The Phillies will not contend until they change the direction of the team. Wheeler should be moved, his value will never be higher and the team isn’t going anywhere.

Assuming you are a fan of a team that wants him? We’re not years from contending….

nonsense, the sky is falling in spite of the fact that we’re all of three games under in May.

Lol. We are 8 games back in L column to the Mets already and 7 back in the WC already. This team stinks. I don’t know maybe Phillies fans just love under .500 baseball. We have been playing it for so long some just accept it.

We are tied for the worst run differential n the division and we are 10-18 on the road. Yea but it’s only June 1st.

        • DarkSide830

i dont care how many games out we are. again its May/June. you take care of your business for a few weeks in this dogfight of a division and you might run away with it. the Mets might br ahead, but they are mortal and are beating up on, what, the D-Backs and Orioles? yeah, hardly insurmountable.

        • 13Morgs13

Lol. This team hasn’t taken care of anything in 2+ years with this core. This team stinks

The Phillies are far away from contending. They have way too many holes. All they are doing right now is wasting prime years of JT, Harper, Wheeler, Nola. The Phillies stink

Who doesn’t want their home ball park to also have a “village” around it? To have bars, restaurants, theaters, music venues…. give me something to do both before and after the game.

I’ll gladly go for just a ballgame but would love to have dinner before and drinks after

not enough MLB parks with waterparks in them imo.

It’s good for the fans who don’t live nearby, but most of these villages are given to the teams along with a tax-financed ballpark. The teams pay nothing close to market value for the land or the building and reap all the revenues at public expense.

In the case of the A’s the $1B earmarked for the stadium is to be privately financed. Also, in the case of the A’s their site is similar to that of the Giants when they built their stadium, an industrial area reasonably close to downtown.

I went to the Pac Bell Park ground breaking, and there was literally nothing in the area at the time, except one low-rise building, a parking lot and multiple empty lots. The area is unrecognizable now as a vibrant mixed-use community. No one was bothered by the development since no one was there.

Anyone that doesn’t want to live near the park doesn’t have to, since they would have to move to do so.

I don’t believe cities should build sports teams stadiums, but if the city wants to give them a sweetheart deal on the land, that will pay itself back in the long run, why not? If it’s as successful as China Basin in SF, it will.

          The Athletics want $855
          million in infrastructure
          upgrades! That’s a lot of
          government cheese.
Plus the TIF to pay for
          all this takes up most
          of downtown cannibalizing
          taxes the city needs
          elsewhere. It’s a big ask!

Taxpayers who don’t care about baseball for one. Taxpayers who do care about baseball but don’t make 100k a year to take their family to a game get dinner and see a show in one night 20-30 times a year for two.

Someone should have asked who the next manager to be fired is. Obvious answer after the last few weeks clearly Charlie Montoyo

Jays only a game and a half back of the Wild Card.

More likely to be Woodward, Snitker or Black.

Yes but Charlie is actively causing the jays to lose games. For instance brining chatwood back for a another inning after going up by one and chatwood having a semi bad half inning already. To then take 3 straight 4-5 pitch walks before even getting a man up in the pen. Like come on

D-backs are 1-13 the last 2 weeks and 5-23 in May so Torey Lovullo has to be on any short list of hot seat managers.

To respond to the question and answer about the Tigers pitchers….

The Tigers starters are performing very well. Sure, they have some talent, but give a lot of credit to pitching coach Chris Fetter. I believe he is a rising star.

I’ve always wondered about the post-show SNL conversations too. Not just cuz the band is playing and the audience is cheering but cuz they all had a whole week together. It can’t be more than just simple congratulations which is fine but they can do that a few minutes later and simply acknowledged, praise and thank the audience in that moment.

Brandon Crawford’s had the highest WAR up to this point, and was a top ten SS last year. Giants would be fools to not keep him through 2022. Can’t believe the question of how long before we dump him still comes up.
