As the Dodgers continue to try to pry closer Felipe Vazquez loose from the Pirates, ESPN.com’s Buster Olney reports (Twitter link) that the sides are at a bit of an impasse. It seems the Bucs would (quite understandably) like to receive soaring L.A. prospect Gavin Lux, a versatile infielder who has completely obliterated Triple-A pitching (.474/.553/.918 in 114 plate appearances with eight home runs and a 17:17 K/BB ratio) since a mid-season promotion. The clubs may well be engaged in a bit of a staring contest as the deadline draws near.
More news and rumors from the pitching market …
- The Rays may have faded in the AL East, but they’re not planning to go quietly. Olney tweets that the club is “doing work” on Mets reliever Edwin Diaz, making for an intriguing (if vague) connection. Beyond the obvious appeal of a high-charged young hurler who has shown a past ability to dominate like few others, there are a few other reasons to like this match. Diaz’s run of poor results will limit his arbitration earning power, boosting his appeal to the payroll-conscious Rays. And as Mike Petriello of MLB.com explains, there are plenty of reasons to believe that Diaz is every bit as good as ever before.
- Rival organizations “fully expect” the Diamondbacks to deal southpaw Robbie Ray, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today (Twitter link). Arizona GM Mike Hazen continued to acknowledge his club’s tricky middle ground while avoiding a firm commitment to a particular course of action, as Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. The top baseball ops man did acknowledge that there’s a possibility the team could pull off enough sell-side moves that it wouldn’t make sense to reload in the offseason. At the moment, the Brewers, Astros, and Yankees are among the teams with active talks or interest in Ray, per Jon Heyman of MLB Network (via Twitter).
- With a real shot at a much-anticipated return to the top of the heap in the NL Central, the Cardinals could yet swing a big deal. Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports (subscription link) that the St. Louis ballclub is interested in a controllable starter. Beyond that, the Cards’ precise plans remain a bit difficult to ascertain. The club is interested in lefty relief pitching, though that’s a trade deadline staple for many contenders. We haven’t seen the team connected prominently to any high-end hurlers, but a bold move seems tempting.
- We’ve seen the Yankees connected to a wide variety of hurlers in recent weeks, with the club focused primarily on starters but also entertaining relief upgrades. They’ve recently chatted with the Tigers about old friend Shane Greene, according to MLB.com’s Jon Morosi (Twitter link). Most contenders are no doubt at least checking in on Greene, who’s among the likeliest players in baseball to be traded in the coming days.
- Similarly, the Phillies have cast an exceedingly broad net. Their relief situation remains problematic; now, there are indications that David Robertson’s rehab may drag into September, as Nightengale was among those to tweet. Another name to add to the list of Phils possibilities: Alex Colome of the White Sox. Morosi tweets that there’s “continued interest” on the part of the Philadelphia organization.
What you got for Colome, Philly?
Sox must be waiting until the last possible moment to maximize return of any trade or stand pat.
Alec Bohm or Adam Haseley would be nice.
One can dream right?
That would be nuts but I don’t think that’s likely. I’d like to add former number one pick, Mickey Moniak to the list of “dream scenarios” for the White Sox.
In all likelihood, we’re probably looking at a best case scenario of Nick Maton and an A-baller like Kyle Young but I’m still hopeful.
I’d love Luis Garcia or Francisco Morales. If Jay or LGar help, I’d throw that in as well.
Sox can reinstate the “all Garcia outfield” on Sundays when they rest the regulars.
They might snag Medina, only because he is having a bad year, and has a frame that screams reliever, much like Lopez. But that would be about as good as it gets, unless they add Garcia and possibly Jay, both of whom would fill out Phil roster given injuries.
Can’t wait for this deadline to be over.
Why because their isn’t Trades been made?
Too much hype; no substance.
Feels
These rumors are too coincidentally spaced out.
I hear you
Cards getting Thor, pull the trigger Mo.
If the Pirates do trade Felipe to the Dodgers, I would really like to see them get Will Smith rather than Lux
I would take Gavin Lux, Will Smith or Dustin May.
