Brewers Place Christian Yelich, Jace Peterson On COVID List

By Mark Polishuk | July 27, 2021 at 1:39pm CDT

The Brewers have placed Christian Yelich and Jace Peterson on the COVID-related injury list, president of baseball operations David Stearns told MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy (Twitter links).  Yelich has tested positive for COVID-19 while Peterson is on the list due to contact tracing.  Stearns noted that Yelich had already been fully vaccinated and is exhibiting mild symptoms, though the outfielder is expected to be back after the mandatory 10-day quarantine period.

To fill the two open roster spots, Lorenzo Cain is being activated off the 10-day injured list and Pablo Reyes was called up from Triple-A.  Cain was expected to return from the IL today, following an absence of almost two months while recovering from a hamstring strain.

The most important news is that Yelich is feeling relatively good following his positive test, though the former NL MVP will now be sidelined for the third time this season.  Yelich had two earlier IL placements due to back problems, costing him close to five weeks’ worth of action.  This nagging back issue has bothered Yelich for a few years, contributing to his below-average performance since the start of the 2020 season.  After his last 522 plate appearances, Yelich has hit .221/.370/.397 — a far cry from his .327/.415/.631 slash line over 1231 PA in 2018-19.

The Brewers are known to be looking for hitting help prior to the trade deadline, and losing Yelich will only add to the team’s search.  Peterson has also been a good addition to the roster over 50 games 161 PA this season, hitting .244/.373/.397 (good for a 109 OPS+ and 113 wRC+) after signing a minor league deal with Milwaukee this past winter.

It isn’t known what Cain will be able to provide after his second IL trip of the season, and the veteran has mostly been an offensive non-factor since the start of the 2019 season.  Cain has hit only .256/.327/.369 over his last 762 PA, as he has been hampered by multiple injuries and also elected to sit out much of the 2020 season.

“They” are correct. “It” works because Yelich has only mild symptoms, will not require hospitalization, and won’t die from it. Get the shot!

And what are the chances that someone in the physical shape Yelich is in would have to be hospitalized or die sans vaccine?

People his age do and have died from Covid. Only small minded ignorant people don’t understand that getting the vaccine will stop this horrible virus. Years ago they made it mandatory to give everyone polio shots. Nobody cried around saying it was a violation of there rights. We all took the shots and lived healthy happy lived. Why is this any different? Whooping cough and mumps were other examples of shots that people didn’t get their panties in a bunch over. Take the shot people. Don’t get sick and die or don’t get your parents kids or grandkids sick. Take the shots knuckleheads.

Saying people have is not an answer to the question, what is the chance that people in his demographic would. The fact that your post condescends others as knuckleheads, after failing to make that differentiation is comical. Unsurprising, but comical.

Wrong sir, wrong. Herd immunity was reached in 1918 because everybody was exposed.

        • BravesNutter01

Another wrong assumption. Herd immunity happens when everyone is exposed. Vaccines actually slow the process down and when viruses mutate they almost exclusively become weaker.

@zach Hey the seatbelt law sucks! I don’t know how old you are but I collect classic cars and too many times over the years I’ve been to court to prove a car did not originally come with or was ordered with seatbelts. The seatbelt law like the helmet law was lobbied by insurance companies. It’s bs. This is America and I believe it was Ron Paul that said people have the right to be stupid! 🙂

HEY IDIOT, vaccines were definitely around then, they just didn’t have the technology to find one before everyone was exposed!
They didn’t have CRSPR technology then, but we do. We can now change the genes in a living body, but you don’t trust science? Funny to have that mindset while using a device completely made possible through science…something tells me you don’t understand irony either…
And just to teach you something factual, the first vaccine was created in 1798 to combat cow and small pox…take five seconds and look it up!
Stop acting like you know anything about anything, defer to the experts (and even your cult leader trump) and get the damn shot!
Stop being so selfish and unpatriotic and do a very small thing to help the rest of the country/world!
You know you had to get vaccinated just to get into kindergarten, right? So what’s the problem now? You’re pissed you don’t have smallpox or polio?
This sh&t is ridiculous, you’re ensuring this thing sticks around by not getting vaccinated, but you won’t stop bitching about it and just help end it!? Insane.

People do have the right to be stupid. (hell, many voted for Ron Paul’s son). But they don’t have the right to make others pay for their stupidity by having higher insurance premiums for the care of the morons who don’t wear seat belts or for the anti-vaxers who get Covid and either infect children or who take up hospital beds, thus raising our premiums/ taxes.

Pretty much everyone who is dying now isn’t vaccinated. That’s not fear mongering that’s fact.

It’s also fact that people who contract the virus develop long-lasting symptoms that can impact quality of life. The vaccine also reduces risk of symptoms.

65% of people in the UK hospitalized with the Delta variant are fully vaccinated. And the little zinger about 100% of people hospitalized aren’t vaccinated is false. As of May 2021 the CDC stated that it wasn’t counting breakthrough cases (much like with Yelich) in the official numbers anymore. That’s why you see that being thrown around like it’s gospel.

