Red Sox To Purchase Contract Of Kyle Kendrick

By Jeff Todd | May 2, 2017 at 9:13pm CDT

The Red Sox will purchase the contract of righty Kyle Kendrick to start on Thursday, as Tim Britton of the Providence Journal was among those to report on Twitter. It seems the organization will open a 40-man spot by placing an injured player (likely Tyler Thornburg) to the 60-day DL.

Kendrick, 32, hasn’t seen the majors since a woeful stint with the Rockies two seasons ago. But he is the clear veteran option for the organization, which was already missing David Price from its rotation when Steven Wright went down to a knee injury.

It’s not yet clear just how long Wright will be out. But he is said to be seeing a specialist for a second opinion on the knee, as Evan Drellich of CSNNE.com tweets, which could at least hint there’s some potential consideration of a surgical option of some kind.

Though Kendrick hasn’t fared well thus far at Triple-A, with a 6.00 ERA over 27 innings, he does carry a solid-enough mix of 6.7 K/9 against 1.7 BB/9. The less-experienced alternatives — Brian Johnson and Henry Owens — have outperformed Kendrick and already have 40-man spots, but Boston evidently would prefer to see them continue refining their work in the upper minors.

What did he do that was so egregious, again? And please don’t cite the slide, there was nothing wrong with it.

He threw a bat at a player and was suspended for it.

Apparently he likes the bats cuz he just threatened to charge the mound with one in his little tantrum. He never got hit yet he’s crying. And If someone “cites” that they threw at his head the Os just threw at benintendis head

Well throwing a bat at someone would be violent and in most cases criminal for attempted battery so thug does fit

Hugely disappointed in Thornburg! 60 days – c’mon! Flipside Hendricks was the Red Sox workhorse this Spring and did quite well. I certainly would like to see where Brian Johnson fits on this team as well. I am really pulling for him.. At least they have some pitching options. Still waiting for Betts and Bradley to start turning it on!

Don’t hold your breath about Betts and Bradley. Without Papi they are lost in space and the Fenway faithful will be on them soon.

Betts will be just fine it’s Bradley that is more worrisome his swing appears to be too long again. When he is short and compact to the ball he hits well when he tries to hit out of the ballpark all the time he struggles I’m sure Chili knows that and is working with him know. Betts has hit a lot of balls hard just not a lot to show for it yet very similar to a couple of years ago his hard hit balls will start falling and he will be fine. I’m sure the Red Sox are going to miss papi but that is a silly statement by an obvious Yankee fan.

Big Papi wasn’t the whole team….. and Betts is a athletic freak and has shown signs of coming around Bruin1012 is right though about Bradley and his swing again

Owens isn’t anywhere near ready his last AAA game is like his typical AAA game 5 innings pitched 7k 6w. He can get away with the Walks in AAA because they chase the changeup, which is outstanding by the way, but in the big leagues they make you pay for having that poor of control.
