Indians Will Try To Trade Jayson Nix

By Tim Dierkes | March 28, 2011 at 11:40am CDT

The Indians will attempt to trade infielder Jayson Nix, tweets Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.  If they fail, he'll be designated for assignment.  Nix is out of options and can decline an outright assignment to the minors if he does clear waivers.

Nix, 28, hit .224/.281/.396 with 14 home runs in 363 plate appearances for the White Sox and Indians last year, playing mostly second and third base.  He was in the mix this spring for a backup infield job with the Tribe, but Adam Everett won that battle.

It’s not Adam Everett it’s Jack Hannahan.

I’m talking about a backup IF job rather than the starting 3B job.

whitesox for mark teahan and some cash….I was a huge fan of nix and thought he never got what he deserved in a sox uni. Us sox fans really liked him. He played decent enough defense all over the diamond(in a sox uni he spent time at 3rd, ss, 2nd, left and right) had good speed I believe he was like 10 for 10 in stolen bases and had good clutch power as shown by the 14 hrs in a half a seasons at bats. If he could put it all together he very well could be a poor mans dan ugla with more speed.

I think a teahan trade would make sense assuming the sox ate a ton of his contract. Nix becomes a back up everything for the sox and a decent bat off the bench with pop. While Teahan is a nice stop gap at 3rd and could spell 1st, left and right when needed. And if he puts together a good enough season the tribe could trade him for a prospect.

I am torn over your trade proposal. I am not a Teahan fan, but we know what we are in for and with Morel being the other option Im not sure if I would want to hope that two young players pull it together.

but with the name whitesoxhomer, im assuming you remember nix. Yeah he was frustrating on the field at time. But the kid was very good at times at the plate for the sox. He had that good combination of speed power and eye. He just never got enough playing time

Jayson Nix is a solid backup right now. My complaint with Nix isnt his glove as much as is his consistency. Can he bring his BA up? I agree that he never got enough playing time, but Im worried that if Morel doesnt work out and that extra playing time isnt enough to kick start Nix then we would be in a bad situation.

If a trade was to happen it would be for a low level minor league fringe player not someone they would have to roster.
