Hoops Rumors Has The Latest On NBA Draft, Free Agency

By Rory Maher | June 23, 2025 at 8:54am CDT

We’re heading into the busiest time of the year for the NBA, and our sister site Hoops Rumors (@HoopsRumors on Twitter) has all the latest news, rumors and transactions for each of the league’s 30 teams.

Eight days ago, the Magic and Grizzlies completed a blockbuster trade. And yesterday afternoon, the Suns agreed to trade 15-time All-Star Kevin Durant to the Rockets in exchange for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the 10th pick in the 2025 draft, and five second-rounders.

Last night, the Thunder capped off their historically dominant regular season by winning an NBA championship after a thrilling seven-game series against Indiana. Oklahoma City’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander won his first MVP award this season and claimed Finals MVP as well.

The underdog Pacers had one of the most memorable playoff runs in NBA history but fell one win short of their goal. Unfortunately, star point guard Tyrese Haliburton sustained an Achilles injury in the first quarter of Game 7, and his status for next season is now uncertain.

Today, teams can begin negotiating with their own free agents — LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and James Harden are the most accomplished players expected to stay put. Next Monday, June 30, is when teams can start negotiating with free agents from other clubs.

The NBA draft is later this week, taking place over two days – Wednesday and Thursday – for the second straight year. The first two picks (Cooper Flagg, Dylan Harper) seem like foregone conclusions, but there’s plenty of uncertainty about how things will unfold starting at No. 3.

Arguably the biggest question mark hanging over the offseason is the future of two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo. While he hasn’t given any indication that he intends to request a trade out of Milwaukee, reports have stated that possibility can’t be ruled out.

For the latest NBA updates on trades, free agency and the draft, check out Hoops Rumors today! There will be a whirlwind of activity over the next couple of weeks as teams reshape their rosters for next season, and we’ll be covering it all. You can also follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Bluesky.

Follow Hoops Rumors For The Latest On The NBA Trade Deadline

By Rory Maher | January 31, 2025 at 9:40pm CDT

The NBA trade deadline is six days away (February 6 at 2:00pm CT), and our sister site Hoops Rumors has all the latest news and rumors for each of the league’s 30 teams!

There have been five in-season trades so far in 2024/25, and several more are sure to follow in the coming days. In ’23/24, there were a total of 27 in-season trades, with 18 officially completed on deadline day alone. This year could be just as action-packed!

There is no shortage of clubs who will be looking to improve their chances of making a deep playoff run, including top spenders like the Suns and Bucks. Teams with aging stars like the Warriors and Lakers are typically worth monitoring as well (both have already completed trades in ‘24/25).

Five-time All-NBA forward Jimmy Butler is the most accomplished player currently available on the trade market, but he’s not the only former All-Star, as De’Aaron Fox, Zach LaVine, Nikola Vucevic, Khris Middleton, Bradley Beal and Brandon Ingram have also popped up in trade rumors. Given that most of those players are on maximum-salary contracts, there’s a chance that some of them could be traded for each other.

Follow NBA Free Agency At Hoops Rumors

By Rory Maher | June 29, 2024 at 6:15pm CDT

NBA teams can begin negotiating with outside free agents on Sunday evening at 5:00 p.m. CT, and our sister site Hoops Rumors (@HoopsRumors on Twitter) has all the latest news, rumors and transactions for each of the league’s 30 teams.

For the first time in 2024, NBA teams were permitted to negotiate with their own free agents one day after the NBA Finals ended (the Celtics won their 18th championship on June 17). That’s why several of 2024’s top free agents — including Pascal Siakam (Pacers), OG Anunoby (Knicks) and Immanuel Quickley (Raptors) —  have already agreed to new contracts.

However, there are some huge names heading for unrestricted free agency, including LeBron James, James Harden, Paul George, DeMar DeRozan, and Klay Thompson. James is widely expected to return to the Lakers; there hasn’t been much news about Harden, but the Clippers hope to re-sign him; George’s future is unclear after spending the past five years with the Clippers; there has been “growing buzz” that DeRozan won’t be back with the Bulls; and the Warriors are reportedly preparing for Thompson’s departure after he spent his first 13 years with Golden State, winning four championships.

We’ve already seen a flurry of trade activity this offseason, both leading up to, during, and after the NBA draft, which took place over two days (on Wednesday and Thursday) for the first time this week. Former Defensive Player of the Year runner-up Mikal Bridges (Knicks), former All-Star Dejounte Murray (Pelicans), rising forward Deni Avdija (Trail Blazers), and defensive ace Alex Caruso (Thunder) are among the players on the move.

Follow The NBA Trade Deadline On Hoops Rumors

By Rory Maher | February 8, 2024 at 8:35am CDT

Trade deadline day has arrived for the NBA, and our sister site Hoops Rumors (@HoopsRumors on Twitter) has all the latest news and rumors for each of the league’s 30 teams! The deadline is set for 2:00pm CT on Thursday.

