Astros Place Carlos Correa On Injured List

By Anthony Franco | July 9, 2021 at 5:46pm CDT

The Astros announced they’ve placed star shortstop Carlos Correa on the COVID-19 injured list. Fellow infielder Taylor Jones has been recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land to take his spot on the active roster.

Correa has been sick, manager Dusty Baker told reporters (including Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle) before the team’s announcement of his IL placement. There’s no indication he’s actually tested positive for COVID-19; players can be placed on the COVID IL merely for feeling virus-like symptoms. There’s no minimum term for players on the COVID IL.

It has been a banner season for Correa, who’s bounced back from an average 2020 campaign to perform at an MVP-caliber level. The 26-year-old has hit a stellar .288/.385/.510 and popped sixteen home runs across 358 plate appearances. He’s also played excellent defense at shortstop and already been worth around four wins above replacement in the estimation of both FanGraphs and Baseball Reference. Both outlets have Correa among the ten most valuable position players in the league this season.

        Switching it up.
Hey, I broke out my camo Stetson to try & shake things up. Good results to this point. I feel all synched up with my ballclub. Gonna wear it tomorrow too.

“Y’all” got GGBG’d. Good to see. God love all the stupid grinders, man.
Got Cole going tomorrow. Be sweet to lockdown the series win.

It’s hard to explain what it’s like to be a Yankee fan. So many fan bases hate us so much. Ya know? Not without reason, uh? So for me, this Houston club is just the latest in what seems to be an unending line of teams giving us their best shot. But – personally – I don’t view them as a rival. Just another edition of: Team X Soon To Be Forgotten.

But these teams do seem to carry a certain level of disdain for one another. Which is how sports should be played.

Anyway; I keep saying it. But this Yankee squad is going to be tough to kill.
        Bet.

          I don’t think it’s disdain; I think it’s mutual respect.

Yanks played really really good actual baseball. Keep doing THAT and you’ll be back in this thing in a month.

          Congrats on game 1.

I can’t help but love Gardy.
He’s certainly looking his age this year. & has a tendency to wear down even more so in the second half. Got us a win last night though. May be running out of – ya know – Good Games.

I honestly don’t think they like each other very much.

I appreciate your take on BA & offense. & aesthetically, it was a good game. But this offense is built on the premise of hitting home runs. If the Yanks don’t hit the baseball over the fence we just aren’t going to be that effective offensively. How Cash put us together.

          Well, you know.
That was yesterday. Gotta get up & get ’em again today.

“Cole battles to blank Astros: ‘That took guts’
Yankees ace allows only 3 hits with 12 K’s on season-high 129 pitches

Three strikes separated Gerrit Cole from a shutout and the Yankees ace snarled atop the mound, barking a few choice expletives that began with the letter “F” into the face of his manager. On this night, in this ballpark, absolutely no one was taking the baseball out of his right hand.

Cole’s start had been in jeopardy days prior, having received IV drips during the club’s visit to Seattle. Bracing for a short outing, the Yankees instead watched Cole dig deep for one of the team’s gutsiest pitching efforts in recent memory, blanking the Astros on three hits in a 1-0 victory on Saturday in his first start at Minute Maid Park as a Yankee.”

“Probably one of the great ones I’ve ever seen, certainly in a regular-season setting,” manager Aaron Boone said. “It’s a big weekend for us, with him coming back here for the first time. Honestly, two days ago I didn’t know if he was going to be able to make the start. Not only does he go out there, he does that. That’s about as special as it gets.”

Observed Astros manager Dusty Baker: “He reached back at the end. It was similar to Tom Seaver. In the late innings, he would kind of ditch the rest of his pitches and rely on the fastball, especially the high fastball.””

Was that baseball, or was that baseball Ducky?

          straightforward from here :
          1. Cole single-handedly drags Yankees back into contention as, inspired by a HERO, Yanks go on a major tear starting tomorrow.
          2. Cole wins Cy Young, MVP, plus winning 4 of his 5 starts in post-season, losing the 5th one 1-0 in the 13th on an error by Judge, Altuve circles the bases as it rolls to the wall.
          3. Cashman to Cole : “‘k, who we need to pick up?” Cole : “JV & Correa”

          Ducky down with all that.

I am pretty much the Lone Ranger on the board. Even my fellow Yankee fans – a great group of fellas – are calling to throw in the towel on ’21.
          Nope.

Too many good players on the roster. & – more importantly – we are the damn Yankees. We don’t rebuild. We don’t tank. We always play meaningful baseball. Always.

My grandpere was taking me to The Stadium since before I can remember. Saw Chambliss off Littel. How could I ever be a fan of another team? I am absolutely one of those “entitled Yankee fans”. I’ve made peace with it.

          Camo Stetson for the sweep.

Yes, what could have been. . .

At the time J.R. Richard was like a giant to me. He was impossibly big. The biggest man I had ever seen or imagined.

Those teams of the early/mid 80s would have been legendary if he had not had the stroke.

Imagine a rotation of Ryan, Richard, Niekro, and Mike Scott?

Vern Ruhle, Don Sutton, and Bob Knepper were also starters during this time and very good at times.Easily good #5 guys.

Knepper at his best could utterly shut down the opposition, throwing that lollygag curve and never breaking a sweat.

Except that he wasn’t mean, Richard was Bob Gibson scary to dig in against.

I have NEVER floated a trade proposal in my life, so here we go – Yankees send to Cubs Stanton, Sanchez, and top starting pitcher prospect in exchange for Bryant, Marisnick, and Chirinos. Yankees win way more games.

Stanton is a better hitter than Bryant

I extra don’t care for this deal & without even texting Cashman I know he’d feel the same way.

Camo Stetson couldn’t finish off the sweep. German. That guy, man. But the Yanks have leaned way too heavily on our pen. Need to add a starter. Pineda?

Some times, Ducky, a loss like this can really bring everyone together via serving as a wake up call and all of a sudden they start playing better and string together some wins. We’ll have to see if that happens to the Yankees or not.
