Reds Claim Robby Scott

By Jeff Todd | December 10, 2018 at 12:21pm CDT

The Reds have acquired lefty Robby Scott from the Red Sox, per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic (via Twitter). It seems to be a straight waiver claim, MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand tweets.

Scott, 29, was a useful contributor in Boston in 2017, when he worked to a 3.79 ERA in 35 2/3 innings. He carried 7.8 K/9 and 3.3 BB/9 in that stretch, managing a healthy 11.0% swinging-strike rate despite only possessing an upper-eighties fastball.

Clearly, though, the Boston organization didn’t have much of a need for Scott last year and desired to make better use of his 40-man spot this winter. Scott struggled through nine MLB appearances in 2018 but did turn in a nice season at Triple-A, where he spun 48 1/3 innings of 1.86 ERA ball with 11.7 K/9 and 3.9 BB/9.

Lol I certainly hope he doesn’t think this transaction is Scooter Gennett for Robby Scott.

The Sux would be lucky to get an actual Vespa Scooter for Scott

Read! It wasn’t a trade. And I would say Sux is far from applicable. If you’re gonna hate, at least know something about the subject.

He owns lefties, just can’t get RH batters out period, kind of like Javier Lopez used to be.. U know, that same javier Lopez Boston dumped years ago for the same problem and the SFG kept paying 4-5m for YEARS even tho he wasn’t able to get any RH batters out with a mid 80’s FB.

Scott is tough to pick up also for lefties, just doesn’t throw from nearly as low as did lopez and doubt anyone (SFG??) would ever pay him 4-5m to own LH batter only.

Nah, I think the Reds already traded Scooter to the Yankees for two tickets to Dear Evan Hanson.

Either you have zero knowledge of MLB and teams/players. Or you are one of the biggest trolls on here. I am going to go with troll because no way someone is this dumb when it comes to evaluating talent and trade value. (Or waiver claims )

Seems likely that it would be nothing more than an international bonus pool slot, if anything. Reds frequently trade for minor leaguers rather than spend them and the Sox often do the opposite with guys they don’t feel they need.

Wonder if the reds would be interested in a Cuban minor leaguer who has some tools and a slightly inflated salary.
