Yankees Release Danny Farquhar

By Jeff Todd | June 19, 2019 at 2:21pm CDT

The Yankees have released veteran right Danny Farquhar, according to MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch (via Twitter). He had been with the organization on a minor-league deal.

Farquhar, 32, was attempting to work back towards the MLB mound after suffering a ruptured brain aneurysm last season. It’s remarkable that he was even able to make that effort, let alone progress to the point that he was assigned to the Yanks’ top affiliate.

Unfortunately, the early showing wasn’t terribly promising. Farquhar surrendered three long balls and seven earned runs over three innings in two outings at Triple-A. While he also recorded four strikeouts, the Yankees were evidently satisfied that they wouldn’t be interested in his services at the MLB level this year.

He was getting crushed in spring training and they gave him more time. He was pitching in extended spring training to build arm strength until recently. Just wasn’t happening.

He was very classy. He let Danny try to catch on with one of the other 31 teams and not keep him stuck on the Yankees if they were not going to get him back into the majors. That was a respectful move and Danny’s such a feel good story that another club may grab him…

… but was it as classy as every other GM who gave him the opportunity?

        oh wait

Boston. Can’t be worse than Josh Smith again. Must have been a contractual requirement or he asked for it. Certainly not much of a window. Good luck Danny.

That’s sad. I was rooting for Danny to have a little comeback. I hope he gets an opportunity with another team.

Gets eaten by a dragon…… Hope that does not happen to Danny. Then again would have been a good “highlight” in the scene of This week in Baseball in the original Naked Gun Movie.

I’d like to see Philly give him a a shot. They could use another bullpen arm.

Why not? It would not be a major league contract. Any team should be able to sign him to a minor league contract. If he can improve, he would be a draw for the feel good story for the minor league team and no risk nor any roster spot taken up on the 40 man. Little risk to be able to see if he could come back

I hope the O’s go for him, but you’re right, someone will bite on a minor league contract.

That’s a shame. Would’ve been really cool to see him make a good comeback after his aneurysm.
