Kinda hope he’s good this year so he leaves yankees and they give other good options in the minors a shot . Sevy ,Tanaka(if don’t opt out) montgomery , green and cessa is an ok rotation to prove
thegreatcerealfamine
Would love it..LOVE IT..if Tanaka opted out.
metseventually 2
That rotation wouldn’t be very good with those killer ALE lineups.
A'sfaninUK
Severino is the most overrated pitcher in baseball. He’s AAAA but the Yankees hype train is trying to make him out to be a stud. He ain’t.
Tanaka is the best SP they’ve had this decade though, they should re-do his deal and remove the opt-out.
ucalex
Severino just turned 23! To call him the most overrated pitcher in baseball is just unfair. He has always been highly regarded as a prospect and was very good in his debut, struggled last year, yes but was lights out in the bullpen. Give the kid a chance before you start bashing him.
chesteraarthur
He’s not a good SP.
MB923
He’s 23 dude. It’s not like he’s 30 and has been in the bigs for 5 years trying to get it together.
Need I remind you how bad you and the rest of RSN wanted Rick Porcello gone after his below average career in Detroit and his horrible first year in Boston???

Still better than Montero…

If he has a similar season, that 3.79 FIP might encourage a few teams? Especially if he moves to a pitcher’s park? See:Nova, Ivan (albeit small sample size).

The Yankees version of Mike Pelfrey
strostro
I wouldn’t go that far
MB923
Pelfrey was drafted , developed and started with the Mets. The Yankees traded for Pineda after he finished up a strong rookie season in Seattle. That’s not a good comparison at all.
BrodiesHairisGreezy!
They both throw hard and look good and dominating up there and then the game starts and balls fly out of the park. Apt comparison.
TheGreatTwigog
Didn’t he near lead baseball in BP’s Deserved Run Average last year?

“Of course, even in the current market, the relief ace profile doesn’t pay quite as well as that of a quality #2 or #3 starter.”
Is this even true? What did Chapman, Jansen, and Melancon get, something like $86m, $80m, and $64m? This year’s top starters got much less, with Hill (who is arguably a #1, certainly better than a quality #2) getting $48m, and Nova (who could be called a quality #3 after his work in Pittsburgh) $26m.
I guess this is referring back to last offseason when Chen and Leake got $80m, Samardzija got $90m, and Kennedy (quality #3 a big stretch in this case) got $70m. But I think the market has changed some with relievers being en vouge.
Looking to next year, do we think Chris Tillman will get more than Wade Davis (assuming each has a year matching the average of his last three seasons)?
And also, since when do (or can) starters just up and market themselves as ace relievers? Is this actually a thing? There were some rumblings about Cashner doing that this offseason, but wouldn’t he have done so if he could have gotten $60m instead of $10m?
LASTSON86
As long as he hides his pinetar better while he’s on the mound, he should do just fine.
The baseball kid
Nice

Come back to Seattle maybe you can find what you had. And maybe it won’t make the Montero mistake so bad.