You won’t get Lux and Smith. Ruiz and May would be reasonable.
They won’t get Lux , Smith or May . Ruiz + is possible but the other 3 untouchable
I agree. They will keep Lux, May and Smith, but Ruiz plus 2-3 other pieces they will do.
Than no trade. Lux and May and Beaty
Not going to happen. They’d probably move May. You definitely wouldn’t get both May and Lux. May, Downs and Mitchell white for Vazquez is more likely.
Perhaps with Will Smith’s emergence they’d rather center the deal around Ruiz as well.
We need May and Smith/Ruiz more than Lux. I have a feeling our pitiful GM is going to try to recoup prospects from that lousy Archer deal he made and deal Vazquez. Better get two of the guys mentioned, one starter and one catcher plus something else, like another potential starter. We have Newman and Tucker and Frazier for middle infield. As nice as Lux sounds, he isn’t needed as much.
Yea, that’s my main thing about Lux. I mean he’s a fine prospect, but the Pirates already have so many middle infielders with control, including Oneil Cruz, but they really lack young depth in catcher.
My hope is that Huntington’s initial ask is for Lux+ knowing that’s not going to happen but softening the Dodgers’ stance or Ruiz, upper level quality pitcher and a couple other pieces.
The Dodgers literally just promoted Smith to be their #1 C on the main roster. If Pittsburgh asked, they’d be hung up on.
They you shouldn’t get Vazquez. You have a price to pay and it will be steep – not just Lux.
Thats cute and all but Friedman is too smart to trade 2 of their top prospects for a relief pitcher. No releif pitcher is worth Lux striaght up let alone more on top of him. And no Theo trading Torres for Chapman is not a reason why the Dodgers will do it
Remember what the Yanks got from Chicago for Chapman as a rental player. Vasquez is under control for 4 1/2 years yet. It will take a massive haul,to pry Vasquez loose.
You could put together a realistic proposal – it doesn’t end at Smith not being available. Heck, most view Smith as the #2 catcher in the system – Ruiz has consistently been ranked as a better prospect.
The Dodgers have 3 prospects in the top 15 in Baseball, by most evaluators. And none of those 3 are Smith.
Yes but the Cubs give away their prospects.
Look what we got for Quintana!!
Will Smith is their starting catcher. Teams do not trade their starting catchers when trying to win a WS in the same year. Prior prospect valuations aren’t really relevant for that. Smith’s boosted his stock back up and has been considered a top 100 by multiple different outlets in seasons past.
Keibert Ruiz is 100% more in play than Will Smith at this point. Given Smith’s emergence I would imagine out of the Lux, May, Ruiz trio he’s probably the one they’d prefer to move. Which, given your argument about prospect valuations should be a good thing for their trade chances.
somehow include Edwin Rios, too. I like Lux for 2B. I know there’s a lot of talk about Newman and Tucker, but neither have the power potential that Lux does. I get the catcher aspect, though. I’d like to see Rios. we need power coming up.
Ruiz package
I like the idea of trading Edwin Diaz to the Ray’s for Vidal Brujan & Shane McClanahan. Seems like a fair return for a 25 y/o closer with 3 years of control left.
Do you guys really *need* Vidal Brujan though? He looks like he’s going to be a great lead-off guy and you guys seem pretty set in that regard with Jeff McNeill.
Honestly, it’s because of McNeil is why I think Brujan would be a perfect fit. A dynamic leadoff hitter with a .330 hitter hitting right behind him. McNeil is the perfect #2 hitter. I could imagine the amount of times the Mets would hit & run with McNeil at #2.
Doesn’t matter if they *need* it. It depends on getting enough fair value in the trade. Plus, McNeill can play anywhere.
When you trade for big league ready prospects it does matter if you *need* it. You can’t build a team of infielders like BVW did this offseason. The Mets have more guys who belong in the infield playing Outfield corners than any team in baseball.
i don’t think Brujan is SS capable. I don’t know what the hell you do with another 2B in queens. They can always flip Brujan or attempt to make it a 3 team deal to get something they can use. McNeil really needs to be at 2B but you already have the Cano impediment. There’s really no place to stick Brujan.
