Reds Designate Kyle Crockett

By Jeff Todd | July 27, 2018 at 2:30pm CDT

The Reds have designated southpaw Kyle Crockett, the club announced. That move, along with the optioning of righty Austin Brice, allowed the club to promote southpaw Wandy Peralta and right-hander Keury Mella.

Crockett, 26, had recorded 11 strikeouts while issuing only one walk in his 9 1/3 MLB innings this year. Of course, he was also touched for six earned runs on 16 base knocks. He has seen scattered action over each of the past five MLB campaigns, holding same-handed-hitters to a cumulative .640 OPS but surrendering a .862 mark to opposing righty bats.

Why Crockett? He has pitched really good for the Reds since they claimed him off wavier from the Indians!

    Maybe Melda will start?
Surprised by the move on Crockett. He pitched 2 innings last night and gave up 6 hits, 2 ERs and 1 HR in 2 innings. Otherwise he’s pitched fairly well. My guess is that they hope he clears waivers. What is says to me though is that they probably aren’t trading one of the other relievers.

I would guess there will be something done with Mahle after the short outing last night.

Does it always look like his body is about to blow up when he throws?

Ah, let me guess. You don’t you curse words and you still tuck your shirt in to go grocery shopping right? At red lights yeah I will look at my phone to kill time. I think I’m on the majority side of the argument.

After the short outing by Mahle, they needed some fresh arms in the bullpen to replace Brice, Crockett, and Lorenzen, who would not be available for today’s game. Mella is probably the long reliever for a few days or until Lorenzen is ready to pitch again.. He’ll probably go back down to AAA and start again. Peralta might stick around if he pitches well.

I’ve had a hard time getting a read on Crockett this year..but if Wandy can return to last year’s form, he is definitely an upgrade from him..
If I’m being honest I don’t know much about Mella..but Brice hasn’t exactly impressed imho..I really liked what was said in last night’s game in regards to him needing to spend some time with Jared Hughes.

Did u not watch the game last night Tyler Mahler only went one inning and our bullpen needs to last the rest of the series and Crockett had 40+ pitches so this is just keep the bullpen fresh so mella will be our long man and wandy will take over Crockett’s spot

Yeah Peralta was about the same at AAA as in Cincy. It was purely about the arms.
