Mets Designate Hunter Strickland

By Connor Byrne | September 1, 2020 at 3:12pm CDT

The Mets have designated reliever Hunter Strickland and transferred infielder Eduardo Nunez to the 45-day injured list, Tim Healey of Newsday was among those to report. Those moves help make room for righty Ariel Jurado, whom the team recalled.

This is the second time this year the Mets have designated Strickland, whom they brought back to their roster Monday four weeks after his previous DFA. Strickland wound up throwing a scoreless inning with two strikeouts and a walk last night, but it wasn’t enough to keep him in the fray. The 31-year-old has now tossed 3 1/3 innings this season and yielded four runs (three earned) on five hits and four strikeouts against one walk.

Nunez, 33, has been even less of a factor for the Mets than Strickland. He totaled two at-bats on the opening weekend of the season, but Nunez has been dealing with left knee problems since then. It’s unclear whether he’ll return this year.

Idk why the NYM called Strickland up to just DFA him.

They had a need for a day and he was extremely expendable. And it worked too

If they don’t really want him, why didn’t they explore a trade? Might have gotten a low-A lottery tickets for him? Always worth a flier.

Awful this year, awful last year. Plenty of bad relievers out there. There not getting anything for him. Doesn’t make sense to even bother.

Strickland is a head case. Not a team player.

Gee Strickland’s numbers are better than Ariel Jurado?
Guess he is younger but does that still excuse an ERA around 6!

I would have kept Strickland and dumped Oswalt or Lockett who have proven they can’t pitch in the majors; at least Strickland proved it once.

That being said amongst three bad pitchers

As far as Nunez goes; another injured infield acquisition?
Not as bad as BVM’s 20 million signing of Jed Lowrie; didn’t BVM ever hear of passing a medical exam.

As a person who had major knee surgery Lowrie’s PCL laxity could have easily been picked up on an office range of motion exam let along a MRI.

Another client of BVM? 20 million wasted.

I only hope that Cohen dumps BVM when he buys the Mets.

New ownership won’t dump BVW – who has done a very good job. I understand most fans can’t see that, but they don’t have the background knowledge or experience to know better.

May not have to wait for Cohen to get rid of BVW, Jeff Wilpon has the hammer in his hand & would love to do it b4 he turns over control to Cohen, if he ever does.

Lockett’s already gone. Seattle claimed him off waivers.

Edwin Nunez = Jed Lowrie, except Nunez got his ABs in his first weekend and then was never seen again…while Lowrie got his in the last weekend of 2019 and will never be seen again.

I guess the background knowledge or experience to know better is a condescending way for you to say winning is not the object in baseball; as BVM and the Mets have not.

You must be related to BVM; a friend, or on the payroll.

I could bore everyone here and list all the bad trades BVM has made backed up by all of NY sports writers and show hosts who share my opinion but I won’t as we all painfully know them.

I guess the NY sports media world isn’t evolved enough to know of BVM’s secret greatness.

    How about one though:

When BVM acquired Keon Broxton and made him sound like Mookie Betts; where is Broxton now? BVM is no judge of talent.

Wheeler doing great in Philly while Wacka Mole and Poorfello both suck.
Diaz is still a nightmare that’s why we had to give up young starting pitching talent to sign another reliever.

Betances is hurt now who would have not seen that coming? BVM

BVM has spent a ton of Mets money and given up a ton of young talent and has not even qualified for one Wild Card playoff spot.

Getting dumped after one appearance is the kinda stuff that makes relievers punch walls.

Most people write BVW; Mets GM. I write BVM; the M is for Moron.

His pickup and pick to start tonight Jurado has already given up 5 Earned Runs in only 3 innings against the Orioles!

Does that surprise anyone but BVM when his career ERA is around 6.

Goodnight all and all the best!
