willingham to the braves would be sweet
Mikey Mike
I like Carmona to the Phils. He is a good pitcher having a good year on a bad team. Unfortunately I think that Cleveland is going to be asking alot for him considering his contract.
Jayson should have never been going anywhere, glad to see that is over.

Why wouldnt Braves try to acquire chris Young?? Makes too much sense to me
14 Rocks
I don’t see why the Braves don’t go after Young either. If they got Willingham the Diaz/Hinske platoon would have to move to RF and Heyward would move to CF. That would be a sad defensive outfield. Young would give them an A+ defensive centerfielder with speed and power, plus the other outfielders could remain in their same positions.
BradWells11
My thinking as well. I think a Schafer/McLouth plus pitching prospect gets him. With the pitching depth the Braves possess I think this is a steal!
roberty
Chris Young is owed $20.9 million over the next 3 seasons. He is producing this season and is a decent centerfielder but his career numbers are so similar to those of Jeff Francoeur that it’s almost frightening.
Francoeur – .269/.310/.427
Young .241/.312/.444
I wouldn’t sign Chris young for 3 years/$21 million let alone trade quality pitching prospects for him.

Relievers are waaaay too expensive

I’m thinking the A’s are going to make a big move Friday or Saturday.
Their reluctance to trade Sheets before he got hurt, coupled with Forst’s comment here tell me that they think they can win the West if they can get a bat.
Despite a 3-4 record, they’ve played well against the Rangers this year. Three of the four losses were close games that could have been won with a real bopper in the lineup. Same deal with their 6-7 record against the Angels.
Prince Fielder is going to be too expensive for sure (and I doubt the Brewers move him before the offseason), but with the depth the A’s have in the minors, I can see them making a deal for Adam Dunn.
With Brett Anderson coming back and a power hitter in the middle of the order, the A’s could make a run.
BradWells11
Dunn to the a’s??? Youre high
corey23
we already have a poor man’s adam dunn in jack cust. I don’t see prince to the A’s because barton is playing well and so is jack cust at dh. dunn would make more sense at least because he can play right field, and we’re hurting at OF right now.

I’d say make Barton part of a deal for Dunn.
Barton isn’t a long term solution at first base on a team already lacking power and Chris Carter should be ready by 2011.

Right, because Billy Beane has never made a deadline deal for a bat when he thought the A’s had a chance to win their division.
I mean, it’s not like they traded Aaron Harang and more for Jose Guillen in 2003. Oh, they did? Oops…
Hmm, I’m sure they didn’t trade Jon Adkins for Ray Durham in 2002. That happened too, you say? Oh…
Well, they definitely didn’t trade prospects for Jermaine Dye in 2001. Wait? That happened too? Crap…
Get a grip, man. I’m speculating. You know what speculation is, right? I’ll give you a hint: It’s exactly what Jon Heyman and Jason Stark do every year at the trade deadline.
Seriously. It’s not like I’m saying the Orioles are going to trade for Prince Fielder.

Trading for a rental player and covincing him to resign in Oakland for big money goes against everything Billy Beane is known for. Doesn’t hurt to dream though.

o but it does hurt to dream

Who said anything about resigning anyone?
Just trade for Dunn and make a run this year. Then hope Chris Carter and/or Michael Taylor make the jump next year to add power.

Though Beane would love the draft picks.

I love how mindless Red Sox fans told me I was high when I said Bard for Wuertz or gtfo. That really is what it would take to move Wuertz.

Who would the Braves trade to get Willingham?–or any other big bat??
