Royals Acquire Adam Moore From Rangers

By Connor Byrne | August 7, 2019 at 9:14pm CDT

The Royals have acquired catcher Adam Moore from the Rangers, according to Texas’ executive vice president of communications, John Blake. The Rangers received cash considerations for Moore, who will now report to Triple-A Omaha. Meanwhile, Rangers catcher Tim Federowicz has joined their Triple-A club in Nashville. The Rangers outrighted him over the weekend.

The Moore swap will go down as a rare August deal in a league that no longer features a waiver trade deadline. The teams were able to swing it because Moore’s on a minor league contract. He inked that pact with the Rangers back in mid-February.

The 35-year-old Moore has spent the season in Nashville, where he has hit .255/.363/.349 with two home runs in 124 plate appearances. Moore has combined for a more powerful line of .265/.327/.406 with 65 HRs across 2,526 career PA at the minors’ highest level. He has seen major league action in the past with several clubs – including his new team, the Royals, from 2012-13 – but hasn’t totaled more than 20 at-bats in an MLB campaign since 2010. Moore has batted .199/.239/.412 in 312 trips to the plate in the bigs.

You must be thinking of someone else. Moore started in Seattle.

Because the season is not over with and you have to have players to play.

he’s going to AAA, he isn’t coming to the main roster unless Gallagher who was scratched from the lineup tonight is hurt. I figured they would let Melendez come up if so

I’m sure they could have, but with the no trade rules it’s harder. Plus, Moore has been there before so he might already know the system in Omaha.

yeah, to be fair, i figured he was hitting worse in AAA. didnt figure he was coming up, but also figured there were better options available in AAA at the time. probably one of the better options to be had to be honest.

MJ Melendez is not on the 40 man and I don’t think I would bring him up this early anyway. melendez Still needs to be able to play in AA.

Oh look an AUGUST TRADE. I remember a few weeks ago when people called me a stupid **** on baseball websites when I would say some minor league players can be traded in August.

They can happen, but the key is that the player hasn’t been DFA’d or outrighted this year. If it were to happen, it would have to be with someone who signed a minor league deal either before the season (i.e., Spring Training invite) or during the season but hadn’t had his contract selected. For example, the Mets signed a bunch of veterans to minor league contracts before the season, but called up, then either kept or DFA’d several of them. One of the veterans who could still be traded is Gregor Blanco. Theoretically, I think Devin Mesoraco or Rene Rivera could be traded to someone desperate for catching. Scratch that on Rivera because I think he was DFA’d by the Giants. Mesoraco was placed on the restricted list when he refused to accept his minor league assignment.

Hopefully the cash considerations turns out to be international signing money.

No one is giving you valuable international money for Moore, even BAL would not do that.

So does that mean that the Rangers can still trade Hunter Pence since he was signed to a minor league contract?
