Nationals Likely To Activate Max Scherzer Thursday

By Anthony Franco | August 18, 2019 at 11:36am CDT

The Nationals will likely activate ace Max Scherzer on Thursday, manager Dave Martinez tells Jamal Collier of MLB.com (via Twitter). Scherzer threw a simulated game yesterday and came out unscathed.

Of course, a Scherzer return will be a boon to a Washington club holding onto a 2.5 game in the Wild Card standings. The Nats just lost their closer and have one of the game’s worst bullpens, so their starting rotation takes on outsized importance. Scherzer, meanwhile, remains arguably baseball’s best pitcher. His 2.41 ERA is tied for second leaguewide (minimum 100 innings), while his combination of strikeouts (35.3%) and walks (4.7%) is the best in MLB. Scherzer’s been among the best pitchers of this decade, having accrued 200+ innings with an ERA of 3.15 or below every year between 2013 and 2018. While the injuries will keep him from that 200 inning mark this season, he remains dominant as ever on a rate basis, making his return one of the most noteworthy around the league as we approach the season’s stretch run.

Can’t happen soon enough. The Nats need to keep winning to knock the pathetic Braves out of the race already.’

Also when was the last time they tested Turner, Muncy, and Bellinger?

Are you a brave fan who is extremely pessimistic or a fan of another team and just a troll? You’re almost as bad as chisoxcity and is other account chitown311

If you actually watch the team and not look at their inflated record, you will know why. No pitching in the majors, minors, and we know AA will not make any significant moves to fix it.

But your team is probably the second best team in the National League. I mean they aren’t making it pay the Dodgers anyway, but you’re fighting them really. Stop being so pessimistic and enjoy this run and the playoffs. Odds are it will be a decent run

I don’t care about being bottom feeders to the overachieving Dodgers. You can’t beat them, it is another waste of a year. There is no reason to believe this will change anytime soon.

You have high standards. Try being a Sox fan. We can at least both say we’ve won a championship

It is not high standards. You can’t consider yourself a good team until you prove it. The Braves are limping to the playoffs and there weak overall lineup will be exposed further when they face good teams and better pitchers more consistently.

Now if Swanson and NK come back, my opinion on the offense may change. Until then, they need there 5-8 to hit because today’s game is a perfect example of what will happen when Freeman decides to take a week off and Acuna finally exposes himself as a selfish player. Speaking off, I’m glad he did. Young or not, selfishness exudes off of him. Glad many get to see it now.

I have zero hope for the pitching though. When Folty and Teheran are in your rotation, you are not winning a short series.

As an observer, I can tell you that Faulty and Teheran are terrible and should be gone. Maybe then, we can start to call the Braves pitching average as a baseline.

I think that Max Scherzer is a sure fire HOF,getting in on the first ballot.
One of the starting pitchers to really earn his substantial salary.
His string of 200 innings per year is very impressive.
    He is a great competitor.
He is the type of player who makes a team into a team.