Luke Adams provided a deadline primer this morning to help readers prepare for today’s action, and he will release his annual recap of all the completed trades this evening.

While it began as a relatively quiet week, three deals were agreed to on Wednesday, and many more significant trades were completed earlier in the season, with James Harden, Pascal Siakam, OG Anunoby, Immanuel Quickley, Terry Rozier, and Steven Adams among the players on the move.

In total, we’ve seen 11 in-season trades so far during the 2023/24 season. Last year, we saw 12 deals completed on deadline day alone, and this year could be just as action-packed!

Dejounte Murray, Bojan Bogdanovic, Kyle Kuzma, Bruce Brown, Buddy Hield, Miles Bridges, Andrew Wiggins, and Tyus Jones are among the names that have continually popped up in trade rumors. The Sixers have also reportedly talked to the Bulls about six-time All-Star DeMar DeRozan, perhaps the most accomplished player who has a chance to be sent to a new team today.

Follow The NBA Trade Deadline At Hoops Rumors

By Rory Maher | February 6, 2024 at 12:11pm CDT

The NBA trade deadline is just two days away (Thursday at 2:00pm CT), and our sister site Hoops Rumors (@HoopsRumors on Twitter) has all the latest news and rumors for each of the league’s 30 teams!

The 2023/24 season has been unusual so far, with eight completed in-season trades to this point, including seven before the calendar flipped to February. Typically, most in-season trades aren’t completed until the week (often the day) of the deadline, but several teams decided to make major roster decisions earlier than normal.

In part because several noteworthy trade candidates have already swapped teams in 2023/24, the rumor mill hasn’t featured many All-Star caliber players of late, but there’s always a chance that a disgruntled player asks out – that’s what happened last year when Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant requested trades and were moved shortly thereafter.

That doesn’t mean the rumor mill has been quiet, of course. The Bucks, who won the championship in 2021, are reportedly being aggressive in looking for upgrades. On the other end of the spectrum, you have the Wizards, who are reportedly looking to accumulate assets in the first year of their rebuild. The Hawks have also been active in trade discussions, according to multiple reports.

Will the Sixers look to shake things up after reigning MVP Joel Embiid underwent knee surgery on Tuesday? What about the Bulls, who have six-time All-Star DeMar DeRozan possibly heading for unrestricted free agency in the summer? Will the Warriors or Lakers make moves amid disappointing seasons?

For the latest updates on those stories and more, check out Hoops Rumors today! Last season saw a total of 17 in-season trades — including 12 on deadline day alone — and we’ll likely see a flurry of activity over the next few days. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter – @HoopsRumors.

Check Out The Latest On NBA Free Agency At Hoops Rumors

By Rory Maher | July 1, 2023 at 9:31am CDT

NBA free agency officially got underway yesterday evening, and our sister site Hoops Rumors has all the latest news, rumors and transactions for each of the league’s 30 teams.

39 players reportedly signed contracts yesterday, including seven players receiving nine-figure deals. Three contract extensions are also in the works, including a couple of rookie scale max extensions for Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton and Grizzlies guard Desmond Bane.

This morning, we’ve already seen a three-team sign-and-trade that will send Max Strus to the Cavaliers after a strong playoff run with the Heat, while reigning EuroLeague MVP Sasha Vezenkov will be coming stateside, agreeing to a three-year, $20MM contract with the Kings.

Plenty of players on our top-50 free agents list are still on the board, including a couple of former All-Stars in D’Angelo Russell and Brook Lopez. And we’re still awaiting news on former MVP James Harden’s next destination after he requested yet another trade.

For the latest updates on those stories and more, check out Hoops Rumors today! There will be a whirlwind of activity over the next couple of weeks as teams reshape their rosters for next season, and we’ll be covering it all. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter – @HoopsRumors.

Follow NBA Free Agency At Hoops Rumors

By Rory Maher | June 30, 2023 at 12:06pm CDT

NBA free agency kicks off this evening at 5:o0 p.m. CT, and our sister site Hoops Rumors (@HoopsRumors on Twitter) has all the latest news, rumors and transactions for each of the league’s 30 teams.

We’ve already seen quite a bit of trade activity in the weeks leading up to free agency, including blockbuster deals involving former All-Stars like Chris Paul, Bradley Beal and Kristaps Porzingis, as well as the 2021/22 Defensive Player of the Year, Marcus Smart. Young veterans on pricey multiyear contracts (Jordan Poole, John Collins) have also changed teams.

There were several surprises yesterday, including 10-time All-Star and former league MVP James Harden exercising his $35.6MM player option with the Sixers. However, instead of staying with Philadelphia, he’s working alongside the club to find a new team via trade, which would mark his fourth team in four years.

While this free agent class may not have as much top-end talent as some previous years, it’s deep with quality players and features several highly accomplished veterans, including Kyrie Irving, Draymond Green, Khris Middleton and Fred VanVleet, among others. One of the hot names on the market is Nuggets guard/forward Bruce Brown, who helped Denver win its first championship earlier this month.