McNeil could play 3rd well. He actually plays well in the field at multiple positions especially considering he is learning to play the OF at the major leagues.
Trade Frazier & move McNeil and leave him there. He power doesn’t project for a corner spot but what could they do with Cano’s contract. Once the NL gets the DH things would get better for the Mets.
I want the dodgers to suck as much as the next Giants fan, but from a baseball standpoint, they need to go for it, if they are going to deal Lux for Vazquez don’t give up much more if it all, Dodgers will have him for the next 4 years and that there could be more valuable then Lux.
Big question, is Jansen willing to be a team player and go to a set up role???
Don’t give him the choice. He’s been an integral part of the Dodgers success but if there’s someone better to do the job then so be it, he’s going to get paid, he’s got a contract regardless if he gets to throw the 7th 8th or 9th
He would pretty much have to be a team player no? Vazquez has been much better than him so far and for what they’re paying Jansen he should pitch whatever inning(s) hes asked
He’s going to have to be. This year’s Kenley Jansen has improved peripherals from last year though. He’s certainly not the dominant relief force he once was but he’s been alright. He’s best suited to be a solid set up man. Going to be a very expensive one but that’s a sunk cost.
I remember him being okay with the prospect of adding Kimbrel, so I would think so. He knows he’s regressed this year.
Jansen hasn’t regressed, he’s in decline. Big difference. Some regression would be an improvement at this point.
Anyway, I don’t get all the discussion centered around Jansen’s feelings, as if management lets anyone on this team think of themselves as being special. If anything this FO takes that issue to its opposite extreme.
The Dodgers need to give up more than Lux for Vazquez – quite a bit more. If they don’t get two top prospects for starters from the LADs, I don’t trade him at all.
Two top prospects from the Dodgers means to Top 10 prospects in the game – they have 3 in the Top 12-15 depending on the source.
Not all farm systems are equal.
Rather see a package with Ruiz
Ruiz, Gonsolin, Stripling and a lottery ticket sounds about right
Trading Diaz would be stupid. 4 more years of control after this season. 4 years that are arguably going to be the Mets best chance at contention. Hope they don’t sell him.
The Mets aren’t contending for anything until they get new ownership and a competent GM.
Lol, you think the Mets are a good season from Dian away from contending?
The Cards should go big and call the Mets.
Who would you want from the Mets? Diaz?
Why go big with the Mets – we lose half our team after this next year to FA and old age … kinda need to keep some of these young guys that are doing well
Pirates need a catcher. They can have Russell Martin for Felipe Vazquez. That’s a fair trade for both sides.
I’m offended you’re banned
Idk I’m thinking Vazquez for Jansen, Kershaw, Buehler, Lux, Seager, Muncy, and Bellinger(all 100% retained) is fair
Pirates may need to add Josh Bell to this …
What about Barnes and maybe Gonsolin? If Barnes turns good..
You just get in from stupid town?
I feel Ray’s best fit is with the Yankees but something tells me Astros get him
Interesting to see who blinks first with the Dodgers/Pirates
Would love for the Braves to get in on Diaz but something tells me Brodie is not interesting in trading in the division
Think the Dodgers will wind up with Diaz.
Ruiz, Pederson & May for Diaz & Wheeler
I have zero confidence in NH from a Pittsburgh standpoint.
Not gonna happen if Dave Roberts still wants to try Pederson at 1B. Also, May is too high of a prospect for Friedman to trade him
I hope Neal is just asking for Lux in order to soften the Dodgers up for his real ask. The only way a Vazquez deal makes sense for the Pirates is if it can fill multiple key holes. If Lux is in the deal, they won’t get enough other pieces at positions they need to fill more than 2B.
If a deal for Vazquez is going to happen in the next 2 days, it’s because LA offered Ruiz and May as the centerpieces.
The Pirates need catching and pitching. Far more than anything else.
Taillon’s injury and Diaz’s regression have created big enough holes to justify trading Vazquez IF and only if they get the right elite pieces back. If not, then it’s a huge mistake that they should not make. They have 4 more years to get the right deal.
