Giants Outright Three Players

By Anthony Franco | November 1, 2020 at 5:28pm CDT

The Giants announced a series of roster moves today (via Maria Guardado of MLB.com). Right-handers Tyler Beede and Reyes Moronta, outfielder Joey Rickard and catcher Aramís García were all reinstated from the 60-day injured list. Rickard cleared outright waivers and was assigned to Triple-A Sacramento. As a player with more than three years of MLB service, Rickard can choose to reject the assignment and become a free agent.

Also clearing outright waivers were catcher Tyler Heineman and left-hander Anthony Banda. Like Rickard, both players had the right to hit the open market. Banda, though, has already agreed to a new minor-league deal with San Francisco.

Rickard, a former Oriole Rule 5 pick, was limited to six plate appearances in 2020. He’s a career .246/.300/.371 hitter. Heineman has taken 62 uninspiring trips to the plate over the past two seasons but amassed a solid resume in the high minors. Once a well-regarded prospect in the Diamondbacks’ and Rays’ systems, Banda has been limited by injuries to 51.1 innings across four MLB seasons. The southpaw has a career 5.96 ERA/3.67 FIP. San Francisco’s 40-man roster sits at 37 players.

    Yes, Meh. The San Francisco Giants organization is chock full of mediocre talent. Nobody cares

      Well, Giant’s fans care, but why do you keep posting if you don’t?

      There’s about a dozen players in the Giants’ minor league system that are anything but mediocre talent.

        If there is only a dozen in the whole minor league system then youre kind of proving his point are you not? I’m aware that it is better than it has been … but that’s not saying a ton

          Marco Luciano. Future top 5 mlb prospect. Some say he could be the best prospect in baseball too. Our farm system is a top 10 and scouts say it is well balanced. Only thing that is somewhat lacking is a true ace potential starter. Kyle Harrison is looking like he could fill that void. He’s only 19 and pumping 97 with a wipeout slider that compares to Chris Sale. Seth Corry is also looking promising, his curveball is devastating. Don’t sleep on Logan Webb too, he can be a solid 3rd starter.

          @Dixon
          Not to be sarcastic by any means, but where do you go to get news about Harrison’s performance on the field? He’s a 2020 draft pick and the minors were cancelled. Is someone reporting on the MLB alternate training sites? I’ve completely missed that

          Minor leaguers are playing in instructional leagues right now and the Giants use an alternate Twitter handle to post about their prospects current progress

    Glad Heineman stayed with Giants. He’s good behind the plate and a switch hitter. I think Moronta is done, unfortunately. He suffered a bad shoulder injury and h’s doubtful to ever regain his 95+MPH. Rickard is a glove first OF who should probably go somewhere else.

      I know a .190 average (in 2020) looked bad (in limited ABs), but I think Heineman is well worthwhile holding on to. He’s a very good defensive catcher, with a terrific arm, and has always hit well in the minors.
