Holliday.
Barry Bonds
Its pretty crazy that over a quarter of those were intentional too.
Nothing Bonds ever did counts. That is what cheating does for you, makes everyone except the total idiots write off everything you did as just a PED user’s stats.
For me I would really agree with you, however that would also allow the MLB to profit while claiming ignorance to the fact that he used PED’s. Its one of those things that I grapple with, if you destroy the career this career or another user of PED’s had, all of his work and reputation is destroyed and discredited. But what happens to the MLB? They already profited off of said player so why should they care? And that doesn’t seem fair to me. Like if theres no actual indication that a guy used, I could understand, but when theres rumors, speculation, testimony etc. and you sit there and do nothing about it, then everyone deserves to be brought low. Not just the players.
All of his work and reputation is destroyed and discredited. That MLB paid no price for looking the other way when he cheated because it made them money is immaterial.
He was the one that chose to cheat.
No, it all counts. Most of the league were using PEDs at that time.
What are you talking about? He’s the greatest hitter of all time and was a great player before ever taking anything.
Personally I levy blame to both sides, theres plenty of wrong to go around. You can’t absolve one side or the other of wrongdoing in my opinion. I don’t regard Bonds as one of the greats personally after the discoveries post career. But I also regard the MLB as a trash organization during those periods that allowed such things to happen with no remorse or penalty to those that used. I think realistically, the way the general public probably views those times will ultimately prove to be for the best. I imagine a lot of folks in general still hold some purity for records, myself included. I.E. Hank Aaron is still the HR King. All I’m really saying is equal blame and responsibility needs to be held.
I think we can probably all agree that he would’ve been a HoF’er without any PEDs. But at the same time we can only guess at when he started using them based on visual body composition changes. It’s definitely not an easy thing to gauge when we are outside of those who are in the know.
scruffmcgruff,
It’s fairly well documented that Bonds started using PEDs after Sosa and McGwire in 1998, clear inferior players, garnered all the attention with their HR race to break Maris’ single season record.
Unless all were, it doesn’t count. We have no clue how many were using PED, but we know for sure that Bonds was.
Nothing he did counts because we don’t know when he started using PED, we just know he DID use PED. Much like Arod who we found out started using them when with Seattle. Nothing he did in his career counts.
It doesn’t matter what MLB did or didn’t do to prevent PED usage. They were not only against the rules of baseball, they were illegal for players to possess or use. Using them made that player not only someone that was cheating and therefore taking money out of the pockets of those who were not cheating, but also a criminal. 100% its on the PLAYER who used them.
NOTHING Bonds did in his career counts because we don’t know when he started using PED, only that he absolutely DID use PED.
No. We can’t agree on that because we don’t know when he started using PED. It very well could have been in Pittsburgh and he only got better at using them when Balco got involved with his PED regimen. So no. He is not a HOF player. Period. End of conversation.
Only someone so biased as to let subjective feelings interfere with the facts, writes posts like yours.
By Canseco’s own account, McGwire started injecting steroids, with Canseco’s help, in Oakland. In McGwire’s 1st 8 full seasons, ’87 through ’94, ages 23 through 30, he had a 143 OPS+. Over his last 7 seasons, ages 31 through 37, his OPS+ was 183.
By comparison Bonds, in his first 9 full seasons, ’87 through ’95, ages 22- 30, his OPS+ was 163. Clearly a better hitter than McGwire. That’s in keeping with his next 4 seasons, ’96-’99, ages 31-34, when McGwire’s OPS+ jumped. Following the McGwire/Sosa heralded HR race, Bonds in the last 8 seasons of his career, ages 35-42, his OPS+ was 221.
It should be obvious to you when Bonds started using, or at least started reaping the benefits, from the use PEDs, and the instigation of that use If not then you’re more biased, or obtuse than I thought.
Also remember that the Mitchell report, naming 89 players came one single witness, Kirk Radomski. He later stated that he supplied nearly 300 MLB players with steroids. Logic should tell you that if the market was that robust, Radomski wasn’t the only source of PEDs for players.
That’s not counting Clemens, who tried to limit exposure by using a single guy, Brian McNamee. That didn’t work. I hate Clemens probably more than you hate Bonds. I’ve met several MLB players, and former players, Some were exceeding nice, like Jim Davenport, an unbelievably nice guy.. Others like Orlando Cepeda, and Ellis Burks, were friendly and polite. Clemens was one of the biggest jerks I’ve ever met in my life, not limited to baseball. But despite my loathing, and detestation of Clemens, he still belongs in the HoF. Because he, like Bonds, were simply leveling the playing field, since 90% of the pitchers and batters they faced were also juicing.