All I know is if the Dodgers don’t make a move there will be no World Series victory in 2019
Not necessarily, I feel that if they can get their young pitchers some experience they could win some playoff games
Some, just not enough. We know all about some already, thank you.
Hey Pirate fans what would it take to get Vázquez & Marte for Atlanta ????
Pache, Waters & Wright off limits
Top pitching prospect Anderson is available
As is Riley our rookie 3B/LF
We also have a catcher prospect in Contreras
For Vazquez and Marte? The Gwinnett Stripers should do it.
Pache and Anderson or Waters and Anderson.
You can’t make a trade for Vazquez and Marte while still keeping all three of Pache, Waters and Wright. Sorry
If you want Wright by all means
Then Anderson is not going anywhere
It’s on or the other between them
Waters & Pache untouchable
The White Sox will not trade their Closer Colome. They have been patiently waiting and building with a goal of being competitive in the year 2020. They can’t do that if they don’t have a Closer for 2020. It would be self-defeating.
Keeping Colome as the Closer in 2020 would be self-defeating.
Also, Sox aren’t competing in 2020, with or without him.
Sox keeping Colomé isnt self defeating at all. He has been one of the best closers in the game this season, and if a team doesn’t want to pay for it, they keep him next year. Sox should make a competitive leap next year as well, but could use a Garrett Cole to help bolster this rotation. Keeping Colomé helps them compete next year, as bullpen is one of the biggest questions in 2020 for tbe Sox
They have Bummer for cheaper.
They will have to keep looking because Lux is only going to be in Pittsburgh when the Dodgers play the Pirates
Agreed Lux isn’t going anywhere
Yep and yep.
If there pirates want him in a return, then guess what, dodgers simply don’t get their man.
And im sure the Dodgers just hate having to keep Gavin Lux. Really stinks
If giving up Lux means the Dodgers get the dominant RP they need they would be fools to not do it. Lux looks like he’s going to be a stud but they have a loaded lineup and good enough options at 2B already. They would be getting 3.5 years of Vazquez and would likely become the odds on favorite to win the WS. If they lose in the WS again this year while holding onto their top prospects again it’s going to be a tough sell to their fans
Dodgers are not going to trade Lux for a relief pitcher. Period.
With their current bullpen the Dodgers aren’t winning the WS. Period.
So who is winning the world series then?
Whoever plays the Dodgers in the World Series?
That’s been the correct answer for a few years running now.
The Astros and the Yankees would both beat the Dodgers in the WS
You are one bitter Pirates fan @joshbelltolls
No. I’m a happy Penguins fan. I’ve seen them win 5 championships in the past 30 years.
But, what would make you say that?
Because I don’t think they should give away their good players just because the big market teams want them and feel entitled to them?
And you are one stubborn Dodgers fan @firedaveroberts
Don’t do it Dodgers. Lux is a 2B/SS that can hit. Highly valuable.
White Sox should be all in on Greinke!
Yes, he is older but could be a great influence on the young guns.
mlb.com/news/red-sox-eye-pitching-at-trade-deadlin… At bottom is says GM says Thor and Bauer will be gone by Wednesday and Astros and Yankees.
Felipe Vazquez would make sense for depleted dodgers bullpen, because the only bright spot has been Kenley Jansen, but will Vazquez take a set up role over being the dodgers pitcher, but if you are winning it doesn’t matter where u pitch
They need to upgrade their pen. It doesn’t have to be a closer. I’d rather get two better bullpen arms and give up less than going for an elite closer at an irrational price..
Do not deal Vazquez if you’re not getting Lux in return. Huntington needs to be smart here. You don’t HAVE to deal him this year if you aren’t getting what you want. I’d want Lux, Verdugo and a PTBNL pitching prospect if I were in his shoes. Vazquez is too valuable in a season where relievers and closers have been blowing games more than ever before.
Dude you’re crazy Lux Verdugo and more. I agree, Pirates don’t and will not trade him if that’s what they expect ever.
Anything short of that is robbery. This is the one of the top closers in the league. Especially when you get control of him for that long with that contract.
