Twins Acquire Marcos Diplan From Brewers

By Connor Byrne | July 31, 2019 at 2:04pm CDT

The Twins have acquired right-handed pitching prospect Marcos Diplan from the Brewers for cash considerations, Robert Murray of The Athletic reports. The Brewers designated Diplan for assignment earlier this week.

The 22-year-old Diplan ranked as FanGraphs’ 18th-best Brewers prospect as recently as the offseason, but that wasn’t enough to keep him in the organization after he struggled to start the 2019 campaign. He has made 30 appearances (five starts) at the Double-A level this season and pitched to a 4.99 ERA/4.41 FIP with 9.83 K/9 and 5.77 BB/9 in 57 2/3 innings.

One hour left on the trade deadline and they are wasting valuable time on the DFA acquisition. Wow

yeah I had to laugh at the DFA paragraph, briefly, before I remembered he was a brewer.
…wait a minute… so the twins released the guy, and then the brewers pick him up and sell him back to them?… I thought the Reds had no clue what what they were doing… Twins giving them a run for their money.

That just put the Twins over the top in 2019! All we were asking for was another MLB ready and competent relief pitcher. I love it when Diplan comes together.

I will assume the brewers put the them on hold for an hour or so when they called that might explain why no other deals were made by the twins

I wonder what the Twins will do with all those empty spots on the 40-man roster? They cleaned house on their relievers and haven’t filled them back in really. They have 37 players on the 40 man roster and 3 of those are on the IL. Are Hildenberger and Gonsalves ever to be seen of again?

Zac Gallen would’ve been a good pick up..the day after he held our bats to only 2 runs…at least we still have Smeltzer…he’s a decent starter…
