Today marks the deadline for teams to submit to Major League Baseball their initial spring training player pools, which can comprise up to 60 players. Players are not eligible to participate in either a spring training or regular season game until they are included in the pool. Teams are free to change the makeup of the pools as they see fit. However, players removed from a team’s 60-man (for reasons unrelated to injury, suspension, etc.) must be exposed to other organizations via trade or waivers.
Not all players within a team’s pool are ticketed for MLB playing time, of course. Most teams will include well-regarded but still far-off prospects as a means of getting them training reps with no intention of running them onto a major league diamond this season. A comprehensive review of 2020’s unique set of rules can be found here.
The Athletics’ initial player pool consists of the following players, per various reporters (including Martín Gallegos of MLB.com).

Lucas Lester Luetge!
But good for him, he had a great comeback year on the farm for the Diamondbacks last year, 2020 would be his first MLB action since 2015. He was having a nice spring so far too.
LouisianaAstros
Looks like a minor league team

No

half this roster would destroy the PCL
jaysrule1399
Is it the half that is actually decent?
erauber
Yea half are. The others won 97 games last year.
oldmansteve
The one with 7 all-stars and 3 top prospects?

Astros so shook by the A’s mountain of depth, it’s going to be great watching cheaters get busted then their window closed early by a way-scarier Oakland.
DarkSide830
as good as this roster is the Astros are still scarier, but nice try.
arc89
astros lost their best starter from last year and did not replace him. A’s added to top 20 prospects into the rotation. So i doubt the Astros scare the A’s now they don’t have the cheat button to use.
arc89
Louisanaastro? I guess you don’t watch very much baseball since they won 97 games last year. What they do not have is a bunch of old hanging on to a spot players.
Strike Four
A’s could put 2 different contenders on the field using that list, most stacked team that’s not the Dodgers.
A’s / Dodgers World Series coming this fall, you read it here first.

A very deep roster overall, but I think Oakland could use some veteran depth at catcher. Allen and Murphy are both promising, but also inexperienced. There’s also not much behind them in the event of a setback or injury
DarkSide830
that’s what Hiem and Perez are for

Its only 60 games. Murphy has injury history thats worrisome with a short season that might be less of an issue. I do like heim as potentual back up, part time guy. If khris davis sucks again, i could see allen as DH option or they rotate outfielders into DH. If that happens maybe piscotty to DH abd get one of the younger guys like brown bolt or fowler in corner outfield. And who the heck knows what happens with kemp, mateo, baretto, machin who they all cant keep when rosters fall back to 26 spots. Plus they have pinder as a utility type already.

Murphy has great defense. His arm was classified as the best catcher arm in the minor leagues 2 years ago.