He would be a Pirate for life if you were in charge. Promise you when he does get dealt, you’re going to be very very very disappointed!
We gave up our best hitting prospect, a young pitcher, and another one of our best pitching prospects, for basically the Trevor Bauer of last year’s deadline (although you can argue Bauer is a lot better). For a closer as reliable as him, and being able to get a top prospect, young outfielder that doesn’t play everyday, and a farm player would make sense. And this pitcher is lights out, unlike Archer.
He’s as good this year as edwin diaz was last year.
No one’s giving up star prospects for a reliever, they are to up and down
When you’re 1-2 pieces away from World Series Championship(s) I’d assume you’d go all in for the best possible players in the market. That’s Vazquez for closers. The Mariners got the Mets’ 1st round pick of that year (Kelenic) for Diaz and Cano. Why can’t the Pirates get players with that upside?
Yeah, and that Archer-for-talent trade is one of the worst trades in recent memory. What’s your point?
Just because the Pirates blew it then, doesn’t mean others should do the same now.
All you did was give an example that destroys your own argument.
Guess I really don’t have to respond back. These guys are doing a good job of that. There’s some salty Pirate fans on here tonight! lol
Actually 0 correlation as to how any of that is considered salty, it’s logical. Vazquez has a lot more value than Archer. Teams will go for pieces that help them win. Teams should have to give up good pieces in order to get other good players. What’s salty about that?
The best comparison that’s been brought up to Vazquez is Diaz? Really?
Talk about a friendly contract for one of the top players in his position.
No correlation as well as to how that destroys my argument considering Vazquez is an actually valuable asset compared to Archer who was mid-tier.
The Pirates giving up the world for declining Archer is not a reason any other team would do something that stupid. Especially the Dodgers.
Like the Shelby Miller trade, dumb deals don’t set the market, they get ridiculed.
Poop central. If you use Kimbrel as a comp, and he’s the best one to use, then Vasquez has an excess contract value of around $30M. Verdugo alone, at the level he’s performing and under team control for five more years, is easily worth that much and arguably a lot more, all by himself. Fans of trading teams always want to clean out the other team’s cupboard but that sure doesn’t mean it’s going to happen.
Anyhow, I hope the Dodgers have a plan B. This Vasquez thing looks very doubtful.
Exactly, if they don’t get what they want, then it’s pretty simple, dodgers don’t get Vasquez.
Comical. Closer position is the most overrated position. I’m sure even Friedman has some regret in opening up the wallet for Jansen. At this point they just need a couple of good bullpen arms to upgrade their current pen. It doesn’t have to be an elite closer. I doubt this trade gets done. Pirates asking for too much. At best the Dodgers will offer Ruiz and maybe another decent but not elite prospect or two. Not getting Lux, May, Smith, or Verdugo.
Jeff Passion just said on the Chevy Clubhouse that it’s about to burst the Trades because GM’s have done all their information. Bullpeners and Middle Infielders most likely to.
It would be quite interesting if the Yankees had Greene, Ray and Gregorius – the three key pieces of a three way trade in 2015
Ray wouldn’t be a bad get. No matter what, the Brewers need a starter controllable through at least next season since the Wild Card is looking like a real possibility at this point, and we all know anything can happen in a one-game playoff.
Or….
The Brewers could go all in–get Ray, Minor, maybe a reliever like Giles–and try to overtake/run-away with the division. I know their farm system isn’t as deep as previous seasons (trades/promotions), but there’s still some talent down there.
These Pirates/Dodgers trade scenarios in this comment section are hilarious…
Not really, he’s controlled for another 4 years and the Dodgers really want him. The pirates can ask for whatever they want, and if they don’t get it, he stays a pirate, and theyll have to look else where to help that weak bullpen.
And the Pirates will have to look elsewhere to improve their farm system. You see how that works?
Sounds like the Rays… interested in a top player who is having a down year so they can keep arbitration numbers down.
Why not be interested in a talented player that is doing well and can help your team down the stretch? They are always looking at ways to save a buck.