For my part I just wish there was more of a mark against the MLB as an organization during this time. Most of the court of public opinion is going to be completely against those who used PED’s, and rightfully so. It just irks me a bit when I see only the individual players be the patsy, while other folks in the league reap the benefits with little to no ramifications. Admittedly I’m probably more annoyed that one of my favorite players (Palmeiro) was also involved. I do think the casual and hardcore fans opinion of those times will prove to be true though, it may not be as substantial as a physical or notated mark against both the league and players that were involved in those practices, but at least in the circles of fans they will take those follies into consideration when they judge those times. At least thats what I hope.
C’MON MAN! How you going leave out Gar?
The greatest hitter of all time in the roid era and never had a link to the juice.
And better than Bonds and Helton.
baseball-reference.com/players/m/martied01.shtml
In my defense I swear Edgar Martinez was just a hit machine, no way was that guy mere flesh and blood lol.
Oh but he was a hit/walk machine and he was also less.
He did all that he did, with only 1 eye!
seattlepi.com/news/article/at-39-edgar-sees-contin…
Still don’t know why Mo Vaughn took home the MVP in 95 over Gar, Belle & Randy.
Well I do but C’MON MAN, 39 jacks & 126 RBIs, 10 & 13 more than Edgar sealed the race for Vaughn?
Edgar had more games with less at bats and still smoked him in every category that mattes besides HR/RBI but Mo didn’t run away in those stats anyway.
And Mo led league in SO w/150 vs Edgars 86!
The east coast bias doomed both Mariner players that yr. Don’t know why Belle was snubbed but Mo definitely was not the MVP in 95 and he was on the Juice.
Were they crying about the strike so they decided to pull a name out of a hat for the MVP??
Who fills out the rest of the team?
Player voting, the league and the managers of the teams.
James Wood should be starting over Acuna. De La Cruz should be starting over Lindor. Javi Baez bats 9th for the Tigers, I have no clue how he made the all star team
James Wood was so robbed
Is team is terrible that definitely effects voting
Baez is playing a gold glove defense, hitting damn good, and is comeback player of the year.
Comeback is as much about the hole you started in as anything else. All-Star is only about the recent performance. For this award Baez should be measured by his performance, not his progress. That can come later, after he sat at home and watched Buxton play CF in this game.
Whomever the fans voted for should be starting. That is the purpose of the game.
Wrong. The purpose of the game is to recognize the players having the best seasons. Not the teams with the most votes to get their players in.
The fans did exactly that, by voting for their favorite players, all STARS, not all STATS.
So proud of Jack Wilson’s son. I coached Jack in soccer one year in T Oaks. He was 10 or 11 years old and was the most coordinated kid by far.
A natural talent.
Thats really cool – I have a feeling this won’t be Jacob’s last all star appearance
Javy Baez getting a starting OF spot is so funny, I love it.
All of that money to Juan Soto and he’s not even all star starter.
“Generational talent.” lmao
How much would Acuña get on the open market? Tucker is about to make a killing too.
Slow start with new team/pressure. Sadie yiu see his June numbers? He’s a future HOF, no question.
*Did you*
@DarrenDreifortsContract
He never was. Decent player but not an all-star.
He’s easily an All-Star and a future Hall of Famer. Decent player, LOL!!!
Are you really stupid enough to think that fan voting determines if a player is a generational talent?
Lindor! LGM!
The dynamic between Dave Roberts and Manny will be interesting. In the battles between Dodgers and Padres Manny has been quite agressive.
Throwing the ball nearly hitting Dave in the dugout.
LOL, Manny tossed it toward the dugout and it bounced a couple times. Dave Roberts was scared.
LMAO. He tosses the ball into the dugout as he is supposed to do, 8-10 feet away from Roberts where players throw the ball hundreds of times per season and that is nearly hitting him? Ok, Only a Dodger fan.
Tigers have three starters! Midwest bias in full effect. /s
Congrats Tigers fans!
After their long rebuild and false starts, they’ve finally come out of it and have a good chance to end the regular season as the American League’s best.
And they actually have a better win percentage against out of division opponents, so it’s not like their wins can be discounted on a soft home division.
They are legit! Good days in Detroit for sure.
They are young and should be really good for long time.
They should have the starting pitcher too
And unfortunately for Gleyber he gets to be managed by Aaron Boone for another game 🙂
I wonder how many of these guys will opt out of the game. None, I hope, but that seems unlikely.
Most of the guys that opt out have some nagging ailment that doesn’t keep them from playing in games that count, but benefit from getting a few days rest.
Cal Raleigh, huh? Mariners fans must have really come out in droves to vote for him. I would look into those ballots a bit more, seems sketch.
Who would you have voted for over Raleigh???
I think you need to learn sarcasm.
Is there something wrong with you?!
His name checks out.
ISOB=Mariner fan flex
He’s obviously joking.
