Braves Claim Danny Burawa From Yankees

By Steve Adams | August 14, 2015 at 3:10pm CDT

The Braves announced that they’ve claimed right-hander Danny Burawa off waivers from the Yankees (Twitter link). Burawa will head to Triple-A Gwinnett for the time being.

The 26-year-old Burawa made his big league debut with the Yankees this season, yielding four runs in two-third of an inning. He’s had a nice season at the Triple-A level, however, notching a 2.55 ERA with 7.1 K/9 against 3.8 BB/9 in 49 1/3 innings. Baseball America ranked Burawa 31st among Yankees farmhands this offseason, and Kiley McDaniel of Fangraphs mentioned him in his writeup of the Yankees’ system as well. The 6’2″, 210-pounder can run his fastball up to 96 mph but is inconsistent with his slider and splitter — both of which look like above-average offerings on occasion.

It’s these kind of moves that don’t make headlines that really do show how Hart/Coppy are trying their hardest to remake the farm system. Low-risk, possible high-reward pick-ups.

Agreed but i am wondering why he wasnt claimed by anyone else. If I am correct, he has to pass all AL teams before being offered to NL teams.

I believe thats how it works, but remember: 40 Man Roster spots.

No its not. It goes back and forth between the two leagues. Lowest AL then lowest NL then 2nd lowest AL 2nd lowest NL and so on.
So the Braves are about the eighth team when they got him.

Sorry, but you are incorrect extre.. He had to pass through the entire league before going to the NL.. There was a write up about the process last year when the Marlins designated Turner..

Edit: To be more precise when a player is put on waivers any team can claim him.. If he is claimed by more than one team, the team that will get him is the team with the weakest record in the players current league, followed by teams from the opposing league in order of record strength..