At least they are looking for a pitcher. They have needed a starter since opening day. This opener bs needs to stop. That has killed their bullpen the past two year. It’s okay as a short term solution to injury or giving the starters a breather… but as a way to run your rotation? That’s not too bright.
Their length guy goes about as long as a quite a few teams 5th starters. The Rays don’t buy overperforming guys like Colome and Greene. They go get guys like Diaz who are underperforming their peripherals. They don’t overpay for crap. The opener is still working just fine for them also. Adapt or fall behind. Diaz would be the exact guy I’d want in TB.
And the Ray’s fade at the end because they invest in under performers that they hope can get hot. An opener is fine on occasions, but as a regular part of your rotation for the entire season, no. It’s a novelty that worked for a short time. Games that use an opener use between 6 and 7 pitchers in a game. A regular game uses between 3 and 4 per game. That really taxes your bullpen over the course of a year.
None of this is true. You’re confusing an opener with a bullpen day.
Look at Stanek’s starts. Many times there are 6 pitchers used for these games. Mostly 5, an occasional 7. And sometimes they do this 3 times a week.
He’s started games 5, 9, 14, 18, 20, 24, 28, 29, 35, 38, 41, 42, 46, 50, 52, 55, 60, 63, 66, 71, 73, 78, 81, 85, 87, 95, 97
He pitches 1 or 2 innings. The next pitcher usually throws 3 innings. The rest is filled in by the bullpen. This means the bullpen is used heavily a couple times a week. They usually only throw an inning or less, but still they are used.
They are 17 and 10 when they do this… so it is effective. But it really depletes the pen.
Stanek has started 27 games so far. He has also entered games as a reliever 14 times. He has appeared in 41 of the teams 108 games. 55.2 innings.
They should have a regular starter for these games. It would save your pen. Stanek could still be used as a bullpen arm. That would save you 2 pitchers every 2 or 3 games.
Ruiz, May, Downs or Peters, one of Gray/White/Gos + lotto ticket (Kendall?). Dodgers get Vazquez and Kela with Pirates paying all of Kela’s contract.
The Dodgers want no part of Kela. They had a shot at him last year and passed, probably because of his personality issues. Now that this has become an even bigger issue we have to know they wouldn’t touch him with a ten foot barge pole.
Do you know just how ridiculous that ask is? No reliever in the sport has ever returned two top 25 prospects and another 50 FV Prospect. You’re asking for that + Jeter Downs or DJ Peters and hey why not toss in Jeren Kendall while you’re at it.
This trade deadline is going to blow your mind with returns if you think that’s anywhere near a realistic package.
They’ll go get Ken Giles for Tony Gonsolin or Josiah Gray and a lotto ticket long before that ever occurs.
Why do they think a reliever is going to blow away the Chris Sale get? The proposales are completely illogical.
Moncada was the top prospect in all of baseball. Kopech was #12.
Please cite the pre-1017 top 100 lists (they were traded after the 2016 season) that had Moncada #1 and Kopech #12..
Then understand FG’s #8 and #12 prospects for any Closer is crazytownbananapants.
Would take tucker and Felipe for mays and lux
Imo a simple trade of Clint Frazier and a low level prospect for Greene. Tigers get a bat they so desperately need and the Yankees don’t have to trade a player on their active mlb roster
Yankees call the mets… andujar, florial, garcia and ptbnl for thor and diaz
and the Yankee I mean cashman’s infatuation/quest with ever so slightly above MLB average pitching continues.
You get what you pay for (happless, CC, lance Lynn, Jaime Garcia etc…)
Bargains are hard to find.
I can see the narratives already.
NH holds out for Lux, doesn’t get him “He was being greedy. Coulda got all these other guys.”
NH takes anything other than Lux. “He got fleeced again! Shoulda held out for Lux.”
NH keeps Vazquez. “He shoulda sold high. This why the Pirates suck. They don’t wanna win. He is a terrible GM.”
NH trades Vazquez. “They always sell off their best players. They are cheap and don’t wanna win. Nuttings wallet.”
