Enter The MLBTR Free Agent Prediction Contest

By Tim Dierkes | November 19, 2020 at 9:32pm CDT

It’s time for the MLB Trade Rumors Free Agent Prediction Contest!  Click here to enter your picks for the destinations for our top 50 free agents.  The deadline for entry Friday, November 20th at 11pm central time.  You can edit your picks until then.  Further contest info:

  • After the window to make picks has closed, we’ll post a public leaderboard page so you can see who’s winning the contest as players sign with teams.  We’re going to use entrants’ full names on it.  So, if that concerns you, please do not enter the contest.  Entries with inappropriate names will be deleted.
  • We are also collecting email addresses, which I will use to notify winners.  I may also send occasional promotional emails for Trade Rumors Front Office.
  • If a player signs between now and the close of the contest, that’s a freebie, but you still need to go in and make the correct pick.
  • After you submit your picks, you’ll receive an email from Google Forms.  In that email, you’ll see a button that allows you to edit your picks.
  • We will announce the winners on MLBTR once all 50 free agents have signed.  We will award $500 to first place, $300 to second place, and $100 to third place.  We will also be giving out ten one-year memberships to Trade Rumors Front Office.  Winners must respond to an email within one week.
  • Ties in the correct number of picks will be broken by summing up the rankings of the free agents of the correct picks and taking the lower total.  For example: Tim and Steve each get two picks correct.  Tim gets Trevor Bauer (#1 ranking) and James Paxton (#20 ranking) for a total of 21 points.  Steve gets Ha-Seong Kim (#6) and James McCann (#14) for a total of 20 points.  Steve’s total is lower and he’s ahead of Tim for tiebreaker purposes.

If you have any further questions, ask us in the comment section of this post!  Otherwise, make your picks now!

This is going to be rough. Especially discerning what may actually happen compared to what I would like to see happen.

I would LIKE to see the Brewers sign DJ LeMahieu and Jackie Bradley Jr. but I never get my hopes up about free agent signings in Milwaukee. At least Doug Melvin is gone so we won’t end up with Adam Wainwright on a 4 year deal…

Hiura is set at 2B for the Brewers and Lorenzo Cain is signed for one more season. Brewers could use an upgrade at 3B though

San Diego. He’d be a legit Ace and gets to play with his buddy Clevinger. SD has invested this much $ they might as well go for it and add a big piece to the rotation.

The Nats need a 4 starter like Taijuan Walker and could get a big name starter next year. I think they would like to extend Turner and Soto. I feel like Bauer would be good fit but only like a 3 year 60 mil contract

If the Angels sign Didi Gregorious or re-sign Simmons with Fletcher at 2B and Rendon at 3B i think Rick Porcello could actually be a decent signing for the Angels. A groundball pitcher who can use the defense and has been durable his whole career is something the Angels desperately need

I think a team should play to the fact that he does believe in himself as much as he does. 20-25 mil base salary. With 15-20 mil in incentives based on innings pitched and Cy young votes. That way, if he’s bad, it doesn’t kill a team and if he’s as good as he thinks he is, then he gets paid fairly.

I was thinking the Angels, but I picked the Mets. I don’t believe Cohen is going to go crazy and buy everyone, but I do think the Mets will sign two of the top 10 FA’s at least, maybe even both Bauer and JTR. It would certainly be a statement.

I can see for a modestly priced DH to add some pop to the lineup, ie, Encarnación. Otherwise, maybe try and get a couple veteran SPs on pillow contracts (Paxton, Odorizzi)

He has said 3-4 relievers. Will add 1 MLB level starter and probably a couple other flyers. 2B is the only position where it would be worth grabbing a big time free agent, but even that is questionable with France, Moore, and Long all battling for that spot.

Not advocating tanking, it’s just my opinion that it would be funny to recognize the worst prognosticator of us all. I don’t think anyone would intentionally give up a chance at the money for the honor of finishing last, but if last year’s results are any indication I may have a better shot at last place than first!
