White Sox Sign Jeremy Reed

By Tim Dierkes | July 14, 2010 at 12:44pm CDT

The White Sox signed outfielder Jeremy Reed to a minor league deal yesterday, according to the team's transactions page.  Reed has been assigned to the Triple A Charlotte Knights.

Reed, 29, signed a minor league deal with the Blue Jays in January.  He elected free agency after being outrighted earlier this month.  Reed has come full circle since being ranked the 25th-best prospect in baseball as a member of the Knights heading into the 2004 season.  He was traded to the Mariners in June of that year as the centerpiece in the Freddy Garcia deal.  Reed hasn't hit as expected in his big league career, but he has been able to handle center field.

I cant believe how many people still resort back to the terrible cliche jokes like “Well, this clinches the Central for the White Sox” to minor league deals or mentioning old players that should also be picked up. They werent funny 6,000 times ago, and they still arent

They also gave up Olivo and a minor league SS who is now with the Nats. Mike Morse. Still…..very good deal for them.

Reed actually is from La Verne, I think he was just born at the San Dimas hospital. He went to the same high school as me and he came to a handful of our practices after he got drafted. I grew up with his younger brother and he and his family lived on the boarder of San Dimas/La Verne.

Anyhow, he’s a real cool guy and I wish him the best of luck with the Sox.

We used to prank call him when he was with Seattle. He tried to “big D” us one night at a bar by walking up and saying “Do you know who I am” to one of our friends girlfriends, he gave her his #, she then gave it to us. Such a douchebag.

After every strike out, error, bonehead play – he would get a call from us, so he could listen to it when he got back to the locker room. It was hilarious until he was shipped and changed his #. Glad he’s not a Mariner anymore.