Two weeks ago, Huntingdon apologized for making the Melancon for Vazquez trade because of the convoluted narrative that the media feeds the “fans”.
The people who love to accuse them of kicking the can down the road and not wanting to win are the loudest voices calling for a tear down….so they can say they don’t want to win and just kicked the can again.
The people who love to scream about “Nutting’s Wallet!!!!” are calling for a tear down which would allow him to roll out $40 million payrolls for a few years.
Little of it makes sense.
You got that right swartnp7, damned if ya do, damned if ya don’t
In this case, It will be better to be damned if you don’t if what is being offered is not top tier. No rush to move him right at this moment. I also agree with @forwhomjoshbelltolls in the fact that the local Pittsburgh media loves to bash the Pirates because it gets all of the yinzers wound up and the flood the phone lines to complain and they feed off all of the convoluted narratives that the hosts continually trot out. The complaints all seem to be the same in just about every other fan base on these boards. Teams are cheap. They don’t want to win. They are throwing away opportunities and why are they picking up cast offs from other teams.. Seeing many of the good deals that NH has made, I trust that if he does move Vasquez, it will be for quality and not just a bunch of spare parts that don’t fit with the current club. Everyone keeps whining about the Archer deal when not a soul expected Glasnow to break out like he did. He was considered by many to be a bust and would never be more than a AAAA pitcher. He did break out but also suffered an injury. Like Taillon, suffered a setback in rehabbing. Meadows never hit for any power his entire minor league career. He had a career April and May. Since June 1st he is hitting .233 with 3 home runs. Back to what he was all through the minors. He was expendable because of Reynolds. When the deal was made, the big take on Baz was that he had the stuff but had no control over any of it. All this means is that the Archer deal is still up in the air as to who, if anyone won big. Neither side looks good at the moment. Other deals that NH turned out very well. Time will tell on Vasquez and or Marte. deals if they happen.
Agreed. Well said by all.
@gozurman Pirates better hang on to him. What some of the fans are expecting in return, it’s safe if the GM makes him a Pirate for life.
What do you think is a fair trade between the Pirates and Dodgers?
Glasnow has great stuff could not throw strikes. Meadows was still considered a stud and baz still was a potential number one starter when he made that trade. It was a bad trade on paper from the get go not to mention archer had two pitches and his slider was starting to get hit in Tampa. The way the pirates operate to begin with made no sense to do that trade if they were not going to get anyone in free agency.
Sorry Buster Olney!!! You know very well that John Mozeliak of the Cardinals CAN NOT make any impact trades!!! Plus loses all impact players he does acquire to free agency. After impact player do leave, their comments are not favorable concerning the Cardinals Front Office!!!!!
Yankees interested in other teams junk it should say.
As a Yankee fan I’m waiting to hear the excuses –
1. Prices are just to high
2. We are standing still we like our position. We have a feeling CC and Happ are going to turn it around.
3. There was nobody worth while on the trading block.
4. We grabbed Sonny Gray 2.0 and gonna turn him into a #1.
5. Smoke screen after smoke screen.
all true plus
6- getting seve and betances back is like acquiring a hof ace and the second coming of Mo…..
Why do the pirates need another infielder? Trade Vasquez for catching and pitching
The Braves could help some. Yankees get Shane Greene from Detroit and Starting Pitchers Mike Foltynewicz and Kevin Gausman plus reliever Dan Winkler from the Braves. Detroit gets teo MLB top 100 pitchers Kyle Wright and Bryse Wilson plus Drew Lugbauer (UM Star Catcher) from the Braves. Braves get Mathew Boyd from the Tigers plus Outfielders Clint Frazier and Estevan Florial from the Yankees.
To restate: Detroit gives up Boyd and Greene and gets Wright, Wilson and Lugbauer.
New York gives up Frazier and Florial and gets Greene, Foltynewicz, Gausman, Winkler.
Atlanta gets Boyd, Frazier and Florial and gives up Foltynewicz, Gausman, Wright, Wilson, Winkler and Lugbauer.
Braves can flip Florial and Frazier plus others in a deal for Sterling Marte and Vazquez.
