The Diamondbacks have selected right-handed reliever Chris Devenski’s contract, the team announced. In a corresponding move, the club placed righty Tyler Clippard on the 60-day injured list. Clippard’s dealing with a capsule strain in his throwing shoulder – an injury that will cost the free-agent pickup at least the first couple months of the season.
Devenski was another offseason addition for the Diamondbacks, though he had to settle for a minor league contract after an injury-wrecked 2020 with the Astros. He threw just 3 2/3 innings before undergoing elbow surgery last September.
At his best, Devenski was a multi-inning weapon in Houston from 2016-17, during which he combined for a stingy 2.38 ERA and posted a 21.8 K-BB percentage in 189 innings. But Devenski hasn’t been the same since. Between that excellent two-season run and last year, he managed a 4.56 ERA with a K-BB percentage of 18.0 over 116 1/3 frames from 2018-19. However, he did throw seven scoreless, four-hit innings with seven strikeouts against three walks this spring.
Retreads in Arizona. Another yawn, another do-nothing team. Pitiful ownership.
It’s called small market team with surprisingly apparince in playoffs here and there and with a world series title in their first 4 years of expansion not bad I mean they don’t run the dodgers or Yankees payroll
That World Series was under different controlling ownership. This group has produced a 1&done playoff team every 4-6 years….not that impressive to be honest hence the lack luster attendance. The metro pop of Phoenix is 5-million folks. There maybe favorite teams elsewhere for some of them but a lot of folks would get behind the local meaningful team
It’s still more impressive than teams like the mariners just to mention 1 with none playoffs since 2001 or let alone a word series title.
Current ownership is pitiful, I have to agree.
But Devenski has done great in ST, so this move makes a lot of sense.
Small sample size. He must tip his change up because no one swung at it since 2018.
Diamondbacks thought they’d get a bullpen piece by Clippard coupons, but that didn’t work out (kinda like this pun attempt).