Just like I predicted in spring training: Javy Baez starting CF in the All-Star Game . . .
Who you like in the 3rd at Saratoga on Friday, Charlie? Ahahahahahaha!
That is a claimer. Take Over and Ollie. but don’t put much on him. There are 5, maybe 6 horses entered in that race that have a legit shot of winning.
In the 8th, the Manila Stakes, Zulu Kingdom is the heavy favorite but I think his stable mate Uncatalyzed has a shot at upsetting him. I really like the jockey at that distance on grass. If you want to go with a little longer odds, Capitol Hill who is trained by Bill Mott, gets John Velasquez this race, and was stuck wide in his last race on turf at 1 3/16 mile at Keeneland and still finished 4th.
@ outinleftfield
I know it is, I was being facetious -kinda, sorta – appreciate your analysis though. It’s gonna be another big, beautiful meet at the Spa.
Its one of my favorite 4th of July racing events. 3 days of great racing.
Over and Ollie did take the 3rd and paid 8.90. Uncatalyzed was scratched and Zulu Kingdom was just too much for that field in the Manila. Capitol Hill did make a nice charge at the end to place just 3/4 of a length back though. Keep an eye on that horse when he has John Velasquez riding him.
Who gets a louder cheer when the bring out the starting lineups? Freddie Freeman or Ronald Acuna Jr?
Freeman will probably be booed. Freeman should have been a lifetime Brave.
Freeman was given a nice ovation at Truist Park in May. But you’d have to be paying attention to know that.
It’s the All Star game and not a regular season game. I’m sure they will love his Dodger uniform in Atlanta for an all star game especially this season.
It’s New York fans who go in for that sort of display.
Sure, I’ve only gone to about 50 Braves home games. I’m sure you would have been ecstatic if Kershaw left the Dodgers and was an all star for a different team at Dodger stadium.
@Mets Era there is zero chance Freddie gets booed at the AS game. Zilch. It’s not NY. I’m sure if Pete had left this offseason, made the AS team and if the game was in NY he’d catch a C battery in the head. That ain’t happening in Atlanta. The uniform makes absolutely no difference. He’s on the NL team, was a WS champion with the Braves and Braves fans are smart enough to realize that. We’re perfectly fine with a younger Olson as our first baseman and we still love and appreciate Freddie.
Why do you all keep saying it’s not NY? You didn’t boo him for years? I’m sure it felt great watching him win the World Series with the Dodgers last year instead of the Braves winning it. I bet you’ll be even happier when he puts a Dodger cap on for his hall of fame ceremony.
Cynicism becomes you.
The Braves didn’t want him for some reason
Then they shouldn’t have shown him the door for a younger player
Baez makes a mockery of fan voting…
The Tigers sharing the best record in MLB has energized their fanbase. Fan voting is working as intended.
@Provost
Fan votes are mostly a joke.
OY: The game itself is as well
@SteveC
True…
The game is an exhibition for the fans. voting worked as its supposed to.
@outinleftfield, you nailed it! The game is an exhibition for the fans to watch their “favorite” players play together. The remainder of the roster will be made up with players who are having good years
Steven Kwan?
Baez has a OPS+ of 120. Solid defense everywhere he plays. I don’t understand the hate. Maybe you don’t watch baseball?
Actually, the fan voting today is generally way better than it was years ago, despite the occasional mistakes.
Baez starting is absurd. All star game has lost all credibility for me
Really? *this* is what makes you mad?
And oh by the way…
Did you seriously have some high esteem for fan voted all star starters in the past?
There isn’t a glut of great AL OFs this year like years past. And the fans got a lot right too, like SS Wilson.
It’s not like it’s NBA-level absurdity.
Best team in each league has 3 starters in AS Game. Seems about right — and how it usually shakes out every yr.
I also disagree with Wilson starting at short
Every year Jeter was in the All Star game even with no good numbers
It’s debatable, but I wouldn’t say absurd. Gold glove defense at a new position, hitting well, and on best team in baseball.
It’s absurd when Buxton is having the year he is having. He has been much better.
And Buxton should also get some comback boost for just being on the field for 80% of the games.
It’s an exhibition. How much credibility does it need?
Jacob Wilson!
Bobby Witt Jr was robbed again. Voters need to stop using strictly BA as a voting metric.
Jacob Wilson has a 138 wRC+.
Bobby Witt Jr. has a 123 wRC+
Offensively, Wilson is far better this season.
Overall, though, Wilson has a fWAR of 2.9 to Witts 4.0.
Witt is getting a lot more steals and is better defensively and is overall a simply better player.
Jacob is in a slump, his numbers were around .360 a week or so ago
And people really need to stop getting so upset over who starts an EXHIBITION game with no real meaning other than who the fans want to see.
