7:41pm: McCalvy hears that Veras is still going through the waivers process, so he is not a free agent just yet (Twitter link).
7:10pm: Right-hander Jose Veras has elected free agency after being outrighted off the Brewers' 40-man roster, agent Bryce Dixon told MLB.com's Adam McCalvy. The right-hander would have remained under team control in 2013 as an arbitration-eligible player.
Veras, 32, pitched to a 3.63 ERA with 10.6 K/9 and 5.4 BB/9 in 67 innings for Milwaukee this season. They acquired him from the Pirates last winter for Casey McGehee, who, coincidentally enough, also elected free agency today.

Worth a look at as a middle reliever, although on a short deal, since he is already 32.

Worth a look for the phillies i think two years 5 million would work

I think he would work for the phillies on a two year deal worth 5 million

His stats weren’t bad this year for Milwaukee—what was he looking at getting in arbitration that made the Brewers cut him loose?

Won’t miss him a bit as he’s more of a thrower than a pitcher. Decent slider and a live fastball… only if he could locate and work low consistently.

Oh yes…I remember that when the Yankees had him.
