Mets Designate Matt den Dekker

By Jeff Todd | July 27, 2018 at 3:16pm CDT

The Mets have designated outfielder Matt den Dekker for assignment, as Matt Ehalt of The Record was among those to tweet. His roster spot was needed for the just-signed Austin Jackson.

It turned out to be a brief return to the majors with the Mets for den Dekker, who’s nearing his 31st birthday. The former New York draftee (5th round, 2010) had spent the early portion of the season at Triple-A Las Vegas. In 249 plate appearances there, den Dekker posted a .286/.336/.524 slash with 11 homers and six steals.

Not much to say other than I don’t see why the Mutts are looking at older vets instead of seeing what minor league talent they have. Perhaps it says a lot about their current crop of MiLB outfielders. Spot would probably have gone to Tebow had he been healthy.

Sadly I’m not as I really thought the Mets envisioned marketing him to an extent.

They know what den dekker is. 31 and not good. If he were he would have stayed in the mlb on his first go with the Mets or someone else. His greatest contribution to them was somehow being so overvalued by the nats a few years ago they gave up Jerry Blevins for him who helped the past few seasons.

The problem is they don’t have any OF prospect talent worth looking at on their Triple-A team. I know den Dekker isn’t much but why DFA him when you can put Cespedes on the 60-Day DL? They seem so reluctant to use the 60-Day DL unless it is absolutely the last resort,.

Can anyone tell me how the hitting coach Roessler has a job. Besides Cabrera no one on this team can hit.

To be fair, those pictures are way out of context. He was merely looking for RPing

Nimmo is low-key turning in a completely awesome season. Super underrated.

mets heard that if you want to build around
pitching you have to play defense
I am just trying to figure out who told them?

I will be so glad when the Mets farm team is not in Vegas. The hitting numbers are so inflated.
