Giants Designate Andrew Triggs

By Jeff Todd | August 12, 2020 at 4:11pm CDT

The Giants have designated righty Andrew Triggs for assignment. That’ll create 40-man space for Trevor Cahill, whose contract was selected.

Triggs only made one appearance this year, coughing up three earned runs while recording only a single out. He’s still looking to reestablish himself in the majors after his career was interrupted by surgery to address thoracic outlet syndrome.

From 2016-18, Triggs provided the Athletics with 163 innings of 4.53 ERA pitching, though ERA estimators have pointed to greater promise. Triggs owns a career 4.17 FIP, 4.11 xFIP, and 4.09 SIERA.

Hope you guys do a Trade Deadline ranking with the players most likely to be moved. We are only 2+ weeks away from the deadline already. Let’s have some fun.

on the giants I wouldn’t be surprised to see someone inquire about cueto, solano – I don’t see them moving yaz or selling low on rogers – they would probably part with some other bullpen pieces though

I expect Gausman, Smyly, Tony Watson and Tyler Anderson to also be on the auction block.

I think they’ll keep Anderson but I agree with Scott re his other three. I expect a lot of interest in Gott. Relievers are critical this year and he’s good. But I hope they keep him for the future. They have some pitchers in the system that are 1-2 years away (hjelle, Corey and a couple names escaping me now). Solano stays, needs to be regular dh tho cuz his fielding has not been good).

I can see Donny barrels traded to a contender. Dude can hit and we need all the farm hands imaginable.

How many days before Zaidi parts ways with Big Bird Belt? The guy is useless.

If he’s playing first base last night they probably won cuz Flores’ defense is “useless”. Belts hitting is what’s useless—I’ll agree with that.

That was supposed to be the plan, belt comes in late in the game for defense. 7-2 game? Don’t need Flores’ bat anymore (the dude CAN hit—can’t argue that) so put belt in for late inning defense

I can see that, but it’s obvious Belt has zero passion or desire to play the game. It’s incredible in that the giants are paying him $17,000 million for that kind of effort. I’m a nobody, but in my humble opinion it’s time to cut your losses and move on. If the organization is rebuilding, place the guy on the 10 day IL and give a youngster an opportunity to perform.

Here lies the other problem, KAPLER has the Dodgers mindset where he thinks can mix and match some of his players all over the diamond. It is clearly evident these guys are all out of position. If Flores goes to first base and at gets the out, there’s a good chance they win 7-6, but nothing’s guaranteed. Flores is a natural SS or 2nd baseman, and he panicked in the play by throwing to second after initially taking several steps toward first base.

I’m a life long loyal and passionate fan of the Giants organization and it pains me to see them blow a game which they clearly should have won. For the second game in a row, Cueto pitches his heart out, only to have it blown by sub-par performance. If they are truly rebuilding, cut your losses with Belt. Bring up the kids and give them an opportunity, it can’t be any worse. Ownership doesn’t have to worry about the fan base coming games this year anyway!

I’m a lifelong fan too. Since mid sixties. Crawford, btw should take some blame for leaving bag. AND, it’s difficult to know how the play affected Gott. He’s been good.

Problem with belt is his contract is thru 2021. But he absolutely needs to be on IL.

I do disagree with your belief he doesn’t care. It’s impossible to come to that conclusion for sure. I think he’s injured and therefore frustrated. He played with a bum knee all year last year. And who is their future first baseman that’s in Sacramento? I don’t think there is one.

For me, it’s Sandoval that needs to go. If anyone obviously doesn’t care it’s the guy who obviously doesn’t care about his health.

And thanks, it’s good to post with someone who didn’t become a giants fan in 2010

Yes sir, and back at ya. My father took us to lots of games at Candlestick Park where we froze our tails off. I actually returned the favor and took him and my sons to the stick to catch the last 9ers/rams game at the stick that resulted in a tie!

As far the play with Crawford, I’m not so sure he realized he needed to lay down a tag since Flores never touched the bag. In high school we were taught to yell/scream tag so the SS knew what was required of him.

As far as Belt, maybe I’m a little old school where I am used to players showing their frustration/anger on their sleeves. I love to see passion for play, while avoiding arrogance. After last nights strike out, he seemed to walk back to the dugout emotionless and I guess that’s why I assume he doesn’t care.

The A’s played small ball in the extra inning and got the win. They moved the runner to third and eventually scored on the sacrifice fly. I would have loved to have seen Belt lay down a bunt to move the runner over to third. But it wouldn’t have mattered since Dubon watched a meatball in the heart of the plate. The rest is history.

I agree about Sandoval, but he at least shows some emotion/frustration. He also seems to play his best when he’s right around 275, but it hasn’t worked out this year.

Like I said, I am just a passionate fan who’s expecting to see the same passion from players that are earning millions to play a game!
