Padres To Place Trent Grisham On 10-Day IL

By Connor Byrne | May 24, 2021 at 3:51pm CDT

The Padres will place center fielder Trent Grisham on the 10-day injured list with a heel bruise, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune was among those to report. They’ll recall outfielder Brian O’Grady to take his roster spot.

This adds to an already injury-shortened year for Grisham, who began the season on the IL because of a strained hamstring and didn’t make his debut until April 9. When healthy, though, the 24-year-old has been fantastic. In his second season as a Padre, Grisham has slashed .301/.383/.515 with six home runs and seven stolen bases in 154 plate appearances. And Grisham, who won a Gold Glove Award in 2020, has accounted for four Defensive Runs Saved and put up a 0.9 Ultimate Zone Rating in the field in the early going.

On the rare occasions the Padres haven’t used Grisham in center this year, they’ve mostly turned to Tommy Pham at the position. Pham has had a difficult start to the season (.193/.342/.216 in 149 trips to the plate), though his production has taken a turn for the better this month.

As soon as the Padres get Tatis back Grisham goes down again. They can’t seem to get ahead. At least they keep winning.

Was a good trade for Padres. Got him for a utility infielder and a number 5/6 starter. Brewers gave up way to early on Grisham.

You just knew that after Grisham’s playoff blunder for Milwaukee that they weren’t going to keep him. Sure enough, Preller took Grisham off their hands. One of David Sterns’ infrequent mistakes.

Grisham was also a catalyst for the Dodgers’ run in 2020. He seems to really inspire other teams to do well.

@chunks So you’re saying the Dodgers weren’t good enough to win on their own? Ok

If abrahams is ready to balance the lineup by mid season and the Padres can get another good starter ( Scherzer) they will win the division, abrahams can play second and cronenworth LF.

CJ Abrams is the Padres #2 prospect and #8 overall who also shouldn’t be in the majors yet as he’s barely out of high school

Abrahams speed was exceptional, as was on display in the Oscar-winning film Chariots of Fire, but I didn’t know he played baseball too, Those UFO sittings must be his time machine flying around.

CJ Abrams has a grand total of 216-AB, or 1/3 of a full season, above High School ball.

Padres should target one of the Reds OF’er. Winker, Castellanos or Naquin

      Not a bad idea.

      Naquin, Doolittle, and Gray

Padres could use the OF depth and Gray in the rotation. Doolittle would be another lefty out of the pen.

@padre – maybe you need to define “something”. A WS? No, a playoff series in 2020, yes. Best record in MLB, yes.

Does your level of hate mean that if there isn’t a WS then it is all it worthwhile? You life as a sports fan must be thrill!

I want to know why Snell can’t get anybody out. Tonight he walks Willy Adames twice in 4 innings, and the guy can’t hit his weight and strikes out before he gets off the team bus.

From what I think I saw, he started out with the FB for a couple of innings and then gave up on it going back to the slider that he couldn’t throw for strikes and they didn’t chase and boom it’s 5-0 Brewers.

I wonder if it’s “between the ears” ala Paddack last year where he sticks with what he wants no matter how ineffective it is. Last start and first 2 innings he as leading with FB and it worked. But he likes his slider which he can’t locate this year for a strike. Last year Paddack stuck with a FB that wasn’t moving like it should.

Longtime, I think you are exactly right. In fact, Snell,Darvish,Musgrove and Paddack have all been reluctant to use their fastball until recently. I put this on Rothchild. When they use their fastball more, they are more affective. Paddack has used it more his last two starts and looked good. I do think Snell is a mental case on the mound. I’ll never forget earlier this year when Darvish walked Kershaw with the bases loaded and two outs without throwing one fastball. That was the winning run. The next batter was Betts and his first two pitched were fastballs that he blew right past him. Makes absolutely no sense to me.

Snell has been horrible. A lot of talent but no results. Does much better when he uses his fastball and works at a faster pace.

Hudson, talking about this year. He’s been pretty bad. Definitely nothing close to the Ace the fans were told they were getting.

It’s May. Pitchers have poor stretches. That said, Snell will be a great #2 to have on staff, and has had ace caliber stuff, but you can’t talk about “this year” as if you have already had a season’s worth of baseball.

Holden, it’s obvious I mean so far this year. If you look back at his career he’s really only had one good season. He rarely if ever in the last few years goes over five innings. How can anybody consider this being an ace?
