I would really love it if Seattle could walk away with both Semien and Bryant. Itd be a lot cheaper than trading for a player like JRam.

Id love Bryant and Scherzer. In Seattle. I think the time is right for front loaded deals while the rest of team is on low deals or arbitration deals. Just my opinion.

Even though I currently live in Chicago, would gladly rent a luxury limo to get him there……with a wet-bar…

Didi was awful in 2021. He had no balance at SS, and was off-kilter at the plate.

He also contracted gout in 2021.

I had gout in 2021. It’s hardly an old persons disease. It’s a form of arthritis that typically occurs in joints, usually around the big toe(s). Its cause is urate crystals that accumulate in the joint(s). That can come from a side effect of medications; eating a lot of red meat, fish, and/or drinking beverages made with fructose – among other things.

The big toe is what humans depend on for balance. I (and people I know) have broken a number of the other 8 toes, and never missed a beat. Didi was also living with physical issues that may have made him the top candidate in MLB to die should he have contacted COVID. It may have had him taking preventative medications that built up the urate acids. For sure it weighed on him mentally.

I met a woman yesterday. We were talking about medical issues (she was wearing a cast as bones in her foot and ankle were broken in an accident). I mentioned gout. She immediately said her husband had died an awful, painful death due to cancer – but he told her that the pain of having gout was worse.

I’d suggest that slowly the urate acids Didi had will be neutralized in the offseason. I look for him to be back to normal physically in 2022. If the Phillies are dumb enough to trade him, someone is going to have a very good major league SS in 2022.

While gouty arthritis can be treated my meds and new medications are always being developed to be more effective, the disease is typically a chronic one. The symptoms will be treated but the disease will usually persist with recurrent episodes.

I’ve had gout about 5-6 times and it’s right up there with the worst pain I’ve ever had, honestly excruciating.

What contract length will Scherzer get? He’s going to be 37/38 next season. Maybe a two year deal plus a third year option? I can’t imagine a team goes beyond 3 guarenteed years, which would take him into his 40’s. Not saying he couldn’t be effective when he’s 40-42, but how many teams would take that risk?

      3/$110M is my guess

I was surprised Steve Adams listed Scherzer when the question was about the top earning free agents. Scherzer is going to be up there but it seems like Freddie Freeman will earn much more. Correa and and Corey Seager will earn the most but Freeman has to be no lower than #3. Adams didn’t even mention him.

Wasn’t the question who will dominate the headlines? If Freddie quietly re-signs with the Braves the week after the WS, he won’t dominate the headlines for more than a day or two.

The very most I see a team going is three years+4th year option.

Depends on the return, of course. Lots of teams would have interest in Manea.

I’ve never thought of it before this chat but I really do like the idea of a Bellinger / Buxton / Betts defensive outfield.

No one predicted the Braves winning the World Series, no one.

Furthermore, you can keep talking all the garbage you want about the NL East.
