Yankees Place Luke Voit On 10-Day IL

By Jeff Todd | July 2, 2019 at 11:06am CDT

The Yankees announced today that first baseman Luke Voit is headed to the 10-day injured list. He’s said to be dealing with an abdominal strain; the placement is retroactive to June 30th.

To take his place on the active roster, the club promoted first bagger Mike Ford. In other news, the club brought up southpaw Nestor Cortes Jr. in place of righty Chance Adams, who was optioned back to Triple-A.

Voit has been sidelined for the past few days but had hoped to avoid an IL placement. It seems he’ll require at least a bit longer to rest than initially expected, though there’s no indication to this point that it’s a long-term malady. The AL East-leading Yanks have already weathered several other, more significant injuries without batting an eye.

Take a lesson from the Mets. Beat up your reporters. Fail at managing a bullpen. Blow saves day in and day out. Have the worst manager on the planet. Trade two good prospects for a terrible, no-drugs Canó and a “Closer” who blows everything. Have DeGrom, Wheeler, and Thor all be much worse than the 2018 versions. Fail to do proper physicals (Lowrie). And, if you follow this advice, you might just be able to be helplessly mediocre

Any other team, any other year, you’d be right. These Yankees, this year, he’ll be out for a minimum of 6 months. Hangnails turn into a cascading series of nagging injuries, that get re-injured, before they ever get back on the field. So frustrating. Never seen a Yankees team “cursed” with the injury bug this bad before. Something has to be changed/fixed.

    Gardner in daily
    Ford in daily

Getting weaker by the day with a SP staff that’s taxing the bullpen because they can’t get past 5 innings. or even 3.

Time for a change time to end the era of housing old men.

Yankees overachieved if anyone one here thinks they are going to continue sending starters out their that can only last 2 innings STAY TUNED.

Get ready for a few hot flashes in a pan Gardner followed but the biggest 0 streaks you’ll every see.

Amazing how we talk aboit the same thing as Yankee fans for the past what now? 7+ years?

10 day IL in Yankee land mean 2 months.

Did gardner fart on your wafffles or something? He is the only OF that has stayed healthy pretty much all season and gives you solid output year in and out including this year. He also plays all 3 OF position including center. Right now outside of Hicks (whom has proven to be very injury prone) you have none on the 40 man. Also Gardner is playing better than Hicks so what is the argument to keep Hicks starting everyday over Gardner? If anything move Gardner over to cf and put someone else in the corner.

You can say Frazier and Tauchman “can” play center but between the 2 of them they do not have 10 games playing there in mlb for their careers.

They’re trying to turn Frazier into a viable starting left fielder. Only way to do that is to give him reps in left field, in the minors. That’s the plan they have laid out for Frazier once it became obvious that he’s not ready to play left field in the majors, and that’s what they’re gonna stick with.

They’re not gonna mess with that plan for the six games left before the AS break, just to DH him a few games. They’ll just give most of those ABs to Sanchez (who’s a little banged up, and could use a break from catching) and the rest to Encarnacion (because they don’t want to use him in the field six days in a row).

This site reported the Padres may want to trade Wil Myers— maybe NYY could be interested? I would think a prospect along the lines of Domingo Acevedo plus Ellsbury (to help defray the expense) could work. I know Ellsbury has a no trade clause, but SD is a nice place to rehab.

Did you see the Yankee lineup? They’re loaded. Myers probably wouldn’t even make the playoff roster on this team.

Why? They already have DJ and Encanacion (with Ford off the bench). They don’t need another guy to cover 1B.

No way have there been more Meyers than Teheran trade proposals. You’d think Teheran was pitching as well as Kershaw by all the proposals for him.

Myers would be a nice utility guy for the Yankees off the bench covering OF and 1B. Unfortunately he makes way too much money for that. Plus he is one of the few players with a longer injury history than Stanton. If the Yankees picked him up he would hit the IL on the way to NY due to air sickness.

Can we just agree that this team has the worst strength and conditioning coaches in all of MLB? If they taught this team the basic fundamentals that high schoolers are more proficient at this stuff wouldn’t be happening. Stanton hurt himself trying to advance when he had no chance & Voit can barely run the bases at his healthiest. No one can steal bases, bunt or hit & run. It’s a home run or a strike out unless you are DJ. So our solution is Tauchman (minor leaguer for life) or Mike Ford who also can’t run, hit and plays a below avg 1st base. Bring back Frazier, Estrada and focus on the future. Yes Gardner is healthy but he is horrible & showing his age. A few lucky homers, he can’t bunt, advance runners, steal bases or field anymore. Boone is the luckiest mgr I’ve ever seen and makes the most boneheaded moves that makes me want fall asleep Girardi back. Can anyone on this team bunt? Sorry they’ve had a lot of luck strictly because of prior nobody’s stepping up. This won’t last forever and if we continue with a pitching staff that is old & cant get German back to his old self we may make it to the playoffs, but a team with solid pitching will beat us. I’m a fan since birth but this team needs to make some changes and stop giving losers like Holder, Gardner, Tauchman and too many others reps when the future is in our youth.

holder is what 25? gardner is solid and in a perfect world Frazier would’ve taken over in LF. Your post makes little since seeing as how most of the team is well under 30. their age isn’t an issue.