I hate everything about Oakland-Sacramento-Vegas, but I have 0 issue with Wilson winning out over Witt Jr. Makes up for the fact that Rooker got screwed at DH imo
Prediction:
Kyle Tucker will sign with the Yankees for $50 million more than the Cubs’ best offer.
He will be a Dodger.
He’ll sign with the Pirates.
I am not being a homer here, but Hunter Goodman of the Rockies deserves the starting gig over Will Smith. The only thing Smith has on Goodman is BA and being on a much better team. Goodman leads all NL catchers is almost every category. Hopefully he at least gets the backup job.
Javy Baez over Byron Buxton is an egregious miss
Buxton has a 3 WAR. Baez has a 2 WAR. It’s debatable sure, but it certainly isn’t egregious. Baez is playing gold glove defense at new position, on the best team in AL. It counts for something.
Is this a lifetime achievement award for Baez? His stats would be respectable for a 4th outfielder.
120ops+ and a 2.2 war is 4th OF level? Weird comment.
Good stats for sarcasta-bowl but in the real world hypothetical results aren’t what determine who wins the game.
Seriously bring back steroids
.500 teams in 1998 had better lineups than this
On a side note, Judge and Ohtani are guaranteed to start the All-Star Game as they got the most votes in their respective leagues.
No Angels? Rotflmfao
Angels have almost a full lineup of “their” own #1 Draft Picks! Not traded for or free agents..#1 Draft picks They will get theirs! They must have good scouts!
I was being sarcastic. With the injuries to Neto and Neto and Trout early we really didn’t deserve to have anyone voted as a starter. Maybe next year.
When it’s a fan vote every deserves what they get, also team success counts alot. Will’s team is the best in MLB and Colorado 30 games back.
Did any of the Braves team Doctors get any votes?
Strange that the starting CF for the AL hasn’t started a game in CF since June 1st and spent almost the entire last month playing exclusively at SS…
It’s crazy how many people are complaining about Lindor getting the start and saying it’s the big market stuffing the ballot. That is not at all a core tenant of the Mets fan base and if you look over recent years that much is clear. The Mets almost never have more than 2 players in the game and rarely have anybody starting. As a Mets fan I’m not saying we deserved a lot more I’m just saying for a large market team we have not had much representation at the game over the years.
Who’s complaining? I am a Dodger fan and I know Lindor deserves the honor.
There were several early comments about how it should have been Turner or De La Cruz, and that Lindor got it because of big market ballot stuffing. I’m not even arguing player merits because both of them could have (especially Cruz). I just felt like I had to out my 2 cents in when I saw people saying it was just because of the big market effect.
Everyone’s a critic. There are always multiple valid choices.
It’s not that black and white. I was one of those that said it should have been De La Cruz, but that’s only as the starter. Clearly Lindor belongs on the AS roster.
And since Lindor is AS worthy, the sheer majority of Mets’ fans to Reds’ fans is significant giving him the start. Mets’ fans are being defensive. Arguing that the Mets’ fans as a whole were just being objective in making Lindor the starter is ignoring the obvious.
It’s disingenuous to say that fans don’t vote for their favorite team’s players when they’re having a good enough season to be considered. Think that Dodgers’ fans wouldn’t have voted in big numbers for Tommy Edman if he was in the top 3, or 4 among 2B?
I could argue Judge and Raleigh are the only AL players that would make the NL roster.
The Astros just won 5 out of 6 games against the best SP’s of two of your 3 divisions leaders. Maybe “players” aren’t the most important thing.
That’s impossible for the Astros to have beaten my divisions leaders.
I’m weird with my all star votes. It’s definitely a “respect the integrity of the game thing.” Even if someone’s having a great first half, I prefer the proven star who’s having just a slightly worse year. Also, the stats they provide for the voting should simply include WAR. To that effect, I was voting for Pena over Wilson, Buxton over Baez (sorry buddy!). Yet despite my standards, I was still voting for James Wood.
Peña is solid but I went with Wilson because it’s nice to see the clear cut leader for the Rookie of the Year award be included in the All Star game.
He would’ve been included anyway.
With the 3rd best record in all of baseball you’d think the Astros would have at least one player selected. Pena and Meyers have had all-star caliber production so far. I get it that we’re not done yet.
The game has evolved into an exhibition for fans to watch their FAVORITE players play together. That is the intent of the game. Seeing people get all worked up over an exhibition game is ridiculous
It’s more than just an exhibition game. It’s recognition for players having a good season. BB Ref lists AS appearances with things like GGs, SSs, and MVP votes. When players go into the HoF the number of AS appearances is listed among the player’s accomplishments. Saying it’s just an exhibition games puts it on par with ST games, or games between an MLB team and their AAA affiliate. It doesn’t count in the stats, or standings, but it’s clearly more than just an exhibition game.