HEALTH PROFESSIONALS have noted that the virus can cause severe heart damage.

There have likely been numerous heart failures as a result of COVID exposure. I know two people under the age of 55 who died after having COVID from heart attacks, and another who had one. This is reflective of medical findings.

Probably time to stop using PCR tests, especially on vaccinated people. The guy who invented them didn’t even think they were trustworthy. I’m vaccinated, and under no circumstance would I take another test or quarantine, or put a mask back on.

They need to do testing for contact tracing, because there are breakthrough cases. And in case you forgot, there are millions of Americans who cannot get the vaccine right now, notably small children and certain immuno-compromised people.

The vaccine and masks are just as much about protecting other people as you.

I’ve never understood people that say, “trust science”. Even science doesn’t trust science. That’s how the whole field works, constantly questioning and retesting old conclusions. Do you mean trust evidence? Trust findings? Otherwise you just sound like you’re regurgitating talking points you’ve heard elsewhere.

I read up on that. There’s too much disinformation. Anything he said related to Covid-19 is patently false, as he died before anyone even knew about Covid-19 (if you don’t subscribe to the idea it was planned). The info taken out of context was a quote about him talking about the fact that PCR could not detect the viral load of the AIDS virus.. But, ya know, you can choose to believe what you want.

Definitely a lot of commitment for an average player. Especially a team like Milwaukee that isn’t known to carry a high payroll.

It is interesting though. A player has a monster year or two, signs a hefty contract, and then falls flat. Seems like that happens more often than we think.

Brandon Crawford is in a contract year…..look at his numbers compared to recent years. . Crazy.

I’ve always really like Yelich, but the Crew had him under control for a while, too. Seemed unnecessary at the time, even though people were lauding it. Had plenty of arguments on here about why it wasn’t prudent. Backs are a fickle thing, hopefully Yelich finds a way to avoid having it ruin his career.

With this new aggressive variant taking hold some are projecting as high as 200,000 people a day getting it in the US. With half the population still unvaccinated death tolls are expected to rise. 99.2 percent of all deaths that are occuring today are happening to the unvaccinated. Simply put if you’re unvaccinated you’re taking a serious gamble. If you’re vaccinated you have a much higher chance of not only surviving but simply having minor to no symptoms at all.

        1. The KNOWN risks associated with getting any of the vaccines are in the manufacturer’s literature, as with all medicines.
        2. NO ONE has any idea yet what other risks there might be, as we are in the near term, and those would be manifest over a longer term.

Here, this is from the CDC :

Reports of adverse events following the use of J&J/Janssen vaccine suggest an increased risk of a rare adverse event called thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome (TTS). Nearly all reports of this serious condition, which involves blood clots with low platelets, have been in adult women younger than 50 years old.
A review of all available data at this time shows that the J&J/Janssen COVID-19 Vaccine’s known and potential benefits outweigh its known and potential risks.
However, women younger than 50 years old especially should be aware of the rare but increased risk of this adverse event and that there are other COVID-19 vaccine options available for which this risk has not been seen.

Yeah a choice to not get vaccinated is a choice to perhaps kill thousands of people.

Not trolling, serious question. How does not getting the vaccine hurt others? Unless you’re saying vaccinated individuals can’t spread it? , Is that true? Once you get the vaccine, you can know longer be a carrier and spread it?

          Please enlighten me.

        • themed

Because you can get it and spread it to other ignorant people that aren’t vaccinated. The more people vaccinated the more likely the virus doesn’t spread Einstein. Wake up get your shots. Get your polio mumps and measles also. Never mind those were already forced upon you morons.

There is really no limit to what you would force on everyone for “the public good”, is there?

        • BRUINBLUW

Rhetoric and insults aside, you never really answered my main question. Are vaccinated individuals still contagious, or no?

        • themed

Most likely not contagious because they most likely will not incurred the virus. If they would get it no hospital stays or deaths. It’s not hard to understand people. Try to use common sense if you have any.

If vaccinated individuals are most likely not contagious, then why is Yelich being quarantined?

Yeah man, people who disagree shouldn’t be allowed to live. We all should think the exact same way. No diversity of thought whatsoever.

We’ll need to invade part of Canada in order to replicate the climate of the gulags, so that’s not until phase 2.

          1. Who was talking to you?

          2. For posting rambling, grammatically errant comments with horrible takes that clearly aren’t intended to foster discussion.

          3. TONS of people have done that.

          4. Have the Padres traded Wil Myers for Noah Syndergaard yet? :^)

I know many hospitals have implemented that their employees get the vaccination or lose your job. Very thankful this is starting to happen. Hope more companies follow this policy. So yeah then you still have a choice. If you want to be all high and mighty to refuse the vaccine then find another job. Love it!

It’s fascinating to me how it’s the Trump haters that love the vaccine and the Trump lovers that hate the vaccine. It just shows you that most folks use no logic when it comes to politics.
