Dodgers Links: Blake, Vogelsong, Burke

By Mike Axisa | September 9, 2011 at 7:50pm CDT

One year ago today, the Dodgers released Ronnie Belliard after he hit just .216/.295/.327 with two homers in 185 plate appearances. Mini-Manny spent some time in the minor leagues this year, but he called it a career in June. Here's the latest from Chavez Ravine…

  • Jim McDowell, agent for Casey Blake, told MLBTR that his client had a post-surgery follow-up appointment this morning, and that everything checked out fine. Blake had surgery to repair a neck issue. He'll be able to begin his offseason workouts after six weeks of downtime, by which point the Dodgers will have already declined his $6MM option.
  • John Shea of The San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Dodgers offered Ryan Vogelsong a contract this past offseason, but the he declined (Twitter links). "I couldn't see myself being a Dodger," said the right-hander, who has a 2.62 ERA in 154 1/3 innings with the Giants.
  • Steve Sugarman, spokesman for Frank McCourt, told Steve Dilbeck of The Los Angeles Times that Bill Burke's $1.2 billion offer to buy the Dodgers was "unsolicited and a surprise." The team has not yet publicly responded to the offer, and Sugarman made it clear that Burke is not an acquaintance of McCourt's.

That makes me like Vogalsong a bit more, such a great story this year. Even though he’s in his 30’s, I hope the Giants sign him for a 2 year contract.

Wow vogey was taught well in his first stint as a giant, it stayed with him 9 years later. Beatofficer is right, sign him for two years, a solid #4

Why wouldn’t you accept a contract?! He’s in his 30’s and would have had job security. All because he couldn’t see himself a dodger..dumbass.

Well, it seems to have worked out just fine for him…

The words “Dodger” and “security” don’t go well together.

He told the Giants to match. They did. That’s not dumb. If he tried to go to the A’s, well that would be just downright foolish.

I just wish Eugeni0-for-31 and Uribe had shared Vogelsong’s beliefs

Haha, yeah…the sad part is, I spent a couple months this winter trying to convince my friends Juan Uribe was a good signing. Oops…

Up until this year I doubt Vogelsong could see himself as pitching in the Majors period. Overall, he’s been a pretty horrible pitcher. To his credit he turned it around this year. The question is whether or not he’ll turn back into a pumpkin next season.

Apparently you missed the part about him not wanting to be a Dodger.  Now there is a team full of “pumpkins”.

To offer that much for a team (as well as owner) in financial distress, one would look to non washed mob money and ties to Jack McGurn (No Pun intended on pick of gangsters) for one who would be silly enough to offer up so much.
