Mariners Place Jake Fraley, Anthony Misiewicz On 10-Day Injured List

By TC Zencka | August 28, 2021 at 2:38pm CDT

The Mariners made a handful of roster moves today. They placed Jake Fraley on the 10-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation. Anthony Misiewicz was also placed on the injured list because of a left forearm strain.

Fraley has made headway this season in making himself a big league outfielder, slashing .213/.359/.388 in 220 plate appearances, making his season thus far worth 1.5 rWAR. Misiewicz, meanwhile, has made 54 appearances covering 46 1/3 innings. He has a 4.08 ERA/3.32 FIP, 24.1 percent strikeout rate, 5.6 percent walk rate, and 44.9 percent groundball rate.

To fill their roster spots, Wyatt Mills was recalled from Triple-A, and Jimmy Yacabonis had his contract selected. To make room on the 40-man roster, Shed Long was transferred to the 60-day injured list. Long went on the injured list on July 30, so he’s very likely done for the year. Keynan Middleton was also outrighted to Triple-A Tacoma.

Yacabonis will make his first appearance in the bigs since last year when he made two appearances with the Mariners. For his career, he owns a 5.71 ERA/6.05 FIP across 104 innings, mostly with the Orioles from 2017 to 2019. The 29-year-old right-hander has been sharp in Triple-A this season, tossing 31 1/3 innings with a 1.74 ERA. He will provide the Mariners with some length out of the bullpen should they need it.

Not good for Fraley. We need him for the playoff push. Not the greatest average but he still walks at a great rate, has some pop, plays good defense and can run. Hopefully he comes back and can contribute.

Moore can step up and play LF in a pinch. He’ll be a bit of a step down from Fraley, but that’s not the biggest concern as of right now.

Too many runners left stranded lately, and there’s too much pressure on Haniger and Seager to deliever every night, because it seems like no one other than them Toro, and France are making a positive impact regularly. Far too much pressure on half of your lineup.

Can’t wait for Lewis to be back, he should absolutely make it easier for the people around him in the lineup.

Playoff push? Losing 3 in a row to KC effectively kills said push. I will happily eat my words if we do go on some sort of streak ala the Yankees, but I don’t see it happening.

Unfortunately I have to agree…glad mariners stuck to plan and fought urge to trade future away at deadline for a possible wc spot. The future is looking really good though!!

Agreed. There’s just no consistency with this team. Just when you think they’re on a roll, they drop three in a row. I’ll be happy if they can just finish above .500. Next year… playoffs!

Why not Trammell? Or Marmalejos? Two pitchers just leads you to a lineup with all 3 “Catchers” in the lineup and our utility player starting in LF.

They just subtracted a bat from the lineup in a time when out bats have been struggling to produce as it stands. Gotta question this decision until another one is made to correct it.

Mariners used basically their entire bullpen last night against the Royals in the 12 inning game since Gilbert only went 4 innings. It was for depth in the bullpen.

I get that. But now we have what, Bauers on the bench? Seager is nursing a tight back and shouldn’t play. One healthy dude on the bench doesn’t sit well with me.

        Am I forgetting someone?

Marmo, Hmm? Good question. Marmolejos has been the best hitter in the entire PCL, he has absolutely raked this year. The only thing that makes sense to me is…..they must not feel comfortable with his defense in the OF at the Major League level

Trammell’s absence is a little more obvious- he has a .119 BA w a .196 OBA over the last 15 games. 5 Hits in 42 AB’s? We already have a CF with those types of numbers! We don’t need another OF who will chase off speed pitches and swing for the fences in every AB! Haha

I agree. They started the game with two guys on the bench, and one of them wasn’t 100% and was supposed to be resting. Meanwhile, Marmolejos is hitting .360 with an OPS of 1.152 and leading his league in RBIs. What more does a guy have to do?

I expect they’ll send a reliever down in the next day or so and bring him up.

Is Marmolejos on the 40-man roster? I tend to think not, which might be why they didn’t call him up. They’d have to clear a spot for him.
