Yankees Acquire Joe Mantiply From Reds

By Connor Byrne | August 9, 2019 at 10:03am CDT

The Yankees have acquired left-hander Joe Mantiply from the Reds for cash considerations, per an announcement from New York. Mantiply will report to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

This is the second deal we’ve seen this week in a new MLB landscape that no longer includes an August waiver deadline. Unsurprisingly, it’s a rather minor move – one that will deliver a player who wasn’t on Cincinnati’s 40-man roster to New York’s top minors team. It’ll be the second run with the Yankees for Mantiply, who pitched in Scranton in 2017.

Now 28, Mantiply entered the pros as a 27th-round pick of the Tigers in 2013. He briefly cracked Detroit’s roster in 2016, throwing 2 2/3 innings, but that’s the extent of his big league experience. Mantiply has fared nicely in Triple-A ball, though. He has amassed 117 1/3 innings of 2.99 ERA pitching with 7.8 K/9 and 1.8 BB/9 during his time at the minors’ highest level.

It’s just a minor move to add minor league depth. Gives them a free arm to take a look at during spring training next season. No reason to get excited or upset over this.

A new bar has been discovered: people will still rip the Yankees for not making a big trades even when it is against the rules to do so.

They have the best record in baseball lol and have their ace, second best reliever, a #3/4 SP, 3 offensive starters all coming back soon. Yankees are good, lol

It’s not a move for next year. He qualifies for 6 year MiLB Free Agency unless the Yanks put him on the 40-man this winter, which isn’t likely. Unless they’re seeing something there nobody else does, which, while not impossible (especially for the Yanks this year), is a fairly long shot.

The move is made for the AAA roster so they have extra arms down there when they have to call someone else up. Mantiply isn’t coming up, whoever he replaces will be the one coming up.

Brilliant move to shore up the AAA roster. I mean, where else would you get someone to pitch AAA when your system is absolutely stocked with infinite talent? The cash man strikes again. 18 seasons, one championship. Total success story for the wealthiest sports franchise in the country. I bet the Patriots are snagging guys for their taxi squad as we speak. And I heard the Warriors picked up a new towel guy. This is what successful franchises do, shore up all possible areas of need. Because you never know when some team is going to totally fleece you for a desperately needed asset.

tap the brakes on the wealthiest sports franchise in the US…Jerry Jones and his hair piece have something to say about being the most valuable franchise in not only the US, but the world, owning the Dallas Football Cowboys…I really hate saying this as I can’t stand them or the Yankees…

According to Forbes, after the Cowboys at #1, there are three European soccer teams at numbers 2, 3 and 4. The Yankees come in at #5 with an estimated value of four billion dollars.

If it was the Braves, or anyone except New York, Boston, LA, DC and Chicago there would be loss of players and severe consequences. When will the MLB stop favoring these “blue teams”.
