As the playoffs continue, here are three things for MLBTR readers to keep an eye on today:
1. ALDS resumes:
Game 3 of the ALDS is today, with the Yankees and Blue Jays headed to New York while the Mariners and Tigers head to Detroit. For the Yankees, today could be the club’s last stand as they face elimination. Carlos Rodon (3.09 ERA) will take the mound for the club opposite Toronto righty Shane Bieber (3.57 ERA in seven starts). In Detroit, the Tigers will be hoping to take a lead over the Mariners after Seattle managed to tie the series in a game started by Tarik Skubal on Sunday. This time around, Jack Flaherty (4.64 ERA) is on the bump for Detroit against Seattle right-hander Logan Gilbert (3.44 ERA). The Mariners and Tigers are set to play at 4:08pm local time at Comerica Park, while the Blue Jays and Yankees will square off at 8:08pm local time in the Bronx.
2. Rays ownership introductory presser:
The Rays’ new ownership group has officially taken over for longtime owner Stu Sternberg, though Sternberg remains in the fold as a minority stakeholder. Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times notes that an introductory press conference for the new owners is scheduled to take place at 11:30am local time later today. Patrick Zalupski, the managing partner and co-chair of the organization, will be in attendance alongside new co-chair Bill Cosgrove and new CEO Ken Babby. Per the Rays, the conference will be viewable for fans on the Rays’ YouTube channel among other local options. While personnel changes on the baseball operations side of organization currently appear unlikely, fans will still surely be curious to see if the new owners will be altering the club’s budget going forward. It’s also possible there will be notable updates on the Rays’ stadium situation.
3. MLBTR chat today:
The postseason is underway, and just eight teams remain in the fight as the Division Series continues in both leagues. The rest of MLB is already looking ahead to 2026, with a number of managerial vacancies (plus a GM vacancy in Colorado) yet to be filled. Whether your team is still in the hunt or you’re already turning your attention towards the offseason free agent and trade markets, MLBTR’s Steve Adams has you covered in a live chat at 1pm CT later today. You can click here to ask a question in advance, join in live once the chat begins, or read the transcript once the chat is complete.

3 series 2-0… Does any team come back to win 3-2??
Philly is in a brutal spot. They’re down 0-2 and now they have to go on the road. At least the Cubs and Yanks have the chance to bounce back at home.
I like the Yankees in Yankee stadium, and the Jays have not traveled well this season. I could see them sending the series to 5 and then who knows.
The Cubs feel like long shots, and the Phils feel like no shots, so I’d have to go with the Yankees as the most likely for a come back.
Not saying they will, but they feel the most likely to do it.
Odds makers agree with also Canuckleball… tough but doable…
You’re talking about home field advantage while at the same time noting that the Phillies just lost two games at home (with what’s generally regarded as the biggest home field advantage in ball.)
All that is to say: maybe home field advantage doesn’t mean so much? Or at least not vs the dodgers? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@olmtiant
Iirc the nats did it to lad back in 19, and bos did in the alcs in 04. So it does happen just incredibly rare
Down 0-3 happened only once of course… 2004 Red Sox… but down 0-2 and win 3-2 has actually happened 10 times… Yankees pulling it off last .. I agree teams coming home Yankees, Cubs have much better shot than Phillies having to win 2 in LA just for the chance… I would actually be surprised IF one team doesn’t do it….
Didn’t realize nyy was the last to do it I went with wash because I remember that one. I also don’t follow the al as much as the nl
Small correction but the Tigers lost the Skubal game Sunday and won the Melton game Saturday. Tigers & Mariners shaping up to be a dramatic series!!! Go Tigers.
The “they” in that sentence was referring to the Mariners. He was saying the Tigers are looking to take a lead after they (the Mariners) won game 2.
I noticed that too. As Canuck pointed out, the writer probably had the Mariners in mind as “they” in that sentence even though as written it sounds like it would be the Tigers.
Looking at the byline, the writer is the usual suspect for garbled writing at MLBTR.
Detroit Seattle looks like the only series that could go 5
Of course I’m a homer so take this with a grain of salt but I believe the Mariners will break out the offense in games 3 and 4 and lock it up. Facing Skubal 3 times already is good enough for one calendar year. Hoping the Mariners tune into the vibe and mentality they had when they came into Detroit before the All-Star break and swept Tigers in a very lopsided manner.
So is Bryce Harper officially a player in decline now?? The dude has seen his best days ???
No. Look at his bref advanced stats and savant stats. Hard hit % and EV are in line with his career. He’s dealt with some wrist issues this year and hit more groundballs.
Detroit, and playoffs, starting to sound like peas and carrots. A very successful season Detroit. They did not sell the farm at the trade deadline, and they get the perfect evaluator for next season with another trip through the playoffs. 2 big playoff games in Detroit is huge. Temperatures are above normal and the house will want to return the noise they’ve heard in Cleveland and Seattle. GO TIGERS !
Long rain delay at Comerica Park, so first pitch for the Mariners-Tigers Game 3 is now at 7 PM EDT/4 PM PDT. Telecast moved to FS2 and MLB Network with streaming on Fox One.
