Orioles Trying To Trade Bud Norris

By Steve Adams | July 22, 2015 at 9:12pm CDT

The Orioles are currently attempting to move right-hander Bud Norris, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (on Twitter).

Norris, a free agent at season’s end, has struggled quite a bit this year, working to a 6.82 ERA entering tonight’s contest. His sub-par work in the rotation caused him to lose his starting spot, and the move to the bullpen hasn’t yielded better results (four runs in six relief innings, though he did work a scoreless inning with one strikeout in tonight’s game).

The good news for Norris is that he’s still averaging 93.4 mph on his fastball, and his 41.8 percent ground-ball rate is above his career mark. That’s not much of a silver lining when considering that his 6.7 K/9 is a career-low, his control has taken a step back, and he’s allowing homers at a higher rate than ever before. His 2015 struggles aside, though, Norris has a solid track record. From 2011-14, he averaged 174 innings per season with a 4.06 ERA, 8.1 K/9 and 3.3 BB/9 between Houston and Baltimore.

Moving Norris figures to be a difficult feat for Orioles general manager Dan Duquette; in addition to his struggles, Norris is still owed approximately $3.6MM of his $8.8MM salary. Duquette said earlier today that his team was a deadline buyer regardless of its record over the next week and a half, with his primary focus being to add an outfield bat and pitching depth.

Cards should get him just so no one in the National League does. Bud Norris still gives me nightmares.

Phillies will take him if you throw in Ofelky Peralta or Tanner Scott and you’ve got a deal– you can have Darin Ruf

Tampa or Oakland, he will become a star. They love reclamation projects. Should come cheap.

“Norris, a free agent at season’s end”

Very cheap…if they just wait a couple months. He’s bordering on minor league deal territory.

Well, the Orioles are ‘trying’ a lot of things. The thing that they are ‘trying’ the most is talking. All they do is talk, no action.
So, Duquette how about trying this do something and surprise us for once.
    #SMH!

Besides what do expect for Norris? We might as well keep him at this point, I mean who are you going to place in the bullpen once he is gone.
It’s not like we have someone exciting in AAA… maybe Givens, but shouldn’t he been here by now on a full-time basis if he was really mowing them down in AAA?

Question – watching from afar, it seems frustrating that the O’s have been in position to make a move that would have vastly improved the team, and maybe get them to the World Series. For the last few years, it’s seemed that no team in baseball would benefit more from acquiring a front-end starter than the O’s, and I get excited about the prospect of them making that deal, but instead it seems that they just go digging through other peoples trash. What gives?

I’d like to announce that I’ve acquired Bud Norris from the Baltimore Orioles for a 6 pack box of Jolly Time Butter Popcorn. I know many will think I overpaid, but Norris will arrive with a bag of Aldi house brand Clancy Wavy potato chips.

Sorry for the extreme details of the trade, but it became complicated when the Orioles balked at my demand of Norris and Little Debbie.

I know…I should have held out for the Swiss Cake Rolls….but I’m thinking of using Norris in a 4 man mowing rotation down the stretch. I look for the rain to pick back up in September, and I needed an available starter that isn’t afraid of getting rained on or bagging clippings

In related news, the Phillies are actively trying to trade Ryan Howard. Baseball pundits and rival executives have started to suspect that teams actually do not like having bad players making money on their team. Fascinating. More at 11:00.

The Baltimore Orioles….talk, talk, talk, talk….if they do make a deal, it will be for some minor leaguer no one has ever heard of, or some second tier role player off the scrap heap that they will claim has the ability to really step in an help them…..like Snider, Lough, Reimold, and even Pearce, cause aside from last year, his numbers are nothing to yell about…and these guys have helped SO much.

Wrong. If the Orioles do make a deal it will likely be for someone that TOO many people have heard of.
