The Orioles will sign utility player Bill Hall to a minor league deal, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports tweets. Hall will replace Josh Bell at Triple-A, according to Rosenthal.
Hall had signed a minor league deal with the Yankees in February, but elected free agency earlier this month. The 32-year-old played for the Astros and Giants in 2011, posting a .211/.261/.314 line in 199 plate appearances. He played second base and left field last year, but has MLB experience at a wide array of other positions.

Nice.. Here is a discard that is *is* hard to figure Duquette went out and signed..
Alex Cora out of retirement would have been better. At least he can catch what is hit to him, albeit with 2 step range.
Is a Julio Lugo reappearance next with the O’s? He would have been a better choice.
Lefty
Julio Lugo?!? O don’t say that Silver, we already had Lugo and he was terrible!
johnsilver
LOL I know.. Lugo was down to about 2 step range when you guys had him, but at least he would TRY to play small ball. Hall just goes to the plate and hacks at EVERYTHING still.
He’s brutal. Hopefully Duquette will keep him buried at AAA.

Now you have Bill Hall who is even more terrible.

High Strikeouts totals, can’t take a walk…sounds like a perfect fit for my O’s

Also when he hit those 16-18HR for Boston 2 years ago?? They were all in meaningless/garbage time scenarios. Wait until you see him play defense at ANY position.. It ain’t pretty…
Havok9120
I was kind of hoping you guys would pick him up for a corner outfield spot.
But I guess this will have to do.
johnsilver
Not hardly.. Hall was one of Francona’s “pets” and only got playing time because of that. Without his “protector” around, no chance he gets a sniff of playing in Boston, or from the home town dugout at least.

I refuse to acknowledge this event has happened.

Lets give the guy some credit, he was the toughest batter in the houston astros line up in MLB 2k11. Just check that add with the guy who won the million challenge that year.

Then remember, it’s 2K11 and not the Show.

I’m not quite sure I understand this. Hall doesn’t have any value for a team going nowhere like the O’s. I mean, what’s the point. I understand that Bell has little to no value as well but what’s the point in replacing a 25 year old at aaa with a 32 year old? Hall also doesn’t really fit the idea of trying to find more guys who get on base a bunch which was an area that the O’s desperately needed to improve on from last year and seem to have been trending upward in this year (granted, upward from somewhere near the bottom).
The only thing I can figure is that Hall has ample experience at 3rd so if they ever find anyone willing to take on Mark Reynolds they’ll have someone to play the 5. But that’s just a guess.
not_brooks
There’s absolutely no chance that Hall puts on an Oriole uniform this year.
He’s a body to fill the hole left at third base that was created when Bell was dumped.
Understand?

I would be more interested in the follow-up article, “Why Orioles are signing Bill Hall”, only because I cannot for the life of me think of any good reason

It’s for Mother’s Day
ScrillDough
watching hall play right now for the O’s and he just got a 4-0 walk…….
