Miguel Tejada Plans To Play In 2012

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | September 9, 2011 at 3:40pm CDT

Miguel Tejada told Enrique Rojas of ESPNdeportes.com that he has no intention of retiring. The shortstop, who was released by the Giants yesterday, says he’ll play winter ball in the Dominican Republic to get back in shape for another season in the Major Leagues.

Tejada is coming off of a disappointing season in San Francisco (he acknowledges that he didn't have a good time with the Giants). The 37-year-old hit .239/.270/.326 with four homers in 343 plate appearances. He split his time equally between third and short and even appeared at second base for the first time in his career.

Tejada, a 15-year veteran of the Major Leagues, will have to accept a substantial paycut from the $6.5MM salary he earned this season in order to play in 2012. He'll likely be looking at a minor league deal with an invitation to Spring Training 2012.

Well obviously he didn’t have a “good time” in SF he was one 5 worst players in the MLB and constantly killed his team on both sides of the ball.  I guess all those roids from his A’s days make him think he can still play but he’s been garbage since he’s been off them and should retire knowing he choked when it mattered and never even sniffed a ring.  At least he will be in a movie about some team that never won anything which sums up his PED fueled career.

Ok, I’ve been lurking on this site for 2 years. This article has forced me to make my first post. Tejada, you stole $6.5M from the Giants, made a public spectacle of your disapproval of a bunt sign (your bunts go about as far in the infield as your full swings do), and you think someone other than Sabean will give you a chance? Wow, that HGH obviously swells the ego! Buh-bye!

It bothers me when people say a player “stole from the organization. Do you know why Tejada made $6.5MM? It’s because the Giants offered it to him. If someone offered you that money to play baseball, would you turn it down and say that you’re not good enough to make that much? Of course not. No one would. And if someone says they would, they’ee lieing. Don’t get mad at Tejada for ageing. If you want to be mad, be mad at Sabean for offerint that contract to him.

Obviously he was given the contract. Thanks for the patronizing response. If you are a Giants fan, and therefore watch the majority of their games, you would know that his EFFORT this year was pathetic. So yes, I will go ahead and be mad at Tejada for not earning his paycheck.

You’re welcome for the patronizing response. In no way, shape, or form did Tejada do any wrong by taking the Giants money.

Jack, if there were any justice in the world, you’d be forced to watch (with eyelids forced open a la “A Clockwork Orange” so that you could not look away) every single play Tejeda made this year.

If the experience did not drive you insane (as it should any baseball fan) then you would reconsider questioning Willie’s use of the word “stole.”

(yes, please, stop being so literal)

from lurking for over a year, the guy never has anything good to say unless it’s about his tigers. then again, he’s probably bitter from watching the only player (inge) who has sucked worse than miggy the last few years

with these guys, everything is semantics and being literal. amelia f—ing bedelia.

If Tejada’s feelings were hurt when the giants asked him to bunt. Imagine his feelings when he’s offered a minor league contract.

So he is going back to the dominican to get in shape? does that mean he is going to come back next spring 2 years younger and fresh off a roids/ HGH cycle? because if thats true, and in all likelihood possible(he will find some document stating his true birth age that actually puts him at like 32 years old and explains why he comes back stronger, faster and able to field again), I would be cool with my team signing him…

god i remember play mlb the show 06 and any time i did a fantasy draft and had a top pick, usually the #1 i would have a hard time choosing between albert, arod, miggy, bonds(what ever his name was in that game) and Lee….amazing out of those players only one is still performing at the rate he was back then…

It would be kind of strange to start complaining about ROWAND in response to a story about TEJADA.

In a previous post about Rowand (and his release), plenty of people bashed him.

Rowand sucks, sure, but at least he made that nice catch to keep J. Sanchez’s no hitter in tact.

All I can recall Tejada doing was winning a game early in the year on a hit that actually should’ve been caught.

At first when I heard that an over the hill, 37-year old Short Stop that plays bad defense and can’t hit his weight was available for 2012, I immediately had visions of Toothpick Baker wanting him to play for the Reds and start 150 Games.

Then I read that Tejada doesn’t like to bunt and all thoughts of him playing for the Reds were extinguished.
