Marlins Re-Sign Donnie Murphy

By Mark Polishuk | October 18, 2010 at 5:50pm CDT

Florida has re-signed infielder Donnie Murphy, reports Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald (Twitter link). The contract is a split major league/minor league deal and Murphy will be invited to Florida's major league spring training camp.

Murphy, a fifth-round pick of the Royals in the 2002 amateur draft, has a career .659 OPS in 411 plate appearances with Kansas City, Oakland and Florida.  He appeared in 29 games with the Marlins last year before undergoing wrist surgery in September.  Murphy can play third, short and second, so he'll give the Fish some infield depth if he can make the team in the spring.

No thats not “the move”…The move will be when they sign Manny Acosta to a minor League Deal.

That’s not even fair. Their payroll should be knocked down. They shouldn’t be allowed to sign both of them.

Donnie Murphy will be a key part of the Marlins bench in 2011 when he is healthy. He can play all over the infield and can provide rest for the Marlins starters and provide good D. Not to forget, Donnie Bleepin Murphy is Mr Walkoff as well.

I like this move for the Marlins. And how can you not like a grown man named “Donnie?”

Youre out of your element donnie shut up!!!! seriously though i am very happy he will be back with the fish next year…very clutch spot starts and pinch hits. He needs to teach the team how to hit as smart as he does, and not try to do too much with pitches. the young marlins lack that sometimes and try to pull everything….except big mike

Let’s just hope his wrist heals and he doesn’t catch a case of the Wes Helms.
