Cubs Outright Gore, Freeman; Claim Jack Reinheimer From Mets

By Jeff Todd | November 2, 2018 at 4:19pm CDT

The Cubs announced today that they have outrighted outfielder Terrance Gore and infielder Mike Freeman from the 40-man roster. Meanwhile, the club has added infielder Jack Reinheimer via waiver claim from the Mets.

Gore and Freeman were each added to the Chicago 40-man owing to late-season considerations. The former is a standout baserunner, the latter a quality defender. Both players appear to qualify as minor-league free agents.

Reinheimer, meanwhile, is a 26-year-old utilityman who is capable of lining up at shortstop. He showed some life at the plate in a 16-game run with the Mets’ top affiliate late last year, though he has mostly been a palatable-but-unexciting hitter at the Triple-A level, with a .278/.343/.371 slash in 1,376 total plate appearances.

Well, I looked at his stats page. His primary position is…….pinch hitter……

He is -0.4 war on his career

No idea who he is but I dont think it should be a surprise any team waved him

Granted hes 26, he could break out

Aw, I loved Terrance Gore. I don’t always understand all the roster machinations… is Gore essentially done with the Cubs then? Can he be added back? Or does this just mean he’d begin in the minor leagues, which is sort of a given anyway?

He was added as a post season pinch runner. He was never going to be a long term piece

Well, I mean, I didn’t expect him to take Albert Almora’s job or anything, but I was just hoping he’d pop up when the rosters expanded again.

Gore only has one year of MLB service time, so he must accept the outright waiver. Only players with 5+ years of MLB service time can reject an outright assignment and choose free agency, per article XIX-A of the CBA.

I believe this is just optioning him off of the 40-man roster in preparation for the Rule V draft. The Cubs should be able to retain him in the minor leagues if he goes unclaimed.

The Cubs did this a lot last year (see Dylan Floro). I wouldn’t be surprised if Reinheimer is claimed by another team within the week.

The Cubs still have 6 slots open on the 40-man with Reinheimer. I bet he sticks and others are traded.

This looks like a precursor to a trade involving Zobrist, Happ, or maybe La Stella.

Are you really Kyle’s mom? If so, tell him he is a cool kid, and I would like to hang out with him over the weekend.

Or a trade of Rizzo, Bryant, and Baez. Trade them while they still have value.

I hope they just get rid of La Stella! Ever since he went home pouting he was sent down that one time, he’s just irked me.

Schwarber needs to be a DH in the AL. Happ should be moved as well!

What does it have to do with Russell? Russell is suspended for a month. They need a backup SS. They like this guy better than Freeman. Sometimes a move is just what it says

So it’s been 48 hours & I haven’t heard or seen that anybody claimed either player.. might we still have Gore & Freeman?
