Logan Morrison Rumors: Wednesday

By Steve Adams | December 11, 2013 at 9:24am CDT

The Marlins told teams on Monday that they were close to trading Logan Morrison, but no deal has come to fruition. Miami could be waiting on Corey Hart to make a decision, as the Brewers' level of interest is reportedly contingent on whether or not they can retain him. As many as seven teams were in on Morrison as of yesterday. Here are your LoMo rumors for Wednesday…

  • Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel heard yesterday that the Brewers were out on Morrison, but now has been told that they will indeed try for him if Hart signs elsewhere (Twitter link).

Earlier Updates

  • Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Pirates, Rays and Cubs are all in on Morrison (Twitter link). The Cubs would use Morrison in the outfield due to the presence of Anthony Rizzo at first base. The Marlins are still prioritizing a third baseman in return for Morrison, Sherman adds.

Waiting on Corey Hart to make a decision is completely foolish. Since when does a franchise looking to make a deal wait for the potential of one team being eliminated from the trade pool and, therefore, lowering the value of what they could receive in return. If anything, the Marlins want to move before a player makes up his mind since they have Morrison and can control where he goes.

The Marlins never really go the savvy route anyway. They are all about salary dumping. Every few years they sign a lot of free agents to drum up interest to the fan base and than trade them all when they roped them in.

Morrison is not someone they would dump to free up salary he’s still cheap

Playing the OF would only seem to increase Morrison’s chances of injuring himself, again.

I would think the Marlins would have to include more than Morrison to get Olt from the Cubs.

More like Vitters and a low level pitcher for LoMo.

There were talks about the Cubs trading one of their top prospects for some pitching and Miami kept coming up as a match. Would a Mike Olt + Albert Almora for Morrison + SPs work?

As a Cubs fan, I could see something happening, however I would rather trade Soler than Almora. IMO Almora should be near untouchable. A guy w/ GG defense and through the roof IQ is hard to find, meanwhile power corner guys are plentiful.

Almora,Soler,Baez, and Bryant are the core 4 prospects, they are what the FO has listed as untouchable… You would be better off trying to trade for Castro than one of those four IMO

Agreed. I was just saying that if any of the “core 4” is traded for an elite pitching prospect, I would trade Soler before any of the others.

So would I, although I would rather try to find a pitcher we could get for Jackson, and or Vitters.
