Brewers Acquire Jordan Brown

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | May 2, 2011 at 4:21pm CDT

The Brewers acquired minor leaguer Jordan Brown from the Indians for cash considerations, according to Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer (on Twitter). The move creates roster space for returning Rule 5 pick Josh Rodriguez at Triple-A, according to MLB.com's Jordan Bastian (on Twitter).

Brown, a 27-year-old first baseman/outfielder, debuted with the Indians in 2010 and had spent the first month of the 2011 season at Triple-A. He has a .278/.373/.472 line at Columbus one month into his seventh minor league season (his fourth at Triple-A). The 2005 fourth round pick has a .305/.369/.471 line in 2523 minor league games. However, he struggled through 26 big league games last year, hitting .230/.272/.310 in 92 plate appearances.

hey maybe they made this trade in the event that the amazing mark kotsay gets hurt. You can never have enough horrible corner OF/1b backups who can’t hit.

Why in the world would the Indians keep this guy in the minors for 2,523 minor league games? Because they could? Did it take them that long to figure out they didn’t like what he brought to the field? Did they forget he was there? Did they confuse him with some other guy name Brown?

I guess it’s good for Brown to have another organization take a look.

That probably should’ve read as 2,523 Plate Appearences through 594 games.

The Indians kept him because he is a solid AAA ball player. He hit very well for the Indians at every level. He was a league MVP in class A and later won an International League batting title. It is not impossible that he could become helpful in the major leagues and, as an Indians fan, I wish him the best.

Mat Gamel who will likely be a .300 major league hitter with power is in the driver’s seat for that.

Brown is a better player than Gamel he was just put on the back burner in Cleveland because of LaPorta and Brantley.

The Indians never gave this guy any shot at all once they picked up Brantley and LaPorta in the CC deal everyone new it was the end of the line here for Brown I how he does well.

BUT — This move was BS just to so they could add there 6th middle infielder to AAA Columbus what were they thinking????????????????????????????????????????????