Check Out Hoops Rumors For NBA Draft Coverage

By Rory Maher | June 21, 2023 at 12:02pm CDT

The 2023 NBA draft is tomorrow night at 7:00 pm CT, and Hoops Rumors has all the latest news and rumors! Last offseason saw the majority of the league’s 30 teams involved in trades for coveted draft picks, and the expectation is that Thursday could be even more action-packed. We’ve already seen two deals leading up to the draft, including a blockbuster involving a couple multi-time All-Stars, but that was just the tip of the iceberg, because the rumor mill is buzzing about several other possibilities.

There’s no mystery with the first overall pick, as the Spurs will take French big man Victor Wembanyama, who has been widely hailed as the top prospect since LeBron James was the No. 1 pick 20 years ago. However, there’s a significant amount of uncertainty for the remainder of the first round, including the other projected top-three picks — Charlotte is reportedly still weighing whether to select Alabama’s Brandon Miller or G League Ignite’s Scoot Henderson at No. 2.

The Hornets, Trail Blazers (No. 3), Rockets (No. 4) and Pistons (No. 5) are all reportedly open to moving their draft picks in the right deal, which is rare. All of the teams just below them — the Magic (Nos. 6 and 11), Pacers (Nos. 7, 26, 29), Wizards (No. 8), Jazz (Nos. 9, 16, 28) and Mavericks (No. 10) — have been linked to trade rumors as well. We’ll soon find out if any of those selections will be headed elsewhere.

Over at Hoops Rumors, we’ll be keeping tabs on all the latest NBA news and rumors ahead of the draft, in addition to tracking each of this year’s 58 draft picks. With the draft nearly upon us and free agency only nine days away, this is the most eventful time of year for the NBA rumor mill, so be sure to visit Hoops Rumors and follow @HoopsRumors on Twitter for all the latest updates!

Follow The NBA Trade Deadline At Hoops Rumors

By Rory Maher | February 6, 2023 at 11:15am CDT

The NBA trade deadline is just three days away (Thursday at 2:00pm CT), and our sister site Hoops Rumors (@HoopsRumors on Twitter) has all the latest news and rumors for each of the league’s 30 teams!

There was a blockbuster deal on Sunday, with the Nets agreeing to send Kyrie Irving to the Mavericks in exchange for Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith and draft capital. Irving, an eight-time All-Star point guard, is extremely talented, but has also missed extended time for various reasons in each of the past four seasons. It was definitely a gamble by the Mavs — particularly since Irving is on an expiring contract.

The Suns, Lakers and Clippers all reportedly tried to trade for Irving — will they be able to bolster their rosters ahead of the postseason? What about the defending champion Warriors? Reigning Finals MVP Stephen Curry is out multiple weeks due to partially torn leg ligaments, so their front office will surely be feeling pressure to make moves in order to defend their title.

In the East, everyone is wondering if the Raptors and/or Bulls will become deadline sellers and potentially deal away some of their top players. For Toronto, that includes Pascal Siakam, Fred VanVleet, Gary Trent Jr. and OG Anunoby, while Chicago has a “big three” (DeMar DeRozan, Zach LaVine and Nikola Vucevic) that has mostly disappointed thus far in 2022/23.

For the latest updates on those stories and more, check out Hoops Rumors today! Last season saw a total of 20 in-season trades — including 10 on deadline day alone — and this season could be just as action-packed! Follow us on Facebook and Twitter – @HoopsRumors.

By Rory Maher | June 29, 2022 at 9:40am CDT

NBA free agency kicks off tomorrow at 5pm CT, and our sister site Hoops Rumors (@HoopsRumors on Twitter) has all the latest news, rumors and transactions for each of the league’s 30 teams.

The Knicks are considered the strong frontrunners to land Mavericks guard Jalen Brunson, reportedly being willing to offer a four-year deal in the range of $110MM. To free up cap space to sign Brunson, New York is trading some of their excess draft picks and a few veteran players to Detroit. The Knicks are also rumored to be pursuing Spurs All-Star Dejounte Murray via trade, so clearly they’re trying to make a splash and bolster their backcourt.

Kyrie Irving decided to pick up his $36.9MM player option for next season, ending rampant speculation that the Nets might be forced to tear down the roster if Kevin Durant asked to be traded. The Clippers have already been active, agreeing to an extension with starting center Ivica Zubac, and are reportedly set to land five-time All-Star John Wall once he clears waivers after being bought out by the Rockets.

The Hornets have said they’re going to bring back restricted free agent Miles Bridges, but will they being willing to match a maximum-salary offer sheet if a rival team offers it? What will happen with Suns center Deandre Ayton, another restricted free agent who has reportedly grown unhappy in Phoenix? Will the former No. 1 overall pick land the max deal he covets?
