Terrance Gore Elects Free Agency

By Darragh McDonald | November 10, 2022 at 5:11pm CDT

The Mets announced to reporters, including Mike Puma of The New York Post, that outfielder Terrance Gore was outrighted to Triple-A Syracuse. However, he has rejected that assignment and elected free agency, a right he has as a player with previous outrights in his career.

Gore, 32 in June, is a veteran of eight MLB seasons at this point, though he’s primarily been used as a pinch runner and defensive replacement. Over those eight seasons, he’s appeared in just 112 games and has been allowed to take just 85 plate appearances. In that time, he’s produced a career batting line of .216/.310/.270 for a wRC+ of 61. However, he has 43 stolen bases in his career, just over half the number of plate appearances he’s been given.

He was selected to the Mets’ roster at the end of August and continued to serve in that kind of a role. He got into just 10 games, making just eight plate appearances, but was still able to swipe three bags in that time. However, he hit .143 in those trips to the plate and struck out 37.5% of the time without earning a walk.

I will always remember Gore pinch running for Rizzo in the WC game and then having to bat.

He whiffed twice in extra innings. I was praying for a dropped third strike. It was his only chance to get on base.

Such a strange career for Gore- 112 games “played” but only 85 PAs, and over 50% as many SBs as PAs at 43, but not one but TWO World Series rings.

Not good enough to hit in any game/important enough to use a WS roster spot on is maybe the weirdest skill combination ever.

If we can have a DH we may as well have DR (Designated Runner) too. Gore and Billy Hamilton would constantly have jobs on MLB rosters

He has three rings. Royals, Dodgers, Braves. He didn’t play in the 2020 Postseason so the Dodgers doesn’t show on his Baseball Reference page.

First base coaches and bench coaches also get rings who are equally as worthless as gore

He never set foot on the field in any of his WS appearances, but he wasnt on the Dodgers roster at all, all postseason, not sure if thats a real ring.

Anyone that’s on the active roster at any time during the season typically gets a ring, even if they never appear in a game.

Robinson Cano for example had the best shot at a ring this season because he was on 3 of the 6 NL playoff teams.

So weird how good his slash line was in 2019 when he got 58 PA…maybe give him a bit more PT?

Lol Mets Gore was supposed to be their secret pinch runner in the postseason. Not much of an opportunity as Mets went Down in the Wild Card Round.

If the new rules value contact and baserunning, he may have a path to ABs on a noncontender.

“The Mets announced to reporters, including …”
How about: “Terrance Gore is a free agent after rejecting assignment to the minor leagues by the Mets.” Why not just tell the story and forget about who announced it to whom? Glad I don’t pay to read this stuff!

What a career. Most players dream about going to the WS. This guy gets signed and brought aboard a potential team every September while barely taking in any at bats in the minors.
